Removing one of the features that makes the series, and all Bioware titles for that matter, unique because people on the forum argue about it too much?  Sorry, I don't get it. 

Well its a good thing I am powerless over the series.  I wouldn't want ANY of my fans/supporters to feel alienated. It seems this won't stop so I would stop it.  We are all gamers or we wouldn't be here to adding more content would make everyone happy.

 

Some of these arguments and comments you shake your head at or whatever...but every side does make valid points here and there.  Its definitely a heated issue and you can see the hidden animosity some people have and try to hide too.  I just see it as a negative thing now.  But I am glad for those that like the content that it will be there.

My best case is a straight or bi Blackwall. Actually my best case would be BW lying about previous LIs, but that's not going to happen.

I suppose I could see them doing five males and three females. Solas might be the Sebastian of DAI in that his romance is hardly a romance(if only because it doesn't exist for seven eights of the potential player base, not because it would lack content in and of itself).

 

Still, my gut feeling on this is that the fourth will be female.

 

Now, the real question is if they do go with another female LI, will the sides mirror each other with two straight, one bi, one gay, or will the ladies double up elsewhere?

This is the second time you use the "we are all gamers" line.  Yeah, I'm a gamer who enjoys the romance content in Bioware games.  I don't want that content to be removed and it doesn't make me any less of a gamer.  There's very little (I would even go so far as to say no) content that "would make everyone happy".

they are better people than I am.  after seeing all of this if i was in charge of DA4 I would just say screw it and do away with it.  Say it causes issues and problems and the community is better without it.

But...romance is part of the game. A romance quest is not that different from any other quest, and it can be an even dicier proposition this time around because there is no approval, and no gifts (or limited gifts). If anything, companion relationships could be one of the most challenging things to get right in Inquisition, considering the various types of choices we'll be making and how our companions tie into the major plots. Removing those would be shortsighted and eliminate something that  a lot of people truly enjoy and appreciate, especially when they could have probably cut way down on complaints and drama if they'd just info dumped romances at the outset and been done with it.

 

And you're acting like romances are the only thing that make people lose their **** wrt BW games. Look at Scuttlebutt right now. Look at all the keymashing rage directed at BW for the 8 abilities decision. Go back and look at all the paranoid threads about the PC UI, or hair. If they decided to abandon certain elements because it causes issues and problems in the community, then their game would essentially be nothing more than a nug simulator narrated by Sandal.

I really hope so. I mean it's pretty silly how this is being kept under wraps like it's an earth shattering plot revelation.

Yeah, but you can't please everybody no matter what you do.  Removing features from the game isn't the answer... it would only encourage fans of that content to seek it elsewhere.  Since there's no guarantee that this would increase sales in any way, how does that help the company or the fanbase?

 

I mean, there's a lot of animosity on the surface of mage vs. templar debates... would you have this plotline removed as well?  Qun vs. Chantry?  Traditional vs. surface dwarf values?  Every issue will create conflict, so where do you draw the line?

I could see them having a 5-3 split since it's already an uneven distribution in favor of male characters.  Plus, if Solas and another guy (Cullen) are the race-gated ones, then it wouldn't cause as much of an unbalance in options.

I don't really understand how Gaider and Allan's comments about gating distribution balance against each other, either. I think they may just be creating tag-team mayhem behind the scenes.

Yeah, just like every other social and political conflict in the DA series... romances are not the only thing people disagree over.

Also, you do realize that if you replace it with something you are just going to double the complaining, right?  You'll still have the "should we have romances or not" arguments, but you'll just get a whole new thing for people to complain about.  It would actually do the opposite of what you want.

How is it favoring male characters?; in the race gating thread(now on page 2),as of right now without knowing the other race gate, every straight character and every gay character all have two options, except for straight female elves who have three options. And all bi characters have three options, except for bi female elves, who have four options.

 

So right now the only demographic that can be accused of favoritism is female elves.
