I was fascinated by going solo in ME3MP because for me it is the ultimate battle against the environment.

You're not supposed to be able to do it by yourself, so that's the challenge.

In all honesty, in ME3MP I was not very good at it (1hr 40 for my first successful gold solo)

I don't shoot particularly accurately, though my tactics are fairly reasonable.

The big problem for me with ME3MP solo was getting swarmed.

In a dungeon crawl, I'm expecting guerrilla tactics, hit and run, would be a good starting point.

A fight of attrition, flanking, trap/glyph setting, and withdrawal.

It will be interesting to see the extent to to which foes have awareness of their foe-mates being sniped.

And once they are aware of you, will they give up on the chase or will they pursue you relentlessly down.

Dealing with bosses is also going to be problematic in solo,

but should be possible if the bosses are left to last and don't run as fast as I do.

  • Will you be going solo?
  • Why is it interesting to you?
  • How do you think it could be achieved within a dungeon crawling framework?

I certainly hope solo or with just one partner is still possible.   I played many solo ME3 solo matches (bronze only).

Oh it will be possible for sure, probably on day one.  Never underestimate the play of a huge player base.  I don't like soloing in me3 mp, takes to long and invloves too much kiting which i assume would be the same in dai, kiting enemies all over the place.

Having played on platinum, I've come to appreciate that there's a realm of skill that far transcends my own. I expect that we'll be able to solo on the lowest difficulties, and some rarefied souls will be able to solo the highest after being properly equipped.

From the sounds of things, a typical DA MP match is longer than its Mass Effect equivalent though.

I expect that for demons, you'll have to deal with ambushes. Also, the maps are creates such that if you don't have one of every class, you'll miss out on loot and gold.

I'm sure it'll be possible, but grinding down the hitpoints will probably be decidedly tedious.  They'll be balanced for the DPS of a group, after all - and you'll likely be missing comboes and stuff.

I may have a go at going solo (my efforts in ME3 never got beyond bronze solo), but if you are right and this acts more like a Dungeon crawler then it would lend itself much more to solo playing as their would be a much greater variety of tactics available to a player.

My worry is that if I encounter one of these boss monsters it could take a while to chip away at its health without a couple of friends. (I doubt the'll be cobra missiles in this MP)

It will be interesting to know, reading this GameSpot commentary:

"When one player smashes a vase filled with gold or opens up a glimmering treasure chest, every other player on the team will instantly receive their share of the loot."

whether the loot distributed to the party remains the same amount (in total) when there are less players?

Solo player, all the loot perhaps?

I will more than likely solo more than co-op.

I am intrigued by the thought as well.

Is it possible to go solo in DAMP? Or are the levels designed to go in a team of 4 with different classes?

It is designed for multiple classes.  In ME MP you had classes that could create their own biotic and tech combos.  But in DA, the combos are based on class (warrior, rogue, mage) so those will be impossible (cross-class-combos).  So you would have to be very powerful.  I would be mad if smaller groups still didn't get more rewards though. On top of that supposedly the enemies will "get stronger" with fewer players.  I hope that means it will be more difficult because there are fewer players, not literally that enemies will become stronger.

I'll probably go solo just to get the feel for the maps and classes. That's how I did it in ME3's MP.

Clearly (and this has been commented upon by BioWare), the DAMP is designed for a balanced party of 4.

You can go in 4 Rogues, or try solo.

Both will have their challenges, solo the most of all I suspect.

I think you're going to need great skills, great gear and great tactics to make up for the lack of numbers.

I think most of my ME3 MP was solo, but I'll take my chances on the unknown public this time. Lag issues can make things tougher than they need to be.

When I've got a few gear upgrades I'll try me luck at solos though.

Hopefully they've got the disconnect issues that plagued ME3 ironed out this time. Nothing worse then a server disconnect during a gold solo 1 minute out from extraction.

Well I guess there was also the lost credits when opening the store, that's always fun as well.

You've gotten a disconnect during a solo run?

I don't think that's ever happened to me. I usually only got disconnect when I was playing at 4 am and my connection with a host in Russia or New Zealand decided it was bed time.

50% of the time I got disconnected but that's because my internet connection is fickle.

Yes. I've found server disconnects all too common. Just gotta hope the new engine will will fix those issues. Better net code perhaps.

If Solo is part of a relevant Challenge as it is in ME3MP, I will do it or at least try to get it done, whenever I find my skills meet what is required for the task.
But if there is absolutely no reward other than personal gratification, I won't be doing it anytime soon.
I am pretty social... not much of a Lone Wolf player.

I will be one of those that solo.  Soloing is about learning the mechanics of the game and outplaying them.  You could pick certain maps on ME3 and just run in a big circle killing the first few enemies that showed up and then run again rinse and repeat. There is no game that is "hard" there are just games you don't understand the mechanics and intricate details of yet.

As far as soloing in DA: I it might be a pain in the ass to solo with "bosses"  depending on how much health they have and how long it takes it may be something thats not worth it...and then if you make a mistake and die? not good.  Do we even get something equivalent to a medigel?

You're going to have to go in there in the right mindset, and then know their attack patterns and movements....if it truly is random then equiping what the bosses are weak to and stuff will be a pain unless you can carry sets of armor/weapons in there with you. And even then you are missing out on the class specific rooms.  It looks as it is something that is discouraged....and something that once you do a few times you will see its better to co op and just stop.

I realize that they could have bosses that were only vulnerable to cross-class combinations.

I didn't even think about that.  I would be impressed if that was in the game maybe not as a constant, but on a few certain bosses/situations....even if only during some weekend events or something.

I get the impression it will be MUCH harder to solo DAMP than it was to solo MEMP. DA (DAMP included) focues on cross-play combos, which cannot be done without another player (clearly). Aiming, chance to hit, defense, etc is all done by a virtual dice roll. The skill in DA is in the combos.

The only way I think you could solo this is to kite like a mofo. Even if they had the most badass build, that would end up getting 'balanced' to keep it in line with the other classes when it is used in a full party situation.

I would like it if difficulty was more... flexible. Like Borderlands' is. Depending on how many players are in the match, enemy health/damage is modified. (Except Raid bosses, which are always at full-party difficulty.)

The highest level I was able to solo in ME3 MP was silver and I was pretty slow, I don't think I even tried gold. I mostly would solo when friends weren't available and I was frustrated with randoms behaving like jerks. It was pretty fun, an excellent adrenaline rush. I will most likely try it in DAMP too.
