I wouldn't really call S!Hawke cruel so much as hardened by life. He isn't as affected emotionally by things and isn't afraid to joke about things others take seriously, which is why he seems cruel sometimes.

Not that any of this has to do with DA:I romance. Hahahaha

Still, it does make me wonder if our Inquisitors will be able to achieve the same level of questionable humor.

To be fair, Merrill never mentioned she was into either gender(citation needed). I never romanced the poor thing. Found her cutesy charm annoying.

Merrill only mentions the Qunari (in Act III) and even then it's rather ambiguous about gender (especially as we know a woman like Tallis was among the Qunari), as she says, "You know, I sort of miss the Qunari. They didn't talk much, but they were easy on the eyes." I romanced her, and I thought she was a great character; intelligent, driven, empathetic, and funny (dry humor).

It's fantasy fiction.  Why is it a problem of 'over-representation' for a fictional world to have a higher volume of queer people than in most media?  This isn't earth.

If over-representation isn't a problem because "this isn't Earth", then neither is under-representation. The people who persistently bring it up have made this into an issue. Personally, I think people obsess too much over this and some do their cause a disservice with their intensity, but then there are story aspects I obsess over as well, so it's hardly fair to complain just because I think sexuality isn't that important..

Throwing out my Gaydar in 2006 has saved me a lot of stress.

Yeah, mine never worked anyway. Kept on giving my false positives, but let the ninjas sneak up and surprise me. Pretty soon I had to ask myself, "Why the hell did I even get this thing in the first place?!"

In 2, but that doesn't mean that the females didn't exist. Merrill could have easily been talking about the males, females, or both.

(also thanks to the person whose name I can't see at the moment since I'm on my phone for letting me in on that info)

Yes, but there were no female dwarves in Kirkwall, either, so I'm guessing that's a segregation between game mechanics and the actual storyline, which is why Merrill's line doesn't necessarily apply to men only.

Not when all soldiers are men.

It'd make sense if there wasn't any female qunari though. They were all supposed to be serving under the Arishok, I don't think there are many, (if at all), female roles in the Antaam.

He says something like "perhaps I may join you" iirc. It's been ages since I played DA2.

Right, I'm pretty sure Merrill was talking about the hulking shirtless beefcakes who used to populate the city LOL

Tallis was among the Qunari, and she wasn't technically a soldier, so that doesn't mean women were necessarily excluded from being among the shipwrecked Qunari (story wise, not in terms of game mechanics).

Really? I remember something like "it won't be necessary".

Anders says "I'd pay to see that" to that, thou.

It's different if you have a male/female Hawke.

Tallis was with the Arishok's crew at this time, and she was a kitchen hand - to be more specific, Athlok (a laborer).

I hope they keep the insane snark. But it would ruin my roleplaying. It would be so hard not to pick the sarcastic option every time xD

So... Orsino says that to a female Hawke? Dat perv.

I was talking about a male, btw, since he's on the gif.
