I just don't see why exclusively hetero romances need to be included at all.
Why not? Don't they deserve to be represented alongside gay and bi romances?

Of course not! They've gotten all the other games for their preferences!!!! *Tumblr logic*
Seriously, I just want to get the final disappointment out of the way. I just don't see why more het romances are necessary. If I want an exclusively heterosexual/heteronormative romance story there are thousands of titles to choose from.
Andraste didn't die to give us straight love interests
Just because a game has heterosexual romances does not mean those romances are heteronormative.
When they want to tell a story about a character that includes their sexuality at least, it is certainly needed. Dorian's story almost certainly includes him not wanting to marry a woman in order to make powerful mage children because he's gay. Alistair's story could have had unfortunate implications as a king if he had to dump you when he becomes king because he needs to be with a woman to have children. Solas's story I believe will have a particular story reason for the straight part as well as the elven part, but we'll have to wait for the game to come out to see.
I thought it was a reminder that this is an unfair world, though I don't recall a male gamer pitfall as bad.

Bioware's games are, barring some indie titles, the least heteronormative ones in gaming and pretty high up there in media in general aimed at a general audience.
....wait.....what?
Your partner's sexuality doesn't define your own. You can be in a relationship with a partner of a differing gender, even if they, themselves, are not straight. A heteronormative relationship does not automatically mean both parties are straight. There was a lot of backlash over the all-bi cast of DA2 though, so it doesn't surprise me that they're changing tack. Again, I think they should have just announced things sooner, rather than let people get their hopes up.

Ugh I really dislike that term heteronormative myself, it always rubs me the wrong way. I find it kind of insulting to straight folk, excuse them for existing.

To expand my point, straight romances should be included for the same reason that gay, lesbian, and bi romances should be included. They exist.

I don't see why it would be offensive. It's like pointing out we live in a racist society...We do. That's not an opinion. If that makes white people uncomfortable, then imagine how uncomfortable black people are dealing with it literally all the time. Same thing with gay folks having to deal with heteronormativity.

We live in a heteronormative society, though. The word is supposed to be neutral, but the reason for the discomfort is that it is often used as an attack in straight people that they just happen to be the common folk. Being part of that society does not automatically make you hate gay people, no?

Well if you're white you also don't have to be consciously or intentionally racist to benefit from societal racism just like straight people don't have to be homophobic to benefit from heteronormativity.
worse comes to worse we lose romance disscussion like our ME cousinsand here we go....thread spiral has officially started...i say a few more pages before the lock. You think another will be made after this one?

This is considered a bad thing?
All the straight women gonna be having their picks between Cullen, Iron-Bull, Solas and Blackwall while I'm stuck with Dorian and IB lol, I'm actually jealous of that thought massively. I just want a normal man who is either not a zombie lover or a horny ogre (literally), Bioware please don't deny me Blackwall!!!
Well, while gays have had even less options than straight ladies, straight women getting more options gives me hope for the future. It's progress.
Also we still don't know if Blackwall is a romance or not (probably not.)

Productive discussion do come out of these threads, so long as the vitriol is kept to a minimum.
Was out. What craziness did I miss? Apparently the devs were being harassed. That's so not helping! Anyone care to explain?
Varric was revealed to not be a romance and some people decided to harass the devs on Twitter, which is extremely inappropriate and has quieted down a bit now that the shock has worn off.

Hello, please try to discuss the topic of the thread, romances in DA Inquisition, so this thread can stay open. Thank you.

Like I said, it's kind of an interesting point that Bioware thinks the "everyone is Player Sexual" thing was a bad thing for artistic reasons. I think there was room for debate in that.

I have an intense jealousy because the Freddie Mercury look-alike only accepts men.
That's a myth. The Waifu war is all.
See? I've never understood this. I romanced Morrigan in DAO, that but I never thought that Leliana was the WRONG romance.
Merrill was my choice in DA2, but I never felt that made me better than folks who shacked up with Isabela, Anders, or Fenris.

This! One hundred thousand times this!
Freddie Mercury: Mage Extraordinaire should be for all.
