Hey, Cortez's story gave me the feels. It wasn't that bad.
Have I told you about my ship obsession lately Shepard? Let me do that.

But he still counts as a straight female romance. If I chose not to romance Steve because he's an NPC, I can't very well say that he's not an option for me.
It's not same. It's not my choice to not romance Solas. Valpur would love to romance him but it's him who has problem with her so nothing I can't do about it, same problem that if elf Inquisitor is guy.
Solas is straight. But option he's only for female elf Inquisitor and those who play female elf Inquisitors. For majority of straight females he's not option more than he's to gay guys.
I don't think we do. I take it you're not into curvy goddesses?
That's okay. I was going to bromance Dorian anyway, and that IS something, now isn't it?
Ha. I appreciate the idea of curvy goddesses. ![]()
If Vivienne is a female option open to either dwarves or qunari, then perhaps we can bond over her romance as well as Dorian's. That seems appropriate on some level, right?
No you weren't preachy at all my annoyance was not at you I get more annoyed at people who are in a bad mood and go out of there way to spread it around and don't care about it.
That's fair enough and I can understand. I think for some people (myself included), the recent announcements were a bit hard to swallow, but eh, they'll get over it in time. But it's real nice to reading your input. Keep at it.

No, you're choosing to not play an elf at some point. And therefore you're choosing not to indulge in his romance content.

Of course not every straight female can romance him. That's the entire point of race-gating. But it doesn't take away the fact that I could play as a straight female Inquisitor and Solas can be my LI. Ergo, he's an option for straight female Inquisitors. It's really that simple.
If Dorian is a human only romance, I can't say he's not a gay male romance. I have to count him. I can certainly qualify it by saying that not all gay males have access to him, but I can't disregard him altogether and pretend his romance doesn't exist.
Using your criteria, none of the romances count except for Iron Bull and Josephine because they are all restricted in some way.
Have I told you about my ship obsession lately Shepard? Let me do that.
Well, he is a pilot.
You should not feel guilty about it. Enjoy all three of your options! They all seem pretty damned cool. And then, afterwards, we can bond over how awesome IB is for both of us!

The same thing could be said about any player not choosing to play as a certain type of protagonist. You're choosing not to play as a woman at some point, so you're choosing not to indulge in Cullen's romantic content. Or Sera's. Or as a female elf, so you won't get Solas's romantic content.
Everyone has 8 romance options. Everyone. It's just a matter of who you choose to play as.

I personally have every intention of playing through all the romances, straight or otherwise. But I'm bisexual. A gay person would have to go against their orientation to get Cullen, or Solas. As would a lesbian to get Cassandra. That's not the same thing as just choosing to not playthrough Solas' romance because you have to be an Elf to do it. A fictional race.

Also, straight men have the advantage in lesbian romances by having two attractive women to look at.

Well everyone can chose to play female elf if they want to though? It doesn't mean Solas is more open to me as female qunari players than he's to some who plays opposite sex.
I just hate to be forced to play something I don't want to. If Solas wasn't so restricted players wouldn't need to force themselves. Now only those who planned elf female or don't mind one playing as one are happy.
Hey, Cortez's story gave me the feels. It wasn't that bad.
I will probably get reamed by hardcore Kaidan/mSHep fans but I prefered Cortez/mShep. People grieve in their own way.
I thought the mSHep/Cortez dynamic felt far more real than Kaidan/mShep ever did.
Plus the banter Cortez says between missions with mSHep was sweet and sexy.
The mSHep/Kaidan romance was essentially the SAME dialogue as it was with femShep. Had their been some more differences to it, I would probably think differently.

Tell you what, since no love interests particularly stands out for me, I might as well go with an idea I had and make my first character bi, just for the heck of it. That should be fun. I've always been a fan of Julius Caesar, and I can hardly think of a better foundation to base a character on ![]()

I hear what you're saying. I'm heterosexual female, and I also have every intention of playing through all the romances. It will feel weird to play as a male protagonist, but I plan to make him hot so I have something nice to look at. And also, a lesbian Inquisitor. I'm so not a lesbian, but I still want to see what Sera has to offer.
The difference is that a lack of options for a gender/sexuality results in less representation for a real world demographic. Being forced to play another gender or sexuality to have options is nowhere near the same as being forced to play a difference fictional race. Solas is an option for straight women. The fact that you have to change to an imaginary race is irrelevant to the fact that he is available to straight women. If he was available to only gay male elves, there is literally no way I would say we didn't get an extra option. I would be positively floored that we did. Like, it's difficult for me to even describe how amazed I would be if a game developer did for me what other people are writing off as something that "doesn't count". That's what majority privilege is.

Alright, you don't want to play an elf. I can understand that. I know that means you can't have Solas. And I know that sucks.
But please don't pretend that's the same as having to go against your orientation to see the content. It's not.

But does extra options for one group automatically mean other groups are shorted?

It means they get less options than that group, yes.

But don't you think it's more like real life that way? I seriously wanted to date my smoking hot male coworker, turns out he's gay. Damn, oh well, that's life! Plus, even if he was hetero, that doesn't mean he's particularly attracted to me, anyway. Maybe he'd prefer a tall blonde chick instead of a short brunette.
Too be honest I have role played diffident characters for dragon age before but I Never brought my self to play a Gay Male I had male and female Warden and Hawks ( preferred Fem Hawk).
I doubt I will play A Gay male Inquisitor not every one can play every sexual orientation and I don't think there anything wrong with that.
but I loved the friendship route with Corteze and my Male Shepard hope there's something like it with Dorian and the bull.
and there only two confirmed Heterosexual options i'm Interested in not feeling it for Vivienne maybe because she seem's so similar to Morrigan and I've been there.
It means they get less options than that group, yes.
But that turns representation into a numbers game, which I don't think is the right way to approach it.
But does extra options for one group automatically mean other groups are shorted?
That's kind of what extra means?
I'm super excited for IB! I think he'll have a captivating story on all levels
I've never got more than 5 minutes into a game as a male when there was a female option available, but I'm really excited to see Dorian's content so I'm going to give it a go in Inquisition too
would be a bit silly of me to be so pleased about the inclusion of gay and lesbian companions and yet not explore all the related content
I feel the same way about Iron Bull. I think that there are several aspects of his personality that I'm completely fascinated by: his hedonistic ways, despite being adherent to the Qun; his PTSD; his relationship with a Tal-Vashoth Inquisitor. Regardless of romance, he's shaping up to be an amazing character and I'm hoping that the romance let's us dig a little deeper into the character.
And I also feel the same way about female characters as you do with male characters. If I can play as a gay male, then female characters are off the table for me. I'll usually do one playthrough (or try to anyway....) with a female and then all of the previous and subsequent characters will be gay males. The only exception to this for me was Skyrim because the only fantasy demographic that less represented than lady dwaves as "The Hero" are lady orcs. I just had to make my Dovahkiin a bad-ass lady orc! (And, now I make all of my characters gay orc adventurers with husbands and children waiting at home for them
)
