The advisors apparently have an equal word budget to the companions even if they aren't companions.
Even if that is true that would make one companion male pan and other bi, which I doubt they will do. Since there is no companion straight unless it is Cassandra, it makes more sense to have at least one companion male straight.
The problem here is that with Cullen straight and Josephine bi, the whole npcs vs companion romance is even more unbalance. NPCs are cool and all but companions are going to be far superior almost every turn because they are in your party and there is a lot more content there.
And Gaider did said that there was a possibility that one of the romances would have only one option available, depending of your character race and sexuality, most people think it was Varric, to me it is Solas. Of course it is all speculation I would like for them to be all bi and not race gated but people seem to hate that, so I guess now you have characters with more diversity.
I think in the end is for the better. At this point I am happy with the cast, the only thing I still do not like is the lack of female presence on the companion, hope to see a change in the future.
