At that price range I can only recommend Radeon R9 285 or Geforce GTX 760. Cards below them are a waste of money and you are better off getting a PS4.

Since Radeon R9 285 is faster than Geforce GTX 760, I would recommend getting the Radeon R9 285.

mentioned this three times now, 200 dollars is the budget, so if you know something thats better under 200 let me know

btw, why are cards below GTX760/R9 280/285 a "waste of money"? buying a card you dont need is a waste of money.

In my opinion If you cannot max the latest AAA PC games with a sub $200 card then they are a waste of money. If you are happy playing those games with a few settings turned down than $200 cards will do just fine otherwise don't expect max settings and solid 60 fps in those games with a sub $200 card.

I don't want a console and its not a waste of money if its an upgrade

thats illogical, your argument is "if you can't run it with the best settings why bother?" thats like saying "if you can't own a mansion don't bother buying a house because its a waste of money" everyone needs a place to live and most of us can't afford mansions

He's saying that spending 200 bucks on something that's already incapable of running today's games properly is a bad investment.

You'll get the most bang for your bucks in the 200-300 dollar segment. Buying something which is significantly better, and therefore lasts longer as well, is a much better investment - and cheaper in the long run too.

This is exactly what I meant. If you are already willing to spend $200 only spending $50 more will get you a much better product that will last you at least an extra year.

That's perfectly true. One can future proof stuff better if one spends more. If one can spend more. Can.

You or I may not care about an extra $50 here or there, but the OP has stated a budget, and may not realistically have the option to move up from that budget.

So the reasonable thing to do is point out that he may get better value from spending more if he can. But it's not reasonable to imply that he's stupid, or in the wrong, for not being able to shift from the budget that he stated in the OP.

Being helpful is great. Being condescending(*), well, that's its own reward.

(*)  Not pointing any fingers here.

It's not about being condescending at all, at least not for me. What I am trying to say to OP is that jumping from $150 to $200 won't make much difference. But $200 to  $250 or even $220 (and you can get $20 back by MIR, if you absolutely want to stick to $200) can make quite a big difference. That is what we are trying to say. OP is of course making his choice, so he will buy what he deems fit ultimately.

I'm sure he understands that. But telling him to spend an extra $20 is unhelpful if he simply doesn't have it to spend. In which case, let it go, say I.

I recommend the Savant omni tool, but if you want to buy Terran than get a Polaris.

@OP

Here you go:

http://www.ebay.com/...=item58b4be3989. Well within your $200 limit. Also, it's the 280X, which is pretty much 1.8-2x performance of the 750ti you are looking at.

Whatever the situation, I would definitely get a new PSU first - because that should last you a long time and several system upgrades.

Then use remaining budget for a second hand card if you can find one - or if you can't then buy new.

Personally I would get a second hand card at < ~£80 and upgrade again in a year or two in the similar price range. You don't need mind bogglingly powerful cards at the moment, especially for games like ME3, and I doubt DAI will require a monster machine - only if you would ever want to play something like Star Citizen maxxed out at 4k resolution on triple monitors in a couple of years - but then nothing at the moment would handle that anyway.

500W is enough for every singleGPU card. buy one from a quality brand (like for example BeQuiet, Seasonic, Enermax) and you shouldnt need a new PSU for the next 7+ years.
the R9 280X has 1 6pin and 1 8pin, but thats no problem for good 500W PSUs, they usually have 2 6/8pin connectors.
