Man I knew it Cullen is the last RGated Romance Human & Elves female only.

And Blackwall being a straight female option surprised me down right shocked me infact.

 Damn Vivienne was so alluring it sucks all kinds of A** that we are not getting a female Mage Option.

There went one of my WS right out the window damn.

My final thought on the Romances are that I am honestly dissapointed seriously a Straight Male and a Female Gay Inquisitor have only one option that can accompany them Cass & Sera w here the other orientations have 3 an 2 respectively and that sucks A**.

First no Dwarven LI Options and now this seriously B-Ware you are tearing me apart. :(

Oh wow, colour me shocked.

On the one hand - YAY! Blackwall romance! :D (Kinda surprised he isn't available to both genders, though.)
.

On the other hand - no Vivienne! :( What a shame, she sounds like a character who would've been interesting to romance. I was kinda already mentally prepared that she'd be the final romance and thought about romancing her with a male Inquisitor later on.

So that's 3 male and 2 female options for the female elf Inquisitor (2 and 2 for humans), and 2 male and 2 female options for the male Inquisitor. Surprised that fem!Inquisitors have the biggest romance pool altogether, but then again female romances are also the only ones which are race-gated, so maybe that's supposed to balance it out.

EDIT: No, that's 4 possible male LIs for the female elf Inquisitor and 3 for humans, since I completely forgot about Bull being a romance option for female Inquisitors as well. Let this be a testament to the fact that I should not be allowed to the Internetz before my morning coffee.

It seems that romance is heavily biased favouring female gamers to me? I'm not complaining female gamers getting so much more options, in fact i'm happy they get so many but why male so little? Why so bias Bioware? This is very disappointing. First the limited abilities and second the romance options.

It seems Bioware has fallen victim to the Social Justice Warriors claiming all games are sexist and gone overboard trying to prove that they aren't.  I don't mind playing a female protagonist or a male protagonist but strangely enough I want the gender of my romance to be the gender I am actually attracted to.  I was disappointed enough that the companions were split 3 women 5 men but the LI's make this even worse.  Only 2 female romance options for either a male protagonist or a female protagonist and even then only 1 you can take with you.  As a whole the female options seem very unappealing, again it looks like Bioware are trying to avoid characters that are stereotypically attractive (the stereotypes exist for a reason guys).  Seeing Morrigan and Lelianna in the game will just remind me how well they once did it.

That's because females give way more of a **** about this romance crap than guys, now before I get the usual "but I'm a guy/girl and..." I realise there are exceptions  to the rule but in general, almost everybody I see obsessed or really into romancing people in games is female. I think most guys are happy to take it or leave it either way, or more realistically would take the Geralt approach to romance given the choice.

If you are a straight male gamer really into romances then unlucky in getting the shaft from Bioware for this game, you have really drawn the short straw with choices, with Morrigan and Leliana locked off for various reasons the only half decent looking female in the game, raccoon makeup and mop hair aside, is Sera and she's another one for the ladies.

Don't you know that good looking women = boring and generic on this site. You're allowed to be as obnoxious and unpleasant as you want if a woman is deemed stereotypically attractive but dare mention certain characters might look a bit manish and all hell breaks loose.

If it makes you feel any better, per Laidlaw's post the original romances were Cassandra, Blackwall, Josephine, Iron Bull, Sera and Dorian - so the lineup was a bit more equal. Apparently the extra development time gate them enough time to add Cullen and Solas, but they are "more limited in scope, largely for reasons directly related to their story arcs" - although they apparently are "otherwise the equal of the other options".

So me thinks that the squeaky wheel might've gotten the grease this time around, at least in the case of the Cullen romance. He has a particularly... vocal... fanbase (and let me be clear: I mean no offence with that comment, just that they're very active in Twitter and the boards and so on). Of course, this might just as well not be the case and there might be other reasons for the unbalanced LI lineup.

To be fair I don't think that is just this site.

It's more prevalent on this site than most, this is the only site where I've seen an actual dev (Gaider) describe woman who could appear on magazine covers as generic. The best looking character in DA2 was Bethany and they made her our sister, it;s just the way Bioware role.

Tell you the truth I'm happy females are getting more options as I genuinely think it;s a more important aspect of gaming for them and that is in noway meant as a slight.

As i said i'm not complaning or felt unhappy because female gamers getting more romance options. I'm feeling very disappointed why they gave male gamers so much lesser?  If they are given additional time, they could have given options each to both male and female? Make it bi for all i care, at least all sexual demographics get equal treatment. This is very bias, in my opinion.

Well, that was unexpected. I was certain the last LI would be Vivienne if only because that would make an even split between male and female options.

The good news is that it now makes my choice for the Inquisitor's LI an easy one. Before the Blackwall announcement I couldn't decide between Josephine and Vivienne. So Josephine it is.

Since Leliana was incredibly unlikely to have another romance arc, the only other available female character was Vivienne. It seems that Vivienne's writer Mary Kirby felt that the character was unsuitable for a romance. It's unfortunate that Vivienne isn't a love interest, but Mary understands her character better than any of us.

Will there be more than friends relationships with non followers? Will we get dialogue of "just friends"

So the last romance option is Blackwall? Colour me surprised. I really thought it would be Vivienne geared towards straight males, and that this "romance festival" would end in an explosion of rage from some groups. Too bad, it would've been glorious.

And holy crap, 4 LIs for straight females this time. Have fun ladies. As for me, I don't care about this game's companions as much as I do about Leliana this time around. She's transformed from that creepy amateur bard, to a cool leader of assassins.

I kinda feel like this is the side-effect of having a smaller amount of female followers / advisors and having both female LI's from Origins as recurring characters. It seems likely that they just didn't have any potential female characters that would've made good romance options. I'm sure that if they'd had, say, another female Advisor besides Liliana, they probably would've at least considered it. Maybe the larger amount of male characters in general lead to bias towards potential male LI's? Wouldn't know, but that's one possibility.

Then again at least that Dwarf scout from the demo would've made a very cute romance option for male Inquisitors in my opinion... and it would've been nice to finally get a dwarven LI. Oh well, maybe in the next game...

I can imagine the conversation "We can't have all the Female companions as LI's or it will look like they are only in the game to be sex objects".  For this reason I never really expected Vivienne to be a romance option, but I lived in hope.

Hoping for Blackwall personally, though I think it'll be Vivienne. It's bad enough for BioWare when they add a handful of non Straight male LI options, I can't imagine how many new accounts would be created solely for the purpose yelling at developers would pop up if Straight M LI options were no longer the majority, or at least a tied majority.

If we speak objectively though, I think now Heterosexual Female represents the largest gaming demographic. Not sure how bloated the percentage is off respondents who only play mobile games though.

Be careful what you wish for huh?

With Mr. Laidlaw fully "breaking" romance options down for us, I'm sure that some folks will take things "bad."

In this respect, I actually feel for the devs. It must be difficult for them to attempt to offer relationships that satisfy every potential customer within their overall story content and still keep things fresh & interesting. We have to trust that each option that we are allowed plays into the big picture, and that each option that we are denied - - - resonated equally with them also. Deciding which companions made the cut could not have been EASY! I have no doubt that Bioware would love to open up every potential partner this way, but there is only so much that can be done with the disc space available

That being said, I was most surprised that Vivienne was not included as a romance option. I have yet to decide which love interest will ultimately garner my affections on the first pass, but Madame de Fer (voiced by Indira Varma) certainly had my curiosity. I'm not let down by the loss, as others also intrigue me.

I will cozy up to them all eventually!

We.l if there is a whorehouse some people can go there still, but doubt there will be one.

Overall happy with the choices and goes well with my plans, each of my chars will have an option or two.

First off , I'm a guy , like the romance parts of Bioware games , They add to the story and are a part of the appeal of Bioware games to me.

How is the only attractive female available to the ladies? Cass / Josephine are far better looking (imo) then Sera.

We aren't getting the *shaft* either , we all get 2+ romance options. Seems good to me. And last but not least , the more distance between Dragon age and the Witcher the better , We don't need Dragon age to be anything like The Witcher.
