So I've recently started to play ME3 again and there seem to be quite a few new names around. Which is good.

What is bad about it is that those players don't seem to have a grasp on how ME3 MP actually works. Every other host runs ME3 with 60+ fps. Yeah I get it, you've got a new computer and need to show off... but enable V-Sync please.

This is hell. Seriously, I like a challenge but dying instantly because three Marauders spawned in LOS of me stops being funny after the 10th time. And then you get these wonderful situations like a wave 10 hack on Giant center. Got me a shiny new golden revival medal, yay.

Running around a corner now carries a 75% chance to die after the first step if there is more than one enemy. They will shoot you before you can stagger them, even with instant powers like Dark Channel or Overload.

It is common knowledge here in the forums that enemy AI/accuracy is linked to the frame rate. Too bad most players don't read the forums. And many of them don't even notice the problem because they are playing Juggernauts.

This is starting to ruin my fun. All I want is to join a PUG, do a map or two and then move on. I didn't sign up for deadly mook squads which spawn with their backs to you, shoot you and then turn around to rush you, while shooting some more. Oh, and they throw grenades every 5 seconds or so. Nemesis become seriously dangerous because now they fire more often. If there are 2 of them sniping at you, then you're in trouble. I won't even mention Phantoms. Because f%#§ Phantoms on high fps.

Some classes like the Fury can't be used for AF/Throw biotic detonations anymore because you are dead before you get there.

Yeah, you -could- play ME3 on 120 fps. If you are prepared for and used to it, then it takes just a bit longer to finish each wave. Unless you get stuck on cover or can't dodge because someone just had to die in front of you or any other fun consequences of The One Button. I've got a keyboard with more than a hundred keys, please allow me to use them (but that's a rant for another day).

In the end I will have to host myself to avoid this. Rushing into spawns is suicide otherwise. I'm a fairly good player but I can't compete with the reaction time of a machine.

tl,dr: Don't run ME3 on high fps (especially not as host), it screws with the balance and probably kills your entire team.

Actually it's capped at 60 Fps unless you hack it.

I hate 60+ FPS hosts. Kills the fun for me. 60+ FPS, coupled with off-host means hide behind a cover all day and turn every class into a weapon specialist - makes me want to alt+F4.

Doesn't the difficulty also determined by how good the host's connection is too? If they're running 60+ FPS, and have crap internet, doesn't that make the enemy even more of an a**?

I think I rather hate how the games engine is tied to frames. Hopefully Frostbite 3 in the next iteration is less ass and more awesome. For everyone.

The framerate is capped by default, just check bioengine.ini:

smoothframerate=True

maxsmoothedframerate=62
minsmoothedframerate=22

I think OP's problems are most likely caused by lag, since few players would mess with the above values.

I play at the default framerate and have not modded anything, and playing on my host is still harder than playing off host against all factions and Reapers especially are not a walk in the park anymore, Cerberus are more agile and deadly, Geth seem to never miss and Collectors are more aggressive and the games are filled with pug revive chains. Gold on my supercomputer PC is like the single faction Platinum that we never had.

I played some games this week on hosts who I'd guess had frame rate issues. Geth rockets missing, enemies walking past, all kinds of stuff. Gold felt like a walk though silver. Is that what console is like?

I've known about the tie between fps and difficulty since this, or maybe even before. Are you saying that PC players intentionally lower their fps?

If so, that explains why pugs die so damn often on my host. Fraps says I get a steady 60 fps  B)   I kinda got used to the added difficulty, which was shockingly more difficult, having started on 360.

60fps off-host is absolutely fine ...

60fps off-host with a really sh*tty connection to the host, not so much.

AI target acquisition depends on the host's frame rate. When the delay caused by lag is greater than the time it takes the AI to target you things get messy quickly.

60fps is perfectly fine even when mildly lagging. At 120+fps the smallest amount of lag will be a deal breaker.

I thought the frame rate was capped, but I'm glad to see that confirmed in this thread.  My new computer arrived the other day, so I was wondering if suddenly having a gaming worthy machine would cause a significant jump in ME3MP difficulty (my current one can do about 40 FPS without issues.  Which is good for a laptop, especially considering when I bought it...but obviously not ideal).

Also, I can't say I've noticed offhost framerate issues.  I've played on FTL's host a couple of times, and other people who also use 60+ FPS settings, and while a squishy class is sometimes a little squishier, it's never been so bad that the game has been unplayable.  I suspect either the OP has been very unlucky and run into people showing off their 120+ FPS monsters, or has been having lag issues - which I think have been more of an issue due to less people playing.  I know I've had lag so bad that it's only when I'm healthgated I actually even see the enemy...those games it's just better to quit straight out of.

I honestly have no idea what's going on here. I did a few solos with 120 fps to see the difference (and yes, I had to change some entries in the ini file) and it wasn't as bad as what I experienced with PUGs. I guess it's a combination of people getting better hardware but still having a laggy connection.

What surprised me was that ME3 always runs at 60fps. For some reason I believed V-Sync would lower that to 30. I was wrong.

Oh well. I guess I am getting slow and confused in my old age. Thanks for listening to my rant though. :)

But... but... my banner already says Best of the Best. :(

(Not that I ever used it.)

Seriously, I wouldn't care about the frame rate if Bioware hadn't tied enemy AI to it.

If I start uncotrollably dying with Krogan sentinel, something is wrong with frame rate on the host, either below 20 or over 90+. Lag usually has little impact except that grenades don't blow up. Otherwise, it is quite hard to tell the difference if lag is over 200 msec.

Do you really see the difference? I cannot tell 75 from 120 fps, it is all the same for me visually. I know technical cap is around 180 fps due to monitor response time that is at about 5 msec minimum.
