I secretly wish that instead of doing things like racegating, you'd simply would have a harder time of romancing Solas as a non-Elf. It would be super hard but not impossible and basically you'd have to know Solas well enough to get his attention. It feels much more realistic that the PC needs to sell themselves towards the LIs, like in real life when we're looking for potential partners.

I understand that that's harder to recreate in-game but it would be cool.

So is there any word on how Not-Alistars romance is going to work? I wouldn't think a former knight captian would be romancible by a mage, and that he'd be class gated to mages.

Any word on if this is or is not the case?

They've said there is no class gating in DA:I. It was mentioned in one of the magazine interviews a while back.

I'm not too certain on how it'll work in DA:I, but if Fenris, who hates mages like nothing else, can enter a romantic relationship with a mage Hawke, then I'm pretty sure Cullen would have less of a problem with a mage Inquisitor. But of course, no guarantees and there's no class-gating either (like what Nocte above said, beating me to the post button before I could finish).

That's a shame, thought it'd be cool if they fixed that problem from DA2 but oh well.

I hope you're right and that the quality of Dorian and Sera's romance is amazing. But if we're going off ME3 it'll probably be slapped together.

Since Dorian is personal for DG I doubt he'd just "slap it together."

Actually, I was mistaken when I said magazine interview. It was the audio interview that was a done a while back with Patrick Weekes, I believe. This one;

I'm not saying that is so, but Zevran and Fenris were basically the least plot relevant characters in their specific games, so being written by Gaider doesn't mean much.

Being personal and just being written are different things.

Why would Cullen wouldn't romance a mage? He could be pretty changed from DA2, based on Gaider's response on tumblr of a fanmade dialogue between him and the PC.

Ahh, zevran may not be relevant now but: I think it's clear that he will be in the future. Fenris suffered from too much twilight influence..as did anders.

They write more than just companions, important to the overarching plot or no. Dorian in particular is personally meaningful to him though.

Well, being "personal" doesn't really imply anything about how involved in the plot he'll be. I'm sure he won't be "slapped together", or whatever the exaggerated line was. Zevran and Fenris were well written, and I'm sure Dorian will be, but they weren't particularly important to their games on a larger scale and Dorian could easily be the same and still be "personal" to David Gaider, individually.

In what sense? For their rivarly, or because of their personality?

You think Zevran will be important to later games? I'd actually thought they'd likely given up on him. I'd like to see him again, though. He's gotten the least attention in later games of all the DA:O LIs, for sure.

Indeed. Though There'll be a mention of him in DAI (in my opinion in a mission in the war table). I'd like if he's now the leader of the Crows.

Definitely, the other three are all still very important. But Zevran was barely even relevant in his own game.

Zevran and Fenris were my two favorite LIs in the DA games. I wish Fenris' recruitment mission wasn't so hidden. The only reason I pounced on his quest so fast was because I spoiled myself on how to find him.

I think companions will each be plot relevant to certain factions/areas, like Cassandra with the Seekers, Dorian with the Venatori, and Solas with the ancient elven ruins. I haven't seen any hints that certain ones will tie into the big plot. If anyone, it seems like it would be Morrigan again, who isn't a companion anyway.

It would be nice if he was, because then there would be a chance we'd see him and interact with him again should a future DA game visit Antiva.

Oh I really liked Zevran's romance. I hated him at first, but I warmed up to him later on. He's a pretty entertaining character.

Cassandra is probably the "main" LI of Inquisition. She's basically the Inquisition founder and she's so heavily featured in marketing. As for the guys, I'd guess Cullen, but it's definitely less clear and that could be way off. Iron Bull especially looks like the one that you could cut out and nothing would probably change. At any rate, we'll have to wait and see.

Because with the things he's seen and been through, 2 annulled circles, blood magic, demons, mage conspiracies taking good people he knew in two different cities, and all the crap magic and its practitioners have piled on the poor guy, I don't see him just getting over that in the short time between DA2 and Inquisition, even if the fans think he should so they can bone him.

Well, Isabela was pretty much the only marketed LI for DA 2 and you could go the whole game without recruiting her. Because of Cassandra leading the Inquisition, I have thought that she would be the one companion you can't get rid of, however. I think Vivienne is a mandatory recruit because of the party she throws you that you probably have to attend to progress the plot. We don't know if she's an LI or not though.

Evidently the writers thought fans should be able to bone him regardless, since there's no class gating. And every LI always has some personal trauma to deal with.

A mix of both..and DG even said twilight 'inspired' the DA2 romances http://social.biowar...5481839/1&lf=8

Yes, and he doesn't even get a cameo in DAI like allistar, and lelliana do.
And then there is that da2 zevran bug which never got fixed..
