What's being said is that, if Bioware insists on making equal options, what's fair is to mix up who gets the extra ones. I don't believe what LGB players actually mean is that they want to keep getting those options until the 8 options gay men have gotten catch up with the mid-30s options that straight men have gotten. I think what we mean is that they start changing it out every time. So, last time straight women got Sebastian. This time it could have been gay men to get Solas, maybe then straight men, then lesbians, then straight women again. What's being said is that, as long as Bioware insists on making extras, equality in the long term means switching who gets the extra options across their releases.

Thanks for clarifying, Morte. I think the best option for me right now is to stay away from the cesspool that Tumblr's DA:I tag is becoming.

I need to find another analogy because otherwise this will be post version no, 3,000 over the same ground.

(this analogy does not play well to vegetarians, just getting that out there...)

BioWare goes to buy a bucket of fried chicken from the chicken shop for 4 people, 1 gay, 1 lesbian, 2 straight (1 of each gender).

Looks in the bucket of chicken, there's enough chicken for two pieces each, but then there are 2 (maybe three) more pieces to share.

As the gay guy looks at his two pieces he sighs -

again? why am I always left with less chicken?

On past ordersI I sometimes had one pieces and sometimes none at all...

They look at BioWare who say:

hey, we were focusing on how tasty each piece is, not counting the numbers,

it's great chicken...

Doesn't mean the person with the least chicken isn't disappointed (again)...

We've all been there. There was one too few bags of fries, the coleslaw was missed out,

or maybe you got a tiny piece of chicken when the other person got a big juicy piece.

You're not going back to the chicken shop just for one piece of chicken

and it won't put you off having chicken again, but it's annoying and it's not right.

Ok - the chicken bucket is a little short, we need to deal with that.

But next time anyone goes down the chicken shop, please make sure everyone gets an equal share....

OH GOD IS THIS A WORD PROBLEM?

I think we probably all agree that in an ideal world everyone would have equal options. However, since we know they won't be equal, people who have been catered to their whole lives (straight men and straight women, to a lesser extent) missing out probably wouldn't be so bad.

Personally, I find the argument that because someone was born a certain way(as straight males/females are) that they should be excluded from content due to 'history' a fairly weak argument. That's reverse discrimination, an abhorrent practice in my view.

Bringing a history of discrimination or being 'catered to' into the equation is a weak argument in my opinion, as it automatically assumes something about people who can not help the way they were born, and punishes them retroactively for the sins of society, rather than their own. All this does is create more hate and anger, rather than healing and understanding. It enflames entitlement and defensiveness on both sides, rather than bring a sense of mutual understanding and honest, constructive discussion.

This is my humble opinion, subject to my own preconceptions and background. As a flawed human being, I lay no claim to its infallibility. Simply a perspective worth considering, I hope.

There are many proponents for Blackwall to be a love interest as well. I just mentioned Vivienne because statistics seem to be in her favor.

I think Blackwall and Vivienne need to be left out.

Blackwall would be like getting into a relationship with Duncan.

>let's not trust the researchers whose job it is to look at this

Actually animal intelligence is the hardest thing to research and verify.  A lot of it is educated guesses since we can't actually get into an animals mind.

Assuming anthropomorphic feelings in an animals actions is just as faulty as assuming an animals actions cannot possibly have similar motivations as our own.

Both make assumptions based upon unprovable evidence, and are assumption without facts.  It's deciding without research.  Is just bad science to go with either assumption.  Until we understand the mind more, either assumption is bad.

Just because someone researches something doesn't make them all knowing on said subject.  Especially the unknowable.

Look guys... I know how to solve this problem.

We need an elf, a duck, and a lion....

You're in luck, I cut some corners and found a ducklion.

someone else will have to raid an Alienage for an elf though.

So since whatever bioware decides to do with Baldy and Grumpy won't solve the problem, lets talk about the other romances shall we?

Let's start with Doriando Fabulosa. Anyone else not like his hair?

Because of his age, I'm guessing?

Ok. I'm going to figure this out. No one have any fear.

If you take Solas and divide him by 2, you get a duck. Substitute the duck for Blackwall and find the y-intercept of Vivienne's lion. Use that to find the slope (m) of Solas' head. Plug those coordinates into the graphing calculator and you get a (homosexual) dwarf.

Actually, I didn't like ANYTHING about Dorian at first, but since hearing little tidbits... Well, I've grown fond of him.

In meat space, I can find someone physically unappealing at first but then find them to be incredibly attractive if I enjoy the person's company a great deal.

I'm weird like that. It leaked over into gaming, and now I think Dorian is beautiful despite him being a far cry from my "type."

Personally I think general acceptance is all that can really be expected without turning the pursuit of equality into a witch hunt. In our world which I would describe as miles more tolerant and good natured then the past, there's still a lot of pockets of hate for all folks, but now these people are more or less pushed into the margins, enough that it doesn't affect peoples lives on a day to day, hyper oppresive fashion. It allows for a diversity of thought and ideas, while also protecting folks from oppression and cruelty.

Hatred isn't pushed into the margins of today's society. That's why black men are often being gunned down by police, the teen suicide rate for homosexuals is through the roof and women still make less on the dollar than men. We've still got a long way to go before we can say bigotry isn't affecting people's day to day lives. It definitely still is.

That's so true.

The BioWare Forum (strange as it may sound) is a delightful tea party compared to many of the vile threads elsewhere on the internet...

He has macklemore hair, and a 1900's style mustache and goatee. It makes me want to push him aside and go "No I don't want to listen to your stupid indie band."
