Well, clearly we need something to argue about that will fill 200 pages with respectful debate.

Does Blackwall have as much body hair as we think or not? Is Solas all the way bald if-you-know-what-I-mean?

I am 100% very serious.

You mean, does the lack of curtains match the lack of drapes?  :o

I..I'm just too scandalized to go on! Where's the fainting couch?

Blackwall's body hair will overwhelm the PC, something sorta like this...

Spoiler

Blackwall doesn't do manscaping I reckon, very hairy and proud. If he was a gay option you'd class him as a bear.

For reasons of equal representation, all male characters have the same amount of hair, just distributed over different places of their body.

Sorry, I am not.

Wait? All other rommances are blocked off once you start one? We won't get jealous bickering among our LIs, thats horrible. :(

Really?!??? Oh noes!

I honestly planned to setup a character with the specific goal to increase the jealousy of my party. Female elf, traveling with Solas, Sera and Iron Bull or Blackwall (which makes a pretty balanced party) and sleeping with all of them, just to hear them fight over me.

And now you tell me I can't do that? That's very, very dissapointing.

Actually, that seems very fair.

I think.

Since this is the current romance thread open, I'd like to express my thoughts.  Admittedly, I was a little disappointed about a lack of a Varric romance, but I wasn't too surprised.  I'm over it now, since I figure I'll just make him my Lady Cadash's drinking buddy.  I was quite surprised also at Cullen being gated against dwarves, but I have a feeling they'll explain why.

Nevertheless, Iron Bull looks like a lot of fun, and Blackwall is tempting...though going for the man on the verge of death strikes me as a good way to tempt me to tears as well.  We'll wait and see.

Belated congratulations on those that wanted Solas and Blackwall as romances.  To the Varricmancers, and the Vivienne lovers, it was a let down and I'm sorry that many of us were disappointed.  Still, at least we've got quite the list of LIs to choose from, and I know I'll have a lot of replays to do to see all of the ones I want too.   :D

I have a feeling Dwarfs are blocked off not necessarily because of them being Dwarfs but because the background is essentially a smuggler.

What do Dwarfs smuggle? Lyrium. Cullen seems to be a by the books kind of guy and he's probably seen many a friend go down the lyrium addiction path fueled by the Dwarven smuggler rings.

I like the fact that some of the choices can be older than the PC gives them a sense of worldly mentor like addition to the romance

Someone once made a comment that Cullen is only interested in women that could effectively roleplay as a circle mage.

I prefer that explanation.

I'm not committing to riding or climbing anyone until I play the game at this point.  As it is, Iron Bull is starting to look more likely.  I like his personality so far, even if his build is a little over-muscular for my taste.  Also, I'm kinda picturing my dwarf inquisitor as being a bit of a fish out of water, so her and IB might really hit it off.

It's going to be hard to romance Blackwall.  I didn't do the romance with Thane*, but even then I was still crying buckets in ME3.

*Thane is a LI for straight women in ME2.  He tells you upfront that he's dying of an incurable terminal illness.  No, he doesn't make it long into ME3.

Then wouldn't he be class locked as well?

This is an example of bedroom roleplay:

Not if you're just roleplaying, he just wants it to be convincing. :P

Exactly!

You don't necessarily have to be a circle mage for it to work.

As evidenced by one of Isabella's banters with Aveline about her dead husband being a templar.

You got an interesting point, and I hadn't looked at it that way.  The only hitch is that not all dwarves smuggle lyrium, but some associations are difficult to shake.  Also, as someone pointed out, Cullen has spent much of his life around humans and elves.  He's familiar and comfortable with them.  Between the dwarven+lyrium mental connection, and the events in Kirkwall coloring his views about the Qunari, the gating does indeed make sense.

That's what the internet's for. Finding such things out.

....Actually, on second thought, that's a horrible suggestion and prone to being full of lies and really awkward potential screen grabs.

I mean, there's all kinds of strange body hair riddles we could solve. Possibly with a sauna scene.

The super special Skyhold sauna.

Edit: Okay, that actually came out as less silly and a bit wierder than intended. Uh. Where I live, saunas are A) pretty normal, B) frequently enjoyed by family and friends and C) a pretty decent excuse to sit down and drink beer and water and gossip.

We always need more chances to gossip with companions.

ngl, I actually quite liked the "everyone is bi" approach in DA2, from a player perspective. It made things a lot easier when trying to romance them, and I didn't have to get through half the game, find a character I love, then realise I can only romance them as a male (looking at you, Tali), and then force another arbitrary playthrough with a male PC for the sole purpose of experiencing their romance plot. Sours the experience a bit.

I guess you could argue that I should've Googled the romance options before playing, but I find that kinda ruins my experience of the game. I like to play through things organically the first time, without knowledge of the characters/plot, so I'm not "expecting" anything, and everything is a novel surprise (in theory).

However! It doesn't bother me that it's switched back, though - it makes sense that some characters would have orientations, like real people do. The characters' personalities are the same, which is the important part, so.

Merrill's reply to walking in on them is one of my all time fav lines from DA and so is Isabela's reaction afterwords.
