Sorry, Vancian casting is the Baldur's Gate style of only being able to fit so many spells into your head at once.

In BG it is tied to the lore. Plain and simple. In DA it is not, since DA:O and DA2 says otherwise. + the game has mana points.

Nothing to be sorry about. Not your fault I didn't know the word. Thanks for teaching me it, though.

I am also saddened and disappointed that our PC RPG has been "consolized".

Since Bioware is no longer interested in giving us the PC experience that we fell in love with in Dragon Age: Origins, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the mod-community will be up to the challenge -- if they can salvage DA:II, I'm confident that somebody, somewhere will be able to save DA: Inquisition.

preparation in the witcher is down to potions and blade enhancements, not something ridiculous like "you can only use one sign per batlle cuz we said so"

Yep - and the witcher wasn't arbitrarily limited to which potions he could drink or which signs he could use because they weren't on the hotbar.

It's always optional. You'll just have a harder time against enemies.

This, so bloody simple.

Laidlaw said that you need to plan not that the game will rape you with a chainsword if you do not .

Fair enough. I don't particularly care about lore reasons so I'll just concede DA has already established this isn't the case.

As a a pc gamer(with a sweet rig if i do say so) I don't really care about the 8 abilities only thing. I was disappointed at first, but now I dont care. After seeing the shitstorm and the arguments on both sides I just cant bring myself to care about it. I think the game is going to be super fun to play, 8 abilities or no.

Oh and btw, all the rage is still hilarious, so props for making me laugh.

So the option is to either do as you are told, or deliberatly gimp yourself.

i am personally tired of modders having to do half the work of game devs.

I love that PC gamers are making this about them.

BOTH consoles and PC could select all abilities in Origins and DA2. Now BOTH can't.

This isn't about consoles.

I find this to be the case in most RPGs, honestly.

Yes it has. They have gone a 180 on the rules they themselves set in the previous games. Wich means the lore and the codex is now useless.

It could be. Maybe they decided that having to go through all those options on the controller was annoying so they gimped it whearas clicking on an ability is super simple on pc. And then they decided they wanted the same thing on pc so they could label the change for "gameplay reasons."

Didn't notice Sandahl in DA2, did you? His "not enchantment" scene.

What - did the radial menu suddenly become too cumbersome to implement? Why not implement a quick menu a la Skyrim instead? It's not as elegant, but it works.

You can't swap them out during the battle? Are you sure this is the case, because that's a major shift in design for the game.

. Why should you have to? You didn't forget how to cast your other spells when combat started

Can't swap them during battle. Also if you have non-mapped abilities set up in your Tactics, the game will skip those during that combat. You can't use anything outside the 8 mapped abilities.

Or it could be because they wanted to support the more "actiony" play style which is probably more likely.

That's correct. The radial menu and tactics also lock out abilities that aren't the selected 8.

So they spent all that time on the tactical camera to make the game more actiony...?

yup now do you see the issue? If you get into a fight your 8 spells aren't good enough for tough luck, have to waste extreme amount of unnecessary resources, die and/or have to reload a save.
