I don't mind porn as long as it stays in the porn section
But I do wish people discussed Vivienne's political stance and Iron Bull's past trauma theories [insert any other character here] rather than repeat how gorgeous/sexy they are and that they'll cry if/because they can't romance them every few pages
It's not bad... But way too boring and repetitive. Like talking to one of my friends about anime. We both like it but I'm getting sick of hearing about her favourite fanfiction/anime boy/shipping every time we meet. It's fun but not that much fun

Do you not feel like you're being represented in Bioware games? This is the first DA game to have outright gay characters. ME3 had outright gay characters. Not bisexual, not playersexual, but characters with their own preferences, that they liked men/women, and would not swing one way or the other for the player.

Of course I'm happy that we're being represented. I'm not ungrateful. I'm not even that disappointed. But I want to see equal options for everyone, And now someone has to get the short end of the stick. And it's guaranteed to be either lesbians or gays, or both.

The last thing I want to do is to speak for others here, but I don't think people are denying that BW have provided representation, but more that token LGBTQ representation still doesnt constitute equality. I know it's baby steps, as with all things, but the people affected by underrepresentation have the right to voice concerns about this. An improvement isn't an excuse to stop pushing, it's an opportunity to say "I appreciate you moving in the right direction, and THIS is what you still have left to work on"

My point is that a designer of any piece of media/art has no obligation and likely not interest in catering to a minority neither he/she nor anyone he/she is close with belongs to.

 

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, and I don't mean to presume, but here goes another question. Aren't you already affected by the fact that most people are straight in your real life? In perfectly natural and unavoidable ways, such as a random person you are interested in not being attracted to your gender. Why does that become unacceptable when it comes to video games?

 

Okay, I can't speak for anyone else, but putting representation aside, it's also more like, what one likes to entertained with. For example, I like playing narrative driven games, and games with a female protag. Nothing political behind it, but this is just what I enjoy! Don't players like me have a right to be entertained too, as long as we are paying the asking price for the product?

 

Something like that. The same goes for other demographics too. Actually, the industry is not too bad about it. They seem at least receptive to feedback, as long as it isn't rude. And do recognize that gaming has grown. Usually, it's other gamers who feel games should be limited to one "type" and one "demographic". Everyone else not part of this circle should just GTFO. An awful mentality really.

I can see were your coming from,

But at the same time the writers I fell are trying to tell a story and 2 or the 8 are only romance-able because of the extra time the devs got and the devs writing them have a vision for these character.

There were probably meetings at Bioware just to discuss that.

Personally, having lesser options this time around is something I've made peace with. I mean, I have to. Do you know how exhausting it is to always be passionate and often cranky about inclusivity and certain groups being represented? Sure, I'll always like discuss characters who identify as LGBT being included more. I would like to think I could have hand at that in the future. But I think it's fair to say that players can still both enjoy the games while critquing the portrayal of these characters.

I think I might have missed something. Do you mean that people will get the short end of the stick because only some of the characters are bisexual, instead of all the the characters? Like all the characters being playersexual in DA2?

 

Also, I get that LGB means Lesbian Gay Bisexual, but I'm lost on the Q and T. What do those stand for?

It's not the problem that people want more lgbt LIs but it feels like the more Bioware does the more aggressive complaints become
I'd say that seeing from time to time at least a couple of "Thank you Bioware for caring!" posts would be nice
And no super bitter accusations of them being intentionally racist, homophobic, sexist etc
