According to the elves, humans, and dalish, yes it does.
Yes, I know of that tweet, and I don't buy what he said for a nanosecond.
Same here, a game developer isn't going to admit anything they haven't officially confirmed yet unless they slip up, so when I read that I was like "BS PR talk"
I think I just had an epiphany. They wouldn't wait this long to announce the last two LIs if the last two LIs weren't both race gated. It stands to reason. They're waiting because they know that the race-gated LIs will enrage the most amount of people. So they're biding their time. So I highly doubt they'd announce someone like Cass as a romance option, and then announce later down the line that she's race-gated. That would be totally bait and switch. Not to mention kind of....dumb.
I get the feeling your a Cassandra Fan I am sort of a fan but I am preparing myself for dissapointment because as much as I like Cassandra she is not my Amber Rose "Aveline" I hope her Romance is good but I am worried.
Bioware has always made it pretty clear to me that they personally consider the LGBT audience an important part of their demographic. I've never seen anything from them to suggest that they don't consider my demographic to be a part of their whole target audience. There's no reason that a game has to be for only straight people, or gay people, or men, or women, or just one specific race. That's not the type of game I'm hoping to see made, myself. A piece of media can market to multiple demographics at once and, often times, you get bleed over in demographics that want to experience more than one option in multiple playthroughs. There's no real reason why Bioware needs to change it's audience to offer options equally to all genders and sexualities. They've never made any statements suggesting that their primary target audience is straight, white, males, or whatever is assumed to be the "majority". In fact, they've made it pretty clear that they actually favor an inclusive approach and that they realize they make mistakes on that at times and try to improve. I'm just hoping they reach a goal that many of their own staff have expressed support for.
There's obviously nothing to suggest Bioware has to offer an equal amount of options to everyone. They clearly could only offer 3-4 straight, white women as LIs, for example. It's not like that would be an uncommon choice for a developer. Bioware has said themselves, though, that it isn't the approach they favor. I don't see a reason to expect Bioware to continue a stance on inequality when their own staff says here on the BSN and in multiple panels that they see themselves as inclusive and value their audience members from many demographics besides just what's considered the majority.
Inclusivity isn't really about romance options though, It's about representation. Having non-straight characters and a world and story that isn't threatening, insulting or condescending to a certain demographic. Bioware can be inclusive without having to have the exact same number of romance options. It would be nice if they could, but not doing so isn't "unfair" to anyone.

Yeah it's probably close to 90% Vivienne as last LI and is race gated, though I'm not going to speculate sexuality and what is race gated out of far too much bias to offer anything worth saying (she's totally going to be Bi and race gated against Dwarves only, honest!).

100% pure blooded Cass fan, I am indeed.

I think some of the grumpiness definitely has to do with history. With the exception of DA2 where equality existed by necessity of number (and if you think about Seb, the numbers actually weren't equal), there hasn't been any game ever (with the exception of some niche LGBT games) where there were an equal number of romantic interests for straight and gay characters
Skyrim
Definitely a paragon for all games to strive towards in character interactions and romance, but there it is
Yeesss.
Make sure you grab some double chocolate chip for me
Nah they do the bait and switch alot. THey announced Cullen and Cass first then announced their sexualities after Sera and Dorian.
But but...*hastily bites fingernails* I wanna know if I can get my lovely amazonian lady to romance a dude shorter than her T_T tis all I ask.
Cassandra + Cadash=Epicness
I'm happy that there's more option for female gamers
. *ahem* I'm male actually. So is the male romance options lesser now?
If Solas is any indicatation the race gating might be quite restrictive (e.g. human only).
lalala I can't hear you, no she won't, no she won't. But, in all seriousness, I mean that's a possibility and people have been calling that for a long time, but it doesn't have to be symmetrical with Solas, so while it might be male human it could just as easily be bi, gay or blocking any number of races.

male straight gamer here and I have been happy ever since Sera was named a female only option lol

Turns out either Cassandra or Cullen is race gated to human only and you don't find out until you've "Locked-in" the "romance".

Bioware doesn't really represent many non-straight characters outside of romances, and doing so would be a great improvement, but I believe both situations are facets of inclusivity. Offering equal romances and representing non-straight characters outside of the LIs and the party are both parts of offering both equal representation and equal opportunities for enjoying all the features to the player.

You take that back we Dwarves will have our revenge Brontos and Nugs Attack. ![]()
Gay Blackwall and bi Vivienne (with only Vivi being the romance option). That wouldn't be too bad.

Who would be race gated though?
I hope Cassandra isn't, and still seriously doubt she is, in all honesty.

I'll just stand on a ladder and suddenly nothing they can do. I mean I assume the fact that Varric is the only Dwarf that has shown any skill with a ranged weapon is canon, certainly Dwarves can't use bows, right?

Vivi since Blackwall isn't a romance option. I also wouldn't mind Cullen being race gated against elves. (not Qunari. Please not qunari).
Many right now would throw that tweet at you that Gaider posted but luckily I am one of those people who thinks what he said was pure PR talk, plus when he said what he did he said "funny how people say *I* said last 2 are the race gated ones, funny since thats not true" this isn't word for word but its the gist of it, to me he was just saying he never said that so its untrue, but like you I said days ago in another thread that the last two being race gated would make sense why they are taking so long
Frankly, that's also how I've always interpreted it.

It was heavily implied/ outright said (depending on interpretation) that only one of the remaining LI's would be race gated though, and we now know that Solas is.
Which has really thrown me off, because I was almost certain Vivienne would be...

Might've been a troll? I'm hoping it was a troll. But Vivi ungated and Cullen only gated towards elves would be perfect for me.

They'll find a way to get you,a ladder won't stop a determined dwarf.

Great now I have that "why don't I give you a ladder so you'll get off my back." playing in my head on repeat. Lovely.
