You can't swap them out during the battle? Are you sure this is the case, because that's a major shift in design for the game.
yes, no radial menu for other spells, no swapping out, no using tactics that use spells not selected

So they spent all that time on the tactical camera to make the game more actiony...?
You got it. Or perhaps an earlier poster was on to something when he suggested that the multi-player feature had everything to do with the restrictions.
it's been awhile since I seen "pre-ordered cancelled" said in a serious manner. To be fair, I don't pre-order often, I usually wait till reviews are out to determine if I get the game or when I will get the game.
I think OP could wait till reviews and videos of gameplay come out.

They said both are viable and to do that you need less options to choose from so you can use them quickly without pause.
videos of gameplay is allready out.
You got it. It does make one wonder.
I think they made it that way for other reasons as well.

It is most definitely the case. You can only adjust your toolbars out of combat. Which is horseshit.

It makes me wonder why the supposition was that the limit is to make things more actiony, sure. It makes me wonder why people are supposing every reason under the sun except what BioWare has actually said, sure.

Yes. It is all part of their master plan of subterfuge and confusion, it is a very old Russian tactic called "maskirovka" Or "masked warfare" the goal is to win the war by putting yourself in as advantageous a position as possible before you even send in troops.
Its probably too late for us hardcore pc people, the maskirovka has been in affect for years now.

What videos?
Didn't notice Sandahl in DA2, did you? His "not enchantment" scene.
Last time i checked Sandal is an oddity without explanation (and that "not enchatment" could mean literaly anything).
Him being a mage is one.

I don't think any decent gameplay videos will come out soon enough.
Breaking news: There will be microtransactions in DA:I.
just multiplayer correct?

EA owning Bioware. Easy assumption to make.

Indeed it is,I predict people will be posting character builds and skill sheets that are effective against all enemies because of this.
This reminds me somewhat of "a return to old AD&D style" play.
Remember that in the "first edition" of AD&D, after the original D&D, mages could study (and then use) X spells per day, based on player level. Spell levels ("spell power" roughly) were 1 to 7, with 7 being a spell level that took, iirc, a 15th level mage to cast.
Low-level mages were pretty damn weak, and required you to protect them. I forget exactly what player level was needed to cast 8 total spells per day, though. Would have to drag out my old Player Handbook. Get that mage up to level 12 or so and then they start to become a force of their own, but by that level the total spells per day was considerably higher than 8.
Those complaining that you can't choose other abilities during a fight should take note.
Its at least an improvement over AD&D, where you had to wait until the next day to switch spells. ![]()
I'll wait to see what shakes out though.....
What videos?
The ones they have released so far has some gameplay in them.
Can't swap them during battle. Also if you have non-mapped abilities set up in your Tactics, the game will skip those during that combat. You can't use anything outside the 8 mapped abilities.
Ok, now I understand the fuss. It's almost reminiscent of how you have to prepare in Witcher, but I'm not sure it'll be a good thing in DA.
videos of gameplay is allready out.
Those (few) videos are in a controlled environment and/or played by employees.

If one is already supposing BioWare is lying to them, then there's no good faith discussion to be had on this topic.

Dragon Age doesn't follow the d&d rules. Completely different system. DA:I just went a 180 on its own system, lore, and rules. that is where the problem lies.
...

Only useful if you trust the reviewer. Most reviewers these days are either marketing wannabes or they crap on every game to be funny. I prefer the funny ones, but neither group provides much in the way of useful information. A few, like Angry Joe, try to be honest and useful, but you gotta know who you're dealing with before taking a reviewer's recommendation, especially if you're paying full price at or soon after release.

System and rule can be changed however bioware want without explanation.
The only change that need an explanation are the one regarding the lore and this situation do not involve the lore.

Baldur's Gate 2 loading screen: Says you can import your character into Neverwinter Nights, and that the story would continue in that game. Wasn't true.
Witch Hunt DLC - promised to reveal Morrigan's secrets and plans. Revealed nothing.
Mass Effect 3. At least 16 endings. You got 3.
Mass Effect 3. All your choices would matter and affect your ending. It didn't.
Mass Effect 3. Multiplayer would not affect SP in the slightest. It did.
I can name more, but there you go. They do say alot that doesn't turn out to be true.
