I don't agree that it "doesn't count" because of some specific circumstances you need to unlock the romance. Having an actual, literal zero options in ME1 and ME2, I feel very safe saying that it's not the same as an option you have a little more trouble unlocking.

No matter how you look at it straight female shepards got a worse deal in ME3 than non-straight ones.

"Oh hey i kind of started dating this chick after you got grounded. I hope thats okay."

I confess, given how evil Renegade Shepard can be, the stupidity of betraying a SPECTRE is something you have to wonder about.

Oh goody.  Another romance thread and it's already filled with in-fighting.  20 pages in one night.

Anyway, here goes:

I'm torn between what I want for the last romance.  One the one hand, I want Blackwall to be bisexual or gay because I really think its high time that we get a hairy bear romance instead of all of the pretty-boy romances.  Iron Bull is a step in the right direction, but Blackwall would seal the deal for me.  Also, it would be awesome to not have the least amount of options yet again.  Just once.  Just in one game, I'd like to have not the least amount of options.  And they could still do that if they chose Blackwall.

On the other hand, I've been wanting Vivienne to be a bisexual or lesbian option since her reveal.  She's really the only female character that I'm interested in for my female Inquisitor.  Plus, I don't really see why she needs to be race-gated.  The 'it would be scandal" argument is pretty weak in my opinion.  The Inquisitor is going to be one of the most powerful people in Thedas.  But, according to this theory, she'll pass on a romance with an elf, dwarf, or qunari Inquisitor because of a potential scandal?  That doesn't sound like Vivienne at all.  If she's really as ambitious as people are making her out to be, then her position with the Inquisition is exactly the kind of thing that would help her position.  I could very easily see her being open to any race.  Of course, if Vivienne is bisexual, then everyone would get 3 options except gay guys, which would be a bummer.

With regard to the last race-gated romance.  I'm going to say that it's going to be someone that is the same gender as the last LI.  If it's Vivienne, then I suspect it will be Cassandra.  If it's Blackwall, then I suspect it will be Cullen or Dorian.  This way, everyone still gets their options without any concerns of being gated into only one option.

My main problem isn't about female straight options; i know they got it bad, just like gays. It's about male straight options since they got the most romances. And the most "perfect" ones since none of them died or cheated on him with a baby.

But at the moment straight male have exactly the same number of options you have.

No matter how you look at it straight players got a worse deal in ME3 than non-straight ones.

I don't see it that way at all and I have a hard time understanding how anyone else does. I would have easily traded my options for straight women's options. And straight male options? Hahahaha. There is no comparison.

Not that one game really would make up for every other game, anyway.

If Blackwall is gay, i'll make a male character for that.

THEY CANNOT ESCAPE MY LOVE!

Nope. Jack/Ashley/Miranda/Tali/Liara. Ermm, what? Only Liara is available to us.

He doesn't count as an ME3 romance option if the only way to romance him is to carry it on from ME2.

And this isn't even getting into the fact that Kaiden can be dead. A female Shepard starting in ME3 or who didn't romance Garrus can have literally 0 options

This is flawed logic to me.  If he's in the game and unlocks the romance achievement, he counts.  Can a female Shepard romance Garrus in ME 3?  That's the question.  And the answer is yes.  So he counts.  It's silly to start discounting romances because reasons.  It certainly doesn't strengthen the argument.

Yes, straight females could have had zero options.  They are the only group that could have had zero options.  But they could also have had two options.  Just like gay guys and lesbians.  Conditionally, they could have had the least amount of options.  But in the game coding?  They have the same amount of options as everyone except for straight guys.  There are just more "conditions" around access to their romances.  It sucked for them.  I'm not trying to take it away from them, because it sucked for them.  But it is factually incorrect to say that they didn't have two romances in ME3.

Ashey can die, Tali can die heck even jack and Miranda can die the only romance option that can't die is Liara and anyone who romanced a mass effect 2 character had jack all content anyway Tali and Ashley are in very little of the game and have almost not interaction once they get on the Ship.

Hoping for Viv to be bisexual.

Same. IMO that would be the ideal option right now.

good post and I agree about Blackwall here's hoping that he is at least bi

I mean maybe Vivienne and Blackwall are both romance options? Solas doesn't really count as a full romance option
he is way too limited and affects only a very small percentage of players

So maybe they got someting like that for males( Vivienne being race gated and only available to human males)

And a "full" romance with Blackwall who is bi that would be best I think

Well, we are talking about ME.

If he meant DAI, fair enough. I still worry for Viv being straight.

I liked Carth Onasi.

Not so much Kaiden.

Carth was a decent character, his voiceover? Not so much. What is even worse, he wasn't even trying.

People romanced Jacob?

I thought that was a myth.

I guess 6 people did in fact romance Jacob.

In Inquisition, we are all even except for straight females.  There are several ways this can shake out:

If Vivienne is straight:

Straight guys - 3; Gay guys - 2; Straight gals - 3; Lesbians - 2

If Vivienne is bisexual:

Straight guys - 3; Gay guys - 2; Straight gals - 3; Lesbians - 3

If Vivienne is gay:

Straight guys - 2; Gay guys - 2; Straight gals - 3; Lesbians - 3

If Blackwall is straight:

Straight guys - 2; Gay guys - 2; Straight gals - 4; Lesbians - 2

If Blackwall is bisexual:

Straight guys - 2; Gay guys - 3; Straight gals - 4; Lesbians - 2

If Blackwall is gay:

Straight guys - 2; Gay guys - 3; Straight gals -3; Lesbians - 2

I'd rather the characters be interested in what suits them. If it makes sense for their personality then I don't care.

I don't want them making characters bi/straight and what not just to make it equal.

As much as I am disappointed over the Cass reveal I'm pro set sexuality in this game too. I hated the route they went with DA2, glad they went back to the DAO model. I prefer that the LI's have their own preferences, makes them feel more real in a sense, like us we all have different orientations. And if it fits the characters okay fine, I'll just have to work around it even though some of the choices weren't ideal for my preferred gender playthroughs.

Can we just agree ME hadn't a lot of things badly and leave it at that? From vater to straight men, to over sexualizing Miranda(Oversexulizing Jacob doesn't make it better) to the ending(For some at least).

At the end of the day, this is a DA thread and the DA team isn't the ME team. Hopefully ME4 will be at least as good as DA:I is being about it, but can we keep the conversation to DA related things.

I actually prefer the variety of sexuality approach as well.  I'm just disappointed that it's looking likely that this approach has 100% of the time led to gay guys getting the least amount of options in a game.  It would be fantastic (and is really unlikely) if Blackwall was bisexual or gay, but I'm not holding my breath.

This is basically my problem with set sexualities. I don't have a preference towards either all bi characters or an equal distribution, but I'm convinced at this point that set sexualities will always mean I get less options.

I admit, now I want Citadel-like DLC for Dragon Age.

"Dragon Keep DLC-- Where all the Companions from the Three Games, Hawke, the Inquisitor, and the Warden can get together to chill out."
