Got it. Blackwall is the last romance and is beard-sexual. So no elves or women. Balances out Solas perfectly.

Boy, there's a lot of hand-wringing in this thread.

I imagine Vivienne will be the last gated LI and she'll be gated to humans. And males, for the sake of fairness. Why give humans and elves an extra option? Likely because those are the most popular race choices among male and female players. Plus, story reasons.

My first impression on Solas was not that good. Based on his appearance. Well i definitely do not know of his personality. But big part of a character is their appearances and outlook that makes me wanted to know more about him/her. I'm not sure how much female gamers love about Solas and interested in romancing him. If he isn't a popular romance compared to say Cullen, then having him as a romance options is wasted.

He's generated more discussion on the forums than any companion beside Cullen, and a good deal of that is from women who wanted him to be an LI (and men who wanted him to be an LI). A lot of us were interested in romancing him with non-elves or male Inquisitors, but the desire is definitely there for him to be a romance. He has an interesting hook in the story, a VA with a great voice, and devs have dropped a ton of hints that he's a fascinating character. So I don't think he'll be wasted simply because he doesn't have the fanbase Cullen does.

It's time somebody brings the two most important recent complaints on this forum together:

 

It's totally the Multiplayer fault that Solas is both gender- and race-gated! And it shows that Bioware simply doesn't care about us players and EA just wants to make money (how dare they?)!!! They tell us now something of story-reasons, but surely they will unlock the race- and gender-gates for Solas through micro-transactions or MP. 

My female qunari will be able to sleep with Solas only after I have successfully beaten the Multiplayer Dungeon on the highest difficulty level, and I need to spend thousands of dollars for that, or grind endlessly!

But that's the last straw! PREORDER CACNELED!

Not sure if anyone else has brought this up (I've tried to follow this thread but people have a lot of feelings, so I've missed some stuff), but maybe the race-gate isn't because of breeding whatever, but because within the story, Solas has some connection to the Lavellan clan? So if you're playing a male elf, you have a backstory with Solas somehow - he's a good friend and your PC has a closer relationship with Solas, maybe there are conversations you have about your backstory with him. And if you play as a female elf, you were friends before (or perhaps romantically interested), and as the Inquisition continues, you and Solas become closer as a result of your past history.

 

That would be one story-based reason I can see for Solas being race-gated that I think would be pretty cool.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks that the last two LI's have to have the same sexuality.

It could be Blackwall, who could be bi or gay (unlikely to be a third straight guy option) or it could be Vivienne, who could be straight, bi, or gay. I think they are all equally likely at this point. Especially since Solas being straight means that's there no mathematical way for everyone to get the same number of options anyway.

If Vivienne is straight then there'll be five li's for men and five for women

Solas has A LOT of female fans, myself being one, that was all due to his intriguing personality that came with his official reveal.  From what I can tell, he'll be very popular among women.

I hope Viv will be bi, because I want as many people to have options as possible, but it really does drive home how gay men have always been Bioware's lowest priority and continue to be. 

 

Yeah, I don't know... I mean, I think they're doing such a great job with inclusion, but it's still not perfect, though... I love how they have created Dorian, and IB and all but... it's kinda tiring when it's always the same group the one that gets less...

 

They did warn us that we wouldn't have exactly the same options, but, again, has it always have to be the same group the one who is affected? Hmm, maybe we're wrong and we'll be surprised with Blackwall, which I doubt...

The Dalish disagree. They don't consider CEs to be oroepre elves - not without reeducation. CEs who want an Andrastian nation would be excluded.

 

Some Dalish would disagree, just as some city elves think that any elves who leave the Alienage are throwing away what makes them elven, to the point of calling them "flat ears". Don't make the mistake of confusing the few for the entirety.

Sure, just he's stated as being open-minded as well as his romance being plot-relevant or something, so. I got from that, that there might be something like that going on and an actual romance could progress from that. It's pretty bizarre and trying to come up with plot reasons for a companion only romancing their own race and opposite gender from a plot perspective?

Mark Darrah said it made "super story sense" within the narrative, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's something overly complicated. It could be something rather simple.
