No one deserves to be harassed period. It's simply not acceptable. (The only time I can see it is if someone was harassing/slinging insults first and that's clearly not the case here).

You don't get someone to listen to you by doing such things. You just get them to tune you out.

I mean no this is not something that earns a "you kind of brought it on yourself." yell. Anymore than them having made more s/s romances would have them have brought the rage of straight gamers down on their head would've been anymore deserved.

I could see some trolling via the RGB cupcakes (It was a clever criticism without delving into cave man mode) so by no means am I saying the devs don't earn criticism but this is really not the way to do it. It's the best way of getting you ignored really. So no I don't feel the devs brought that on themselves. Normal criticism and snarky forum remarks? Yep. Abuse on twitter? Nope.

I already liked your comment, but since I can't like it a second time, I'm quoting it, because it needs to be stated again.

Edit: At the expense of sounding insensitive or whatnot (which is not really my goal, considering I am keenly aware of the struggle of the LGBT community, as my best friend growing up was disowned--and then practically taken in by my family--simply because he was gay) I find it amusing that before this reveal you could find plenty of arguments about "straight male gamer privilege, straight male gamer privilege" all over. Now, women get two more choices in this video game, and all of the sudden women are part of the oppressive group. I have never had anyone accuse me of being privileged because I'm a woman. Maybe because I'm white, but never because I was a woman.

It's not a democracy. BioWare are entitled to make the game they think is best. People then buy it or don't.

Yesterday your eloquent arguments moved my own thinking to believe that a full equal balance is the best option and well worth arguing on behalf of, even if BioWare are much better than most (recognising the low bar). Next time. This game has been in development nearly 4 years, I'm sure DA4's development process has already kicked off.

Whilst you say you would not insult the devs yourself, your disappointing inference that the devs may have deserved insult goes too far in my opinion. I'm sorry Nocte, the choices made in an RPG game (however much people might be looking forward to it) don't justify insulting people doing their jobs. I mostly like what you've had to say the last few days but please don't sympathise with those bashing the devs.

I really appreciate your support for equality, firstly. It makes me incredibly happy to see someone say they actually were swayed into thinking equal options is the best choice. So, thank you for that.

As for insulting the devs, I don't support people being irrationally hateful. I think that their choices (the ones that actually had a say) deserve constructive criticism. Consider that I've never had a Twitter or Tumblr account, so I think I might be a little off page with what's actually going on over there. I assumed it wasn't much worse that what's going on here, people saying they disagreed with the choice to make options unbalanced. So, I think the issue may be a misunderstanding on my part. I really don't know what's being said on Twitter right now.

Sigh.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were people pretending to be haters when in fact they're just trolls trying to make fans/others look bad.

*Nods*. I do agree with that.

It would make absolutely no sense for the same crowd itself to attack one of their own. I'm also confident that it's highly unlikely, that it's anyone here that's complaining, who are the ones doing the attacking.

I know some posters may not like other posters, "moaning" about the unfair romances. But trying to silence other posters from airing their grievences, by falsly accusing them of attacking devs is not cool.

lol@Gaider's head needing to be on pike for giving women more romances. If you can't control your anger, you should go seek professional help. Not to be rude, or unkind, or to insult, but you really need a psychiatrist to discuss your problems or built up emotions, not a game dev to take it out on.

Good luck paying for that in America, my friend.

I'm just glad they revealed Cassandra early.

I actually was just saying this very thing to a mutual friend. It really did free me from fretting these last few months and left me able to just enjoy the hype of the game without worrying about it anymore.

I'm looking forward to getting wooed because I have no real idea who the people I'm open to romance are...though, if pressed, I'm leaning towards Josephine first.

I'm just really glad that the reveals are done with and out there, now.  It has been really tiring at times.

Yep.

I can get people asking the devs can they get a turn on top of the pyramid (indeed I support this.) as well as requesting equal spreads in the next game (Support this too I do). And pointing out why to the devs this means so much to them without needing to hurl insults (or at the very least be subtle about them). Make them contemplative instead of aggravated really.

By no means does this mean you have to be sickeningly polite about it or thanking BW for what they did give you but not being a rude ass usually helps (Some people want to confuse not being rude with not being assertive though thus the lol nice guys finish last crapola).

I agree with this, it's well put and balances the issue, just wanted to say that.

Maybe we should ask them to have ZERO options in DA4 to make sure everyone is treated fairly?

There are so many options that provide similar aid, that I'm just not going to entertain the notion that the outlet for your frustrations should be a video game developer. Life's hard, theirs may be harder than most, that doesn't excuse anything that they do to make another's even more difficult.

Exactly.  And the outrage will pass and we'll move onto something else.  Then the game will come out and we'll all love it.  That's what I keep telling myself.

It definitely is a relief to know that we now know it all and can move onto discussing the content of these romances.  We'll just know which threads we should be doing that in.

I just got here, but after hearing the news, I'm actually not that cut up over it. Sure, disappointed that Blackwall's not for my male Inquisitor, but eh.

Straight Males get two options for romance.

Gay Females get two options.

Gay Males get two options.

The only group with one or two over us are Straight Females in the case of elves or humans.

I'm sorry, Straight Male players. Looks like you're with us! Let's have a drink.

EDIT; Sorry, I predicted Vivienne to be the last one. Wrong again. Like I was with Varric. It was the kiss of death. Again.

The sad thing is I have begun to consider the benefits.

Agreed. Like Gaider said, it's something that should probably be announced all at once or not at all. I'm certainly not sticking around for the LI reveals for the next Bioware game.

Honestly, I'm more thinking, "is it really worth continuing to play these games when they'll just more than likely lead to frustration and disappointment". I know you've been playing video games for many years, but I'm newer to this. I played Origins and I thought with ME3 and DA2 that we were making progress and soon things would be equal. I've only played a small handful of games, generally, and I feel like maybe I'd be happier to just.. not. I don't know if I have the same dedication some of you guys have, to keep going through this and just seeing setbacks. I look at this and think.. ****, maybe I should just go outside and do something more productive with the 50 hours+ I was going to dump into this.

I don't know, I'm not sure what to do.

Go outside and do something more productive. Sitting on a forum and complaining to the devs isn't going to create the kind of change you want. Get out into the world, and start arguing for change there. It will show up in all games (not just Biowares) if you can do that.

I work at an LGBT center. It wouldn't be a "change" for me to start supporting the community in the "real world". Not that I'm arguing against your suggestion.

Yes, I look forward to the discussions about which romance has better content than another and who is and is not a "real" romance.    I'm teasing.  ;)

I'm appreciative that they gave us the final reveals over two months out.  It gives time for some people to cope and have their moment to feel what they want to feel.  Better earlier than later, when it's close to release, and you sit down to play in a foul mood fresh.

All in all, I'm super glad to finally get my m/m Qunari dreams realized.

Then redouble your efforts. Bioware has a lot of fans, and they've given up on trying to please them all. They will do the best they can do with the resources at hand and hope it works out in the end. I would not rely on them to lead the charge.
