Solas confirmed as a romance (elf only)

Not to offend anyone but this thread is starting to get a creepy/rapey vibe here talking about this decision. Like, the characters not worth as much if they can't be fucked, and how people don't care about the character having a personal preference, whether the character possess consent or not to the decision, they just want to be allowed to **** them and are angered when they can't.
What also compounds the issue is the attempted rationale of this in that solas having a personal preference that won't lead to him ****** you, is somehow not only wrong, but a mistake. He's a mistake because he doesn't want to **** you. And that it isn't fair because despite having other characters willing to give consent, solas doesn't, and therefore he's wrong for not doing so.
It's all just a bit too...controlling for my personal comfort zone.

I don't care if it's with Solas, or Blackwall, or Varric, or it had been Cullen, or another main character. It has nothing to do with a specific character. If Blackwall is gay, then I'll say I was absolutely wrong about Bioware's approach to gay men, but the situation is unfair to lesbians and straight men. You can try to make it a personal attack, but it's not personal. Three isn't equal to two. You can't argue with clear cut numbers. Less isn't equal, that's as simple as it can be.
But why does it matter?
The player themselves has access to every romance. They have access to at least two straight romances and at least two gay romances with either gender they pick.
If this is the situation, what does the options available to the players avatar have to do with the player themselves and their own sexuality?
I know some straight men who only ever play as female characters and play female/female romances. Does that mean the game is also being "unfair" to them?

I just don't understand why elves are being favoured with an extra romance option (Only female one's at that)
I mean whats the point? It will only be avaliable to a very small percentage of players
No way I'm going to roll a female Elf just for Solas (maybe I would have made a Male Elf)
They said from the beginning that these types of decisions had more to do with story and what makes sense for the characters than whatever ideas of "equality" or "fairness" people here seem to have.

Bald is awesome,Solas is perfect the way he is.
Besides, fenris used up all the awesome hair quota with his final fantasy look.

Adding consistently less options for one demographic leads to less representation and less overall chance for enjoyment, on average. Yes, some people don't mind playing other sexualities, but some would like the opportunity to play a character with their same sexuality and it's disheartening when your sexuality specifically is always the one with fewer chances to do that.

If his issue about dwarves was the whole "heathen." comment that would apply to dalish elves as much as dwarves.
@Ryzaki
Yeah I said Cullen could be Racegated to Humans/Elves or just Humans I wont argue that the Dalish are Heathens but as I said he has shown an attraction to both Humans/Elves in Origins and B-Ware has said the RGating will be story related.
I can't see two straight male options being race gated. As I said in a previous post, I think its more likely Cass or the unknown LI will be race gated, as Josephine & Iron Bull are for everyone and it's unlikely that the only gay LIs will also be race gated.
@phantomrachie
Why do you think Cassandra will be RGated I am curious is it the whole Hand of the Divine thing or her being Nevarran Royalty/Nobility.

He showed an attraction to a city elf. If he's gated for a story reason that means it's not as simple as physical attraction and a dalish elf is as liable to be gated from him in that case as a dwarf is.

Actually, now that you mention it. Didn't Cullen only show romantic interests in a human mage in origins. Which may indicate that hes race gated as only human.
Neria Surana (Female Elf mage) also gets the same dialogue, so no, he's not gated by race.
As for Solas, it fits with the elven culture. Anyone remember Soris? In the City Elf Origin, he was the Warden's cousin. If you remember, he eventually married a human woman. The alienage raised quite a bit of rukus abnout it (enough that I doubt that Soris could go back there). His reaction: He got the woman pregnant several times.
Solas is at least consistent to his people.
As far as the last LI, I'm betting on Vivienne. Several reasons: 1, The devs released more pics of her than anyone else....2, Whenever she and the male inquisitor are in the same pic, she's looking at him....3, she likes having power, and atm the Inquisitor will have the greatest amount.... I could go on, but I think you get the idea.
Also, at best, I think she'll be the reverse of Lelianna in Origins. Preffers males, but could be convinced to be with a woman (lelianna was all over a female warden unless you locked her out, but a male had to work for it).
Just my thoughts. Take it as you wish.

But why should Bioware games in particular have to provide said demographic with the same number of choices when they are neither their primary demographic or their largest playerbase, and the feature in question is only an incredibly small aspect of their games?
When I watch shows aimed at a younger audience they often include jokes that are aimed at older viewers, but while I enjoy these I know that the show is still aimed primarily at younger viewers, and have to adjust my expectations accordingly.
It's the same thing with Bioware games. I appreciate the same-gender romance content (and the opposite gender romance content), but also appreciate that these are not the primary focus of the game and that I do not reside within the largest playerbase and audience of the game (straight men, and to a similar extend straight women).
When I want a show that caters to my age I watch a show aimed at my age group, and when I want a game that caters to my desire to experience same-gender romance content I play a game designed around same-gender romance content. Admittedly their aren't anywhere near enough, particularly in the west, but It makes more sense to make up the lack of same gender romance content in games designed for it and targeted to people who want it than to shove all of it into mainstream games where only a fraction of the playerbase are interested in said content.

Good point, the LGBT community should be happy with whatever scraps drops of the plate of straight privilege. /sarcasm
First I'm accused by someone of being guided by "straight white privilage", and now you are shoving words I have never said nor implied down my throat.
And there's this "straight privilage" again. Are the only thing that you gay people can do in a discussion is throw various accusations branching from "straight privilage" to downright homophobia at a first sign that someone disagrees with you?
I would still like you to tell me how knowing that a man likes a woman definitely 100% makes him straight.
It doesn't. But in Awekening he clearly "prefers" women, while in DA2 he prefers man (in the same way, that DA:O Leliana prefers women).
And it's not implied in ANY way that he might be bisexual. If it was, I wouldn't have a problem with that. It doesn't bother me, that Zevran is hitting on male Hawke in DA2, because that's part of his character.
I don't agree for example Leliana doesn't represent Andrastians, infact her some of her beliefs are against of the the principles of Chantry (something that she admit)
She doesn't agree with everything that Chantry stands for, but she still believes in the Maker and worships Andraste.
Garrus is not your typical Turian in Mass Effect either - but he does represent Turians nonetheless.

I don't think she will be based on her personality or history but based on what we know about the other LIs.
I don't think Cullen will be race gated because Solas is and to have two straight male LIs as race gated seems a bit much. We know that Josephine and Iron Bull are open to everyone.I doubt Sera or Dorian will be race gated because they are the only gay romances we have so far.
That leaves either Cass or the unknown LI as the second race gated romance.

I think its because we now have a race gated romance that is also gender gated for females only, many don't see Sera being gated now since race gating two female only options would a little strange especially with both being elves so many are theorizing that the next one could be a male only romance or may be the unknown one.

Yes I agree which is why I said he could be also be RGated to Humans only. In my opinion B-Ware could just tell us and stop tormenting us. I guess we will just have to wait and see who the other one is.

I thought Cullen would be gated also but now that Solas is race gated plus straight I don't think having two straight males double gated would be a pretty sight especially cause of how many Cullen fans there are they would riot lol

You can totally disagree with me, I've no issue with that. I was simply paraphrasing your statement, admittedly I was a bit dramatic to make a point .
When you say 'you have two LIs now, so what are you complaining about?'
You are saying that people should be satisfied with what they are given and not to ask for equality.
If you didn't mean that, then perhaps you should re-think how you phrase things.
It doesn't. But in Awekening he clearly "prefers" women, while in DA2 he prefers man (in the same way, that DA:O Leliana prefers women).

I see no evidence that he prefered men in DA2. He speaks about one lover, that doesn't indicate his preference, it indicates that he once had a male lover.
