What if.... both Lels and Cassandra had been options?

If you don't favor Lels I believe we can't be friends anymore.

Already had Leliana in Origins, so I'd have to go with Cass, lol

Hmm I always thought of Butch as a slur to be honest though the only time I've heard the word is in an insulting way usually towards gay or aggressive women. I'm not disagreeing with you though just to be clear I'm just saying that I've never heard that word used as anything other than an insult so it hear that it is in fact not one is quite strange like learning something new strange.

****** is a slur if not used by a Butch Lesbian. Butch is not a slur it just means more Masculine, sadly people treat it as a slur because somehow the idea is if a woman isn't portrayed femininely than she is ugly and that is bad. Cassandra definitely looks Butch which is why so many lesbians wanted her as many lesbians are attracted to Butch women and are butch women.

If my warden was dead then sure I'd pick Leliana but she ain't so Cass wins in this scenario. :P

I see you skillfully sneaked your way past this one.

My higher brain tells me that Leliana and my Warden are meant to be together.

My lower "brain" tells me I want to be the filling in that moon pie.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not implying it can't be used as a slur, but it completely depends on the persons obvious intent. If it is clear they are using it as a means to insult, possibly with other insults, that person is a taint, but just the term butch is not inherently a slur.

Having only been heard before in insulting terms I always thought the word itself was insulting as well its interesting to learn that it was not really intended to be so. I do understand that it can be used insultingly, I've lost count of how many times I've heard it being used as an insult especially in high school but as for the word itself not being an insult usually is quite and interesting learn.

Yeah. Well, hopefully with this kind of granularity, each individual romance has more content. Having replayed DA2 recently, it's kind of disconcerting to see just how short romance plots actually are.

Who knows? I guess.

Yeah if my warden was dead I would love Leliana to be a romance but since she is still alive Leliana's heart belongs to her and her alone

Both your brains make good points.

Only compromise is for everyone to share the pie.

Having grown up as a tomboy my bullies go to insults were either ****** (rhymes with bike because it's probably gonna be censored) and "he-she" which made no sense but always pissed me off.

Calling Cassandra butch isn't an insult, it's just what she is. A butch bad ass warrior with a romantic side *swoon*

If you want to be offended go look what she wrote in the Blackwall thread.  -_-

I saw her say it before it was announced. But, well.. looks like Bioware agrees, so, what can you do?

Soo...guess everyone in the LGB crowd got the short end of the stick then ?

That's it, I'm done. I'm glad I can still get Blackwall. But I'm feeling so bitter and disappointed right now.

Sorry to all the Lesbians who wanted Viv. I feel your pain.  :(

Well bisexual female elfs hit the jackpot... lucky bastages :D

"He-she" was used against pretty much any queer person where I'm from. So I got that one too.

You're correct. I should of looked it up before I decided to open my mouth. I'm really sorry.

She is gorgeous though, probably has the most unique look of any of the Female love interests in the series.

(Still wish Aveline had been an LI...)

Don't worry about it, even fellow lesbians mess that one up and the last thing I wish on any straight person is wading into the depths of LGBT politics which are...complicated.

but boy did I want Aveline as well. The sad thing is because Masculine women=bad stereotype but many consider only feminine characters to also be a sexist stereotype, the conclusion is often masculine women are always straight, le sigh.

Are you saying straight females got more options because they're the most vocal?

Also Leliana is religious and she's bi

Well i'm rarelly here but i see a lot of posts from females or people who just likes to play as a female...and Leliana as a bi is understandable(they can close eyes for religious thing for the sake of straight males wanting their lesbian action ;) )i see a lot of men on russian forums who play as females just for that and who still cringe when knowing that there could be gay romances as well

Oh, I'm not straight. Bisexual man here.  :P

But yeah, it really sucks that people constantly whined about how ugly Aveline was. I thought she was gorgeous and much more unique than most of the other female companions we've had.

Bioware has done this a few times now and Cass was the last straw for me. It really is fine to make a butch/masculine woman gay, you wont offend the gays by "perpetuating stereotypes." Those stereotypes are real, a lot of real gay women look like that. If they were going for realism, then it makes very little sense imo.

Lucky me, except I have zero interest in Solas, but having the choice is nice, lol.

Oh I'm not disagreeing that it isn't I'm sorry if I came across that way I was just merely trying to explain why I had previously thought that it was, and that it is interesting to learn that it is not a slur.

Personally wasn't aboard the Cassandra train until just very recently when I noticed she's a DA version of a character I adore but she does have me very tempted to make more than one male character to romance her with.

I understand what you meant, was just trying to clarify.

And I am still very much on the fence about whether or not I want to bother making a male character to romance her.

What will probably happen is I will make my first female character, play as completionist as possible and then when I'm done maybe make a dude...But I will probably lose interest before the half way point in the game and just end up watching her romance on Youtube, as has been the case with all past bioware games, lol.

My apologies XD You know what they say when you assume.

As a lesbian, part of me just wishes they would stop or give us the Butch women since somehow they won't be "forced" to have them. It is so frustrating to have to be insulted all the time because of how you look and present.

Hey, I was wondering since we are on the topic, what do you gay guys feel about Femme gay men in media? I know often they are treated almost like straight women accessories but I don't know if you guys feel the same, especially since it is a more common trope in media than Butch women.

Dunno why you would take away that lesson when straight male toons have the same number of options.

They didn't have the opportunity to add an extra straight romance. (Again, I think not wanting a character to be romanceable is a better excuse for inequality than wanting them to be gated to one gender or another: I recognize that real people have set sexualities that you can't change; but character sexualities are chosen by the writer.)

I wasn't particularly interested in Vivenne as Cassandra would've been my choice (other first choices include Morrigan, Ashley, Miranda and Aveline :( ).  But the choice would've been nice, plus I know it would've made other people happy.  Which IMO are the strongest arguments here.  Well one nice thing is that for once I don't know going into a game who I will end up romancing, Sera or Josephine.  I look forward to the experience.

I tried to play as a male Warden in Dragon Age: Origins, ended up leaving Lothering, sleeping with Morrigan, and quitting the game. It feels icky to be a dude just to get in someone's pants.

I was genuinely surprised that Solas was straight and so heavily race gated, but finding out that his romance was apparently added later when they had the extra development time, it makes more sense. I never had much of a feeling that Vivienne would be romanceable, and Blackwall seemed too appealing to too many different people to not be a romance, even though I wish he was bi.

I agree. It's harder to get into the story and the game and the character and it's just bleh.

This is basically how I felt, except gender swapped, and I never made it far enough to sleep with Alistair.
