Really? Compare modern BioWare to old BioWare and then to CD Projekt Red. Where is the most crossover? Wait until Cyberpunk comes out and people see how truly god awful Mass Effect 3 was.

But this game's rep was positive and that was a very hard work to achieve after the above mentoined lapses. And this is the first thing that can blow up, and can darken the game's reputation. This limit is stupid from this angle too.
So, you acknowledge that the game has been building a positive rep despite past errors, but use this one issue as justification to scream 'The sky is falling'?
Again, I wish you well and have enjoyed your presence on the forums.
I just wish BioWare would change their name. This is not the same company who made Baldur's Gate; if this was Dragon Age Inquisition by EA Edmonto it wouldn't be so annoying to me. Give the BioWare name over to CD Projekt Red or something.
So you want to give Bioware's name.....to a company that makes a third person action-RPG that bears no resemblance to the Baldur's Gate series.....do I have that about right?

The even sadder part is I'll likely still buy this game.
....do you know how companies, and for that matter most of culture, work? People change and develop over time. Sometimes in bad ways (Metallica), sometimes in good ways (Green Day). Picasso didn't start doing his characteristic thang, and I imagine that when he did there were annoying gripers like you saying 'ugh, he isn't the same as when he started out, he should change his name to Bob'.
Also, saying that CD Projekt Red should have the 'title' of Bioware is ridiculous. Their single RPG has little to no character customisation, laughably bad dialogue, and takes the worst lessons from GRR Martin.

Laughably bad dialogue? Did you play Dragon Age 2?
And I'm aware that The Witcher isn't like Baldur's Gate; I think however the sense of customer support, care and thought that is put into the world and characters and overall design is far more similar than any recent BioWare atrocity.

8 actions restriction is a bad game design decision which in turn led to bad ability design decisions, like swiss knife actives and overwhelming number of passives, both of which actually take away from tactical side of things.
Another thing why 8 ability restriction is bad is that it's not a pervasive mechanic. Usually, when the game attempts a LAS, player hits the limit very fast, can make a fully-functional deck very fast, and unlocking more abilities lends increasing amounts of strategic options, increasing amount of roles your character can fulfil with just a switch of a deck. In DAI, you probably won't even get to unlock your 9th ability until 2/3 of levelcap. Player don't get to learn that restriction, to feel it, it just hits him/her in the face upon one happy level-up process. "No, you can't use any more actives on your bar. Why? Because!".

1. ESO is an MMO and not a party based RPG
2. ESO had a LOT of other problems that killed the joy for me personally long before I reached lvl 10
3. The level cap (last i checked) in DAI is 20
I think the level cap is 30 now. But now on the subject. I can live with this design and it changes a way that person has to now think on how to prepare for battle differently than the previous 2 games. But to cancel a pre-order because of the new layout is rediculous.

I think 8 is a lot to be honest.. really.
I probably won't even use that many lol
I used five throughout all of DA:O as a two-handed warrior.

If the game is balanced around having 8 active skills at once, then adding more slots only for keyboard and mouse controls could've made game way too easy. Also, having more keybinds doesn't mean there is more "skill" involved. Besides, ability bloat is never a good thing. Having limited number of slots will actually force people to think about what they want and need to use, creating some sort of "builds" (similar to Diablo 3).

Except the Mustang is an improvement...obviously. Just like Dragon Age Origins was an improvement in many ways over Baldur's Gate. The last two BioWare games were turds.
I agree with some of the sentiments above. Part of the reason I'm so bothered is because Inquisition WAS looking promising up until this. They almost had convinced me their last two games were simply flukes and their problems were the fault of EA, not them. But alas, that clearly isn't the case. The game is still pretty and the story could still be good, but if you're going to dumb it down...don't make it an RPG at all. Make it a "friendship simulator" or whatever it is most modern BioWare fans like about BioWare.

Considering The Witcher series is far more action-oriented than Dragon Age will ever be, I fail to see what you're getting at here, especially in the context of this thread.
It's not about that. And it is not an endeavor. I am just terribly disappointed on this thing. I have my reasons.
It could be playing out good, if the system is well tought-out. If "all" or lots of the companion skills are having an effect on each other, so you can combine a lot of them, and you can level the companions and yourself on purpose to be able to do so, its good. In this case, the 8 skill limit adds a long term tactical depth to the recipe, which i like. BUT. I don't think this is the case and its true. Its just my fanboy side imagination.
Wait why don't you think that's going to be the case? Cross-class combos are a big thing, and Laidlaw specifically mentioned enforcing party roles as a reason for the 8 ability limit. This game is going to be all about using party abilities together.
"It could work if well-executed" is all the people tentatively in support of this are saying, guys. No one is saying that the 8 ability thing will work if poorly executed. That to me sounds like the issue with the ESO example: the skills weren't well balanced. IF BioWare balances the skills well and IF the enemies are as unique as they appear to be, then you could actually end up using more abilities than you did in the first two Dragon Age games because more abilities will be relevant.
t;;dr is that we really don't know how this will play out until it's released, which is why some people are getting frustrated with the line of "it's absolutely a terrible decision and nothing justifies it!" Concerns are understandable; that is not.

Actually the interaction with companions in DA2 was one of the highlights of the game. I came away loving that crew despite my issues with the game. By the end of TW2 I wanted all of these people to go away.
I am going to have to disagree with you about the thought put into the world and characters. You see, The Witcher is based off a book series so the world was already laid out for CD Project Red. Bioware made Thedas and decided on how everything would work.
But alas, that clearly isn't the case. The game is still pretty and story could still be good, but if you're going to dumb it down...don't make it an RPG at all.
I'm sorry but you are not the authority figure about what is and is not considered an RPG. If you don't like the direction this Party focused RPG is taking, that is fine. By all means go to CD Projeckt Red and their Single character Action-RPG, that doesn't allow you to design your character beyond hair and beard styles.

Yes. Quite enjoyed it in fact. Not as good as Origins, but few things are. Don't know what your definition of laughably bad dialogue is, but while there were some bad moments there weren't terribly many. I mean, no Bioware game has ever been written half as well as any of the wide array of Shock titles, but I don't expect miracles.
Customer support? Care? Thought? Hardly. I agree it has a lot of nice ideas for a world, and gameplay to fit that world, but it executes them in a hamhanded and haphazard fashion. I'd probably accept the Witcher more if it wasn't trying so hard to be an expansive epic fantasy and was just some mildly interesting plot moments and mindless boning - dumb fun. But it takes itself seriously, and then it's like trying to play an MGS game - bad news all around.

Wait, so you're worried about the difficulty? Because you have LESS abilities, LESS ways to handle the situation, therefore it'll be easier?
Slightly puzzled by your logic here. Surely if you could spam every ability at your disposal into oblivion, that'd require less skill and careful thought than running into a situation you, perhaps, don't have the abilities for and thus need to carefully use what you've got to maximum effect. No?

I know if they removed the ability limit in Guild Wars 2 everyone would accuse them of dumbing the game down.
If one needs an example of ability limits done right, there's an example. ESO is apparently an example of it done wrong.
It's all about how well the combat system and game mechanics support it guys.

You can tell a more concise narrative when your protagonist is clearly defined. Also, the character is gender locked, which is a good thing in my opinion.

Ya I was supporting most of the stuff about the game before this so I am kind of worried now because this isn't just a small thing and they haven't explained everything clearly yet. All the gameplay videos I have seen looks pretty but now I realize why they have been using so few abilities, some mage fire attacks, a wall, earth shatter and that ability where they pull the enemy towards them. Its cause there are so few abilities and I feel like I got bored of looking at those few already.
I feel like I will get tired of seeing the same animations fairly quickly.

You can tell a more concise narrative when your protagonist is clearly defined.
A more concise narrative isn't necessarily better. It's just more concise. Hence the term.
What's got a better narrative, the concise single protagonist Twilight, or the sprawling multi PoV Dickensian epic Bleak House?

Because you would handle most enemies the same way, you wouldn't have more options to do deal with the enemy, instead you choose the few best attacks and just spam them.
