This is basically how I felt, except gender swapped, and I never made it far enough to sleep with Alistair.
What a prude, making you wait, lol.

I tried to play as a male Warden in Dragon Age: Origins, ended up leaving Lothering, sleeping with Morrigan, and quitting the game. It feels icky to be a dude just to get in someone's pants.
Yes, it feels like I am being a predator when playing a man to romance a woman. So hard to explain. It is not that all men are predators, just that Male/female dynamic is very different from a Female/female one and it has a weird off sense to it.
My apologies XD You know what they say when you assume.
As a lesbian, part of me just wishes they would stop or give us the Butch women since somehow they won't be "forced" to have them. It is so frustrating to have to be insulted all the time because of how you look and present.
Hey, I was wondering since we are on the topic, what do you gay guys feel about Femme gay men in media? I know often they are treated almost like straight women accessories but I don't know if you guys feel the same, especially since it is a more common trope in media than Butch women.
I don't want to speak for everyone, and this question is probably better directed at Nocte than myself. But I'll give my thoughts.
The femme gay male stereotype is OK for the most part. A lot of gay men really are like that, and there's nothing wrong with it. I have an issue with the 'gay best friend' stereotype that's kind of an accessory to the femme gay stereotype. But I don't find it offensive in general.
It male take me a long while but I can eventually play as a guy I've done it before in games and two games I really enjoy make you play as a male (though to be fair I almost always pick to play as the female character when the one of the games finally lets me) so playing another gender takes a long while for me to do but I can do it, different races is where it gets harder for me as silly as it sounds.

I can only manage one male playthrough and that's for dire situations like having a Morrigan near you in DAO and for DAI a Cass close by. The struggle is real

I thought I'd struggle with that too, but then Alistair's romance dialogue is just incredibly hilarious 75% of the time. The other 25% was his insecurities, which thankfully came off naturally, and actually a little adorably (I swear I'm straight!). I'm still annoyed at Carth from KOTOR, second-guessing my every breath. =P

I think it's got to do with the fact that the man in a straight relationship tends to feel like the aggressor in everything. I'm not sure how lesbian relationships are really. But I'm assuming they work a bit differently.

I'm fine playing male (I just make him eyecandy and call it a day) it's when I'm romancing a female that it gets...odd. I frankly would rather not. I don't tend to enjoy those romances much. I can do everything else no issue.
My males tend to be single
mine all mine! *cackles* one exception are my Hawkes in DA2. All of myy Hawkes romanced someone. Mostly Fenris XD

I'll be frank. I just didn't like Carth at all.

I can't blame you. He just goes on and on about how he can't trust you. He's right but that doesn't make it any less annoying.
Plus Bastila can go all evil with you where's Carth just whines and jumps on your saber like a moron after ditching Mission to be slaughtered. (I seriously went "wow." at that scene. I mean...nice going Carth. Ditch the teenager to the evil psychotic sith lord. Logic).
Ugh, Carth...
Totally OT Post.
Speaking of Carth I still need to get that game for a reasonable price. Oddly hard to find online for some reason.

It only bothers me when the stereotype dehumanizes the character. There are feminine gay men and there are different ways gay men can be feminine. Some people call Dorian feminine just because he takes care of his appearance, Loras from Game of Throne is actually called "The Knight of Flowers" or something like that, but I assume we are specifically talking "FAAAAAAAABULOUUUUUUS" gay. In terms of this, there are two issues that I see. One is that it's really over represented (like the promiscuous bisexual issue). It's not a problem, but how often it still happens is kind of a problem. The second is that these men often seem to only exist to be what people are calling the "gay best friend". They're not really whole people, they're just there to make jokes and encourage the main character. They don't have any real individuality most of the time.
Bioware can almost be a little extreme with how masculine characters are. It's basically the reverse of the "butch lesbian" issue. If a character is slightly less than an Iron Bull or Blackwall, people start calling them effeminate. People say it about Zevran and Dorian and I don't see it at all. When you have to be an eight foot tall Qunari that's six foot wide to be acknowledged as masculine, there's an issue.

Steam has both of them for pretty cheap. KOTOR 2 is worth a playthrough with a content mod.

I mean as much as people like to joke about "man in the relationship" I think the lack of a social role in a relationship certainly changes the dynamic. Women can be pursuers, and aggressors but it often switches as well. There is no set path.

Yeah, Zev and Dorian are not feminine at all. They just take care of themselves, have a 'dashing' personality, and happen to be into men. That really doesn't make them effeminant.
I have to agree with Maria, and not because she's one of my favourite people on these forums. It feels slightly ridiculous, especially to be benefitting from such a tip in the scales. One group getting one more would've been a little more understandable. Not to say that I don't understand how it happened. Originally everyone would have been equal.
Gay - Sera, Dorian
Bi - Josephine, Bull
Straight - Blackwall, Cassandra
With the extra time they chose to add two more romances, and the people left were Vivienne, Cullen, Solas, Cole and Leliana. Cole and Lel were off the table for story reasons. I'm assuming Viv's writer didn't want her to have a romance, so she may have story reasons as well. That left Cullen and Solas. The disparity in genders is probably partially responsible as well.
Over all, of course I'm happy for the inclusion of more content (though at this point my privilege is rather throbbing), and I'm grateful to BioWare for making the effort to have things equal and then to give us more but it still doesn't really seem right that once again minority groups are lacking in option. ![]()

For Zevran, I wonder if some people come to the conclusion that suave = effeminate. Because, yeah, Zevran is pretty damn suave.

Nah tis all good! Carth ran off letting me force Zaalbar to kill Mission and then I got to kill Carth personally later on.
Evil! FemRevan was almost as fun as Evil! MaleRevan.

.....I feel really out of place all of a sudden lol but seriously no not all of us are predators we wish for love and companionship just as women do and can be sweet romantics but well we are rare lol. But as a yuri fan I agree that female/female has something about it that is more sweet, cute and romantic
It's difficult to describe. Lesbians can be very aggressive but there's different energy to it.
Even sweet, friendly guys can be a touch threatening in the wrong circumstances. Which isn't their fault. Even when women are aggressive, I know I'm in control.
Yeah, again I think it's just got to do with gender dynamics and men generally being..just bigger than women. As a bisexual man I'm used to being both the aggressor and the pursued (Couldn't think of a better word.) So I can sort of understand what you're talking about.

I prefer FemRevan. Feels more badass. Plus trolling Carth is funnier than Bastila ![]()

Very stupid question I'm about to ask but you can hook up a console controller to a laptop right? I can only play maybe two games on PC and thats when I had a nice big desktop. Keyboard controls are just really weird for me^^; Alright next time I get more spending money I'll keep my eyes out for that two. The list of Bioware games I need to pick up keeps growing it seems ![]()

It's not that men are actually predators. It's more about that they are always the dominant, pushy one in a relationship when it comes to certain things. Which makes them kind of threatening at times.
