Ugh, I am already not that interested in Sera's character. In fact, I feel like she's the only one of the companions that I'm not even remotely interested in being friends with.

But yes, I doubt they will do Companions like Obsidian did in KOTOR2 but it'd be cool if one maybe had a chance to change like Kaiden or Jaela Williamson in ME and SW:TOR.
Turn their opinions around on things like Mages or whatever.
People do change after all.
Albeit, I don't think they'll have Chaste Jedi/Psycho Sex Kitten as an option.

I think you'll get some good stuff with Cass in this regard. I'm really excited to see her character develop. She's probably my favorite of the companions as of now.
Cassandra does seem to be quite good.
Though I may be hypocritical here because I also think Josephine might be somewhat like Leliana in it's not all serious, all the time too.

Romantic Friendships
This is tangentially related to this topic but I wonder how much the "romantic friendship" element will be played up. Basically, those people who AREN'T strictly love interests but who have deep and abiding relationships with the PCs. I always worry that's going to get lost with the focus on romances in these games. Alistair's relationship with the Male Warden was one of the deepest ones in Origin and I also loved the close and abiding relationship between Mage PC and Wynne (even if they disagreed on EVERYTHING).
Morrigan and Male PC are arguably better without the romance element (even if they have a child together) because they're such good friends and with no expectations.
Dragon Age 2 had some good bits there but I always felt Anders and Merril lost something if you didn't romance them.

Given the "Ribald Joke" art, I'm pretty sure that Sera is going to be a jokester and the FunTM of the group.
Which may not be to everyone's tastes.
I suspect my MessiahQuisitor's friendship with her is going to be a trifle strange to outsiders.

While I'm sure it'll be Cassandra or Josephine, I'm going to play it by ear since I'm going to be playing Mage Jesus.
This will be me stepping out of the Rift.

Because she comes off as not at all my type, but we still don't know a lot about her, so I hope I am pleasantly surprised. She seems like she shares a lot of character traits with Alistair, and I not only was not attracted to Alistair, but he actually actively turned me off. It's just not a personality type I enjoy.

I like Cassandras personality. Hard as nails on the outside but deep down a romantic. But of course, she is not interested in women, and my heart will forever be broken because of this.

I'd never entertain romancing Vivienne (even if she was a bi LI) because she's Orlaisian and Pro-Circle.
