The Witcher deals more around dialogue, than action, actually. What I consider to be hack and slash games are games like Diablo. Everything is designed around combat.

I'm talking about the combat in game, since that's the only thing the UI deals with, the point of this thread, and the game is pretty much: roll, slash, (random sign), roll, hack. I'd argue Dragon Age is much more about RPGing whatever dialogue you prefer than the Witcher is, but that's not really the point of this thread.

Dude. I am female. And as a female I'm telling you I prefer playing male protagonists. Most writers aren't skilled enough to write female characters and they wind up like Hawke. Annoying, bitchy and generally a word I can't use on this site.

l.m.a.o.

You do know male and female Hawke are literally the same person?

Oh and you can choose Hawke's personality?

Why do I even bother smh.

So Dragon Age's mostly female writing team cant write a female character?

Look at the sort of the girls they're writing those characters for? The tumblr crowd. That's not the best representation of how your average woman think.

It's fair to say the Witcher's combat is action-oriented right? I think that's all that's being said and it's getting a little too non-Dragon Agey as a tangent.

Combat, by definition is action. But yes. It is action oriented. Most rpgs where you only control 1 character tend to be.

The UI designer is obviously pro-Templar.
Easier to kill/control Mages when they can't use many sustainables/attacks.

It could be like in DAO,passives/higher level unlocks more slots?

That would depends on the skill of the writers, not their gender :)

Very disappointed to see that you can only slot in 8 abilities.

Lol you may be right, this mostly impacts mages whose active abilities are their lifeblood unlike warrior type characters or rogues that just have high dodge chance. Squishy mages don't have enough options to deal with every situation.

And that is solved by being part of a team, where other characters are set up to cover one anothers weaknesses.

So how does that prove the female writers for DAI don't know what they are doing when thy write female characters?

What makes this bad is if your party is consistently forced to enter situations blind, forcing metagaming to ensure the more appropriate skills are slotted.

That's all well and good, but no one likes dead weight in the party.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't one of the stated goals of the game, to make exploring dangerous? That's why healing outside combat has been changed, to ensure that each time you move forward you are actually taking a risk.

Yes, we understand that, but we have little reason to believe we'll be forced to enter most combats blind. Again people are thinking about a game that doesn't support the ability limit.

The good way to do that would make enemies varied that need to be dealt with in different ways, the bad way would be to limit your options to deal with them and then force you to make optimal choices for all scenarios in your 8 ability slots instead of extremely optimal choices for certain scenarios.

and i still think that at max level we wont really have more than 10 active abilities to choose 8 from, half of which will be useless anyway

You won't enter most combat blindly. You can send scouts to get info for you, I belive.

If you're going into an area with Red Templars.....you have a general Idea of what you will be facing. Likewise if you know you'll be running into a lot of demons you can adjust accordingly. Each of the areas, so far shown, has been pretty clear about the threats you are likely to face. If you get caught by surprise, that's on you.

Technically this just spells out to you which abilities to pick, though. So its not like it is making the game more tactical (wich they claim was the intention behind it).

You forget that any given area isn't populated by a single type of enemy - and that's where the problem lies.

Considering you will be making general attack/defense plans based of known information and then adjusting to fit the ground, I don't think I agree with your assessment. That said, release day will make it clear one way or the other.

No I'm not forgetting that at all. But I am not particularly worried about wolves and bears when Mages and Red Templars are about. Also, Dragons all but announce themselves long before you fight them.
