Could you explain this a little more? Were those games allowed to run on steam again? Was there any service charge? I only bought Skyrim through Steam. I guess that's why I never noticed this issue. I disabled Steam because when it was running it would take over and update anytime it chose, regardless of how I tried to set it up. I remember the instructions were vague and I had to focus more time on fussing with steam than I felt I should. So Skyrim was the only game I ever bought from them. I do feel EA is or was at that time easier to use. The only real problem I've had with EA was when my Dragon Age 2 download omitted the code to access some of the bonus material. Fixing this was time consuming and complicated. I feel both companies really have serious customer service issues.
But I know now especially not to buy EA games through Steam if I should ever be tempted. Does it do this scanning with games from GOG?
I don't really understand the whole question here, but I'll try to address as much as I can.
Firstly, games brought from GOG will never be scanned by Origin. GOG also does not sell new EA games; they only sell older EA games like Dungeon Keeper. Steam on the other hand, isn't equipped with anything to scan, as far as I know. The only thing that it is capable of scanning is hardware.
I have my grievances with both services. Steam is flipping slow and have very poor store regulation. Steam store is now flooded with very sub-par games and unfinished games in the guise of 'early acess'. Origin does not have these problems, but they suffer from poor service and very low functionality.

- Does things I do not approve of. Such as scanning my games and automatically making them require Origin to run. (ME2, etc)
Um... no. I have the disc version of ME2 installed and I also have Origin. Origin does not force me to tie ME2 to it. I run it without installing it on Origin. Not sure how you got that idea.

Very simple. Origin scans your computer and looks in your files all the time, Steam does not do it, and if it does, it needs your premision Origin however, if you don';t agree to that term you can't play your game. So ya, it's not lolbandwagon. People don't like other people, more so companies looking inside their computer and doing who knows what with the info.
They're selling it.
That's what all companies do to your private information, it's a nice little commodity...

Hey if some guy at EA wants to get all hot and bothered at my hentai, he can go ahead but he might get fired.

It would probably be the people that they sell it too that will get hot and bothered.

I want to buy the game, but I don't want to deal with steam. It would have been awesome if it's on Origins though. Anyway, is there a way for me to play the game on anything besides steam? I'm not a fan of reconnecting to it every 24 hours.
Actually, if you wish to play a Steam game offline permanatly, there are workarounds to make that happen. They are *not quite* legal, however, so can't talk about that right here. It also depends on the copy protection used. If CEG is used, it will make things more difficult. If there are additional DRM layers included, like Uplay or rockstar club..etc.. then these workarounds are near impossible.
