Basing whether your are going to buy a video game that many people have worked hard on for years over something optional and trivial as romance options is not only childish but its also frankly quite stupid. Even if I had 1 option I would still buy the game because I am a gamer and I love this series I enjoy romance in my games but there are plenty of games that are great that don't even have romance in the game or plot.

You forget that many people love these games as one of the few places that allow them to play protagonists like them. I understand anyone basing their purchase over that, since for many people it is the main draw of Bioware games. The companions were always a huge thing with Bioware. Their combat was never their greatest point, it's their story and interactivity that makes many of their games unique.

I get that, I´m just really not concerned about other gamers. I want to be personally catered. ;)

Your definitely playing the wrong game then

I'm straight female who's 22. I was looking forward playing with female qunari. My options would be human who looks like he's older than my dad and Iron Bull who is spying me for organisation that I hate and would love to see me with collar, shackles, lips sewn and tongue cut.

That concidered I don't really have options. So I will play with male character and romance Cassandra who is everything I want to be as woman.

I guess it comes in the end just luck and your preference of what you like in how much these romance reveals screwed you over ^^

Are we sure that Iron Bull hates mages though? I mean, if I recall correctly (not sure if I am), it's stated that he's actually sort of torn when it comes to the Qun, right? I wouldn't necessarily assume he hates mages before your play the game and see what goes on with him.

The Asari are kinda their promiscuous Bisexual Race, i mean there are promiscuous bisexuals, and as a Butch lesbian I know what it is like to be called the bad stereotype so i really empathize with promiscuous Bisexuals who are somehow doing their sexuality "wrong". the problem is more how the story fetishizes their promiscuity like with Isabela, Zevran, and now iron Bull. If Jack had healthier relationships, she might be a version of a promiscuous Bisexual portrayed respectfully. telling stories and including various lovers and hijinks but the narrative not really fetishizing it as vital to who she is but that is a stretch.

Do you mean because so many of them go into stripping and stuff like that? The ones we actually got in the party, Liara and Samara, were definitely not promiscuous, I think. I guess you actually can get Morinth instead and she's a creepy, sexual predator. So.. uh, there's that.

But the problem isn't with bisexuals being promiscuous, it's that media makes them almost always promiscuous. I'm not judgmental about people that like sex, I can relate. It's not that it's a problem on an individual basis. It's a problem when the bisexual characters always include the promiscuous character (Isabela, Zevran, Iron Bull.. to a lesser extent, Anders and Leliana) and the straight characters always include the "upstanding do-gooder" types (Alistair, Sebastian, Cullen, Cassandra.. maybe Blackwall). After a while it says, "these people are like this and those people are like that". It's a problem when it keeps repeating and never switching.

It's really not your place to tell people what they are or aren't allowed to consider important in a video game. It's all completely subjective. Not everyone has to value the features you do in the order you do.

Why is that objectively better or worse than buying a game for any other reason? People like Bioware games for different reasons. Nobody's is "better".

I won't judge anyone for buying it for whatever reason they want, but it is puzzling because romances are just a small percentage of the overall content and they are most certainly not the focus of the game.

It's not so much about any specific reason for buying the game being objectively "better" or not, but some of them just come across as a bit unreasonable due to the nature of the game in question, which usually triggers the "wtf" reactions.

But again, it's their money so do whatever they want I guess.

Wow...seriously man ? If you don't like Cass that's fine. But calling her 'Butch' is incredibly offensive.

No it's not. She is butch. The term butch is not synonymous with being ugly, but as I've said before on here, that's what it has come to mean because of heteronormativity.

But if you don´t like butch short haired warrior women (like me), then your options are limited to a single person.

*sight*

Man I would love to have Cass as a bi option *sigh* time doesn't heal this one Bioware. Eh I'm gonna pursue her anyway, bro inquisitor on the ready. And in DAO lesbians and gays only had one option, that was it, so yeah can't say my heart bleeds for those who had it sweet all along.

You got two, gays got two we're even but hetero gals are the new special snowflakes in this game. :P

As a straight male, having two options is plenty as long as they have good content. BioWare are one of the few gaming companies who do create well-written romance content in their games, despite the constant complaining.

DA:I seems to lean towards female in terms of romance options, but ME3 leant towards male. Perhaps ME4 or DA4 or the Star Wars RPG will be equal, but not everything has to be 100% equal.

This just gives me more incentive to replay the game as a female character.

well since the majority of the forum are females( at least the most vocal ones), you can understand why straight female got more options....i wish i would be like a majority and play as a female, but thats just not my thing :P and again we got all those stereotypes: iron bull is bi, he likes to sleep with everything that moves, cullen is religious, no way he'll swing for another team, and ofc theres blackwall too masculine too...uuum....to be bi or gay...here i avoided to make it sound dirty lol :D

Same, I quite like the way Cass looks. She looks...strong really, I think that's the best way to describe her.

No it's not. She is butch. The term butch is not synonymous with being ugly, but as I've said before on here, that's what it has come to mean because of heteronormativity.

Then you have my most sincere apologies. I've always seen it as sort of a slur. So I suppose I'm a bit ignorant on the subject. Again, my mistake.

It's more every time you see an Asari it is almost always in relation to some sort of sexual encounter. The fact their boobs get bigger as they age, the fact even an asexual race (Salarians) somehow cannot resist being attracted. Liara is certainly spared much of it, but even Samara has outfit of sexualizing for her totally chaste Justicaring, but I feel that is more leaning towards Saphobia than just Bisexual promiscuity. They are the most problematic race introduced so far to me.

And I actually think we are saying I agree, but in different ways. But yes exactly! Nothing wrong with promiscuity but it is treated in a certain way with characters that is pretty messed up.

I wouldn't buy the games without the romance content. I don't get many chances to play a game where I can play as a gay male, nor do I see many protagonists in any other sort of media that are. It's extremely important to me and, if they cut it, I would lose interest. Romance is a bigger deal in Bioware games to some than others. I honestly don't care much about combat, so long as I can functionally do it without too much frustration. Everybody finds different things they like in these games.

So here's my thing...

In Dragon Age II, there were four bisexual love interests + Seb. Straight men had two options, straight women had three options, gay women had two options, and gay men had two options. Bisexual men and women had four options.

Now, in Inquisition they DOUBLE the number of LIs and what happens?

Straight men have two options, gay women have two options, and gay men have two options. Bisexual men have four options. Straight women now get four and bisexual women get six.

They DOUBLE the amount of love interests, but everyone but straight and bisexual women have exactly the same number of options as before, and I don't think bisexual people were the ones complaining about the lack of options previously.

And you know what? If they'd kept the 2 bi women/2 bi dudes from Dragon Age II, I'd probably be romancing Cassandra. I'm literally in the position where I wish they'd created half as many love interests. WTF?

Fenris shows no attraction to anyone. Not even to Isabela that I can recall.

He has sex with her.

I don't think Blackwall being straight has anything to do with masculinity. I'd say Bull is a hell of a lot more muscle bound than Blackwall is, and he's bi. (Not to say Blackwall isn't masculine...don't hurt me fellow climbers.  :P )

Star Wars RPG? I hope you're not talking about the April Fool's joke about KOTOR 3?

I'm talking about the one that was announced when EA revealed they'd obtained the license. They said they had three SW games currently in development, a shooter by DICE, an action-adventure by Visceral Games and an RPG by BioWare.

It wasn't referring to TOR as they'd have just said it was TOR - besides that's an MMORPG.
