I agree that they should focus on having LGBT characters/romances, but I think all of the comparisons people make to real life little people makes them less imaginary as they could be. A lot of people base their dislike of dwarves on the basis of being short and stocky, etc, which are traits that real life people can also have. I'm sure that while uncommon, there are also people with kind of close to the same body type of Dragon Age dwarf.

It's not like we're talking about having wings or snakes for hair.

I think it's questionable to compare them to actual little people in real life, but I do support there being more dwarf romances, generally.

But I also think it's not a good justification that gay men have only had 8 options across Bioware games, while there have been mid-30s options for straight men and mid-20s for straight women, because there haven't been any dwarves. If we'd lost an option even so they could add a dwarf, maybe there'd be something to it. But no. Still just another normal height character for straight people.

It's not enough for lesbians, and they're also a minority. I care for them, you know?

Wait, I think I'm missing something here... lesbians would have Sera and Josephine, straight men would have Cassandra and Josephine, straight women would have Iron Bull, Cullen (no qunari of dwarves though) and Blackwall (possibly Solas), gay men would have Iron Bull, Dorian, and Blackwall... so basically you are saying you don't care about straight men.  They also have 2 choices... well, whatever.  Since somebody will lose either way, I think it's more than fair, but I guess you are free to disagree.

Of course. My point was that there are people who identify with or relate to dwarves (you could ask in the Varric thread for examples), and for that reason, they should not ignore dwarf romances as much.

yes, I don't care that much about straight men, because they got a lot of LI's in previous games, whereas lesbians and gay people got the short end of the stick very often.

Lesbians would have only one companion romance though, and let's not kid ourselves, no one would want long distance relationship if they had a choice in this regard...

I think it does suck that straight men would get less. I want everyone to get the same amount of options. But try to consider that straight men have gotten over three times as many options over Bioware's history than lesbians. It's a compound issue. Again, I'm not saying I want straight men to get less, but it's just not the same situation when they do.

That's fair. I can relate to that. I hope Bioware will add a dwarf romance next time. Hopefully a bisexual one, so as many people as possible can access it.

That's the same for straight males too though, right?

To all of you who responded to my question:

I think all of your viewpoints are valid. I think I would be more fine with straight females having two extra options if that means that two of them will be race gated. I know that some will disagree (and I understand why) but idk, it doesn't feel as extremely unfair as it would have been without the race restrictions. It's still wrong, it's just the lesser of two evils.

But on the other hand, I would be one of the lucky women with four LI's. That makes me biased (even if I at the moment have little or no interest in Solas and Cullen. But that's MY decision and I can change my mind when I meet them in game). I am aware of that.

And once more: I never wanted us straight females to have more options, I feel terrible about it. I would be fine with a gay Blackwall, and even though I want to romance him I do not want him straight. I'm hoping that the last romance turn out to be anything but straight.

You missed the part where some posters simply do not care how straight males are effected.

I think we probably all agree that in an ideal world everyone would have equal options. However, since we know they won't be equal, people who have been catered to their whole lives (straight men and straight women, to a lesser extent) missing out probably wouldn't be so bad.

I changed my mind. I think Vivienne is the last romance (she's going to be bisexual). Cassandra or Vivienne will be gated to whichever race(s) for whatever reason.

This way, everyone has two companion romances, and some gender pairings have an extra advisor romance.

yes, I'm all for equal options, but since they won't give them to us in this game, I support more homosexual options.

There's sadly no way they could go about the last LI without giving straight women (and quite possibly straight men) more options than gay men or lesbian women. Again.

Really, this is why I'm skeptical of the diverse sexualities thing so many people want. It always benefits straight people more. No wonder why I see so many straight people asking for the removal of all bisexual - they almost got the same amount of options in DA2, for once!

Straight men have Cassandra as an LI though, so it's still a bit more preferential treatment considering that as everything suggests she's going to be a big deal in this game like she is in DA franchise in general already, while Sera appears to be more of a sidekick who we probably could even not recruit at all and it would change nothing.

What's this retroactive bullshit you're trying to pull here? I thought this was about equality, not shifted imbalance.

We still don't know that though.

But i'll be kinda pissed off if that's the case.

Well, considering we already know that there won't be equality this go around, all we can do IS shift the damn imbalance.

I don't think that's the case for most posters. Most LGB posters I've seen favor equal options across the board. Most of us don't want Bioware to start taking away options from straight people to make up the gap that exists. We want it to be water under the bridge and move forward with equal options for everyone.

But that's not happening. Bioware keeps making the options unequal.. and LGB players keep taking the hit. If there are going to be unbalanced options, it's not the same when straight players keep getting those slots. Straight men have over three times as many options to them, to date, as lesbians. The same is true for straight women over gay men, over three three times as many. I'm not saying I'm happy if straight people get less, or that I don't care that they're disappointed, but it's just not the same situation. You've had three times as many options. Sharing the extra slots for a change is not really asking that much, I think, if Bioware refuses to make things even, which is all most people are asking for.

You forgot (or left out) Iron Bull.  He's into ladies as well as men.  No race gating.

I don't plan on playing as a qunari so I left out Iron Bull.

I'm OCD on having human & human, elf & elf ect.

Iron Bull isn't much of a character I'd want to romance anyways so again thats why I left him out.  ^_^

Though you also said you only play lesbian romances, so that doesn't seem to count for much.
