Remember back while Destiny was in development and some people were claiming it would be better than Mass Effect?

I think the franchise your thinking of is Halo, and Sony payed a lot of money to market it on their platform since they really want their "Halo killer" but after release and the reception clearly shows Destiny is no "Halo killer".
They already have a halo-killer that's free to play and coming to Ps4.
Can you guess?
PLANETSIDE 2!!!!!!!!

Planetside 2 has already been out on PC for a few years and its no "Halo killer".
Bungie could teach BioWare (current) a thing or two about art direction.
That's one thing I'll give to the folks at Bungie. Destiny has a marvelous aesthetic about it. It's just too bad that there's not much substance beneath it. I do trust that BioWare will deliver on the art direction front in the new game though.
Bioware has delivered in the art direction ever since ME2. ME1 suffered from it, just like the Dragon Age games does, but ME2 and ME3 have a great art direction that helped to create the Mass Effect universe. No that I'm saying it's as good as Destiny or better, I have not played that game, only that I believe ME2 and ME3 have a great art.
Hopefully DAI will change that for the Dragon Age series. and ME'4' will keep the evolution is the ME series.
ME3's mulitiplayer is way better. WAY better. In fact Destiny stole many elements of ME3's MP. ME3 MP is awesome, especially on PC.
Destiny is no Mass Effect.
I wish there were some real similarities. If that were the case, I'd be playing Destiny now. As it is, nothing can scratch that Mass Effect itch I'm suffering.
Have you ever played the Deus Ex series?

Well to be fair, Destiny's story is better than ME3's.
I played a whole 10 minutes of Destiny Beta so I'm qualified to make that comparison.

I've played through the entire story in Destiny and it has no story what-so-ever, the writers for Destiny didn't even tried to make a compelling story. The writers in ME3 clearly put an effort in to their work and ME3 does have a decent story.

Apples and oranges? If you play shooters (especially Halo), you'll probably get your money's worth out of Destiny. If you enjoy RPGs, you might get your money's worth out of ME3 - if it hadn't been for the multiplayer, I would not have gotten mine. The campaign story, while certainly more detailed than Destiny, was badly written and I strongly disliked playing through it.
Essentially, ME3 was a failure to me from the RPG standpoint, but it succeeded in its multiplayer. Destiny ultimately failed at what it tried to be, a MMORPG shooter, but it's still a good shooter and I have enjoyed shooting bad guys with friends - am still enjoying it in fact, so I suppose, for my part, it is filling the void just fine, but I've got nothing against shooters or multiplayer, which might not be said of some people on these forums.
I will also say that the ME universe lends itself beautifully to what Destiny was trying to be. If Bioware chose to take the franchise in that direction, I believe they would succeed, but I doubt they will do it. I would love it if they did, other people not so much. So a lot of this comparison comes down to personal preference, which isn't fair to the merits (or demerits) of either game.
Having completed the Gears of War franchise, the original Halo franchise, the ME franchise, and Destiny (to this point), and enjoyed all of them thoroughly for different reasons, it irritates me on some level that people resort to bashing games that are compared to ME (erroneously), when ME is by no means above criticism itself.
Destiny was so ass. Wish I didn't get the digital copy. Would've returned it so fast. Biggest disappointment of the year.
Destiny had an interesting premise and concept behind it that missed the mark.
My issues with it are that, gameplay wise (and to an extent story-wise), it's essentially a reskinned Halo game.
The setting is interesting, but the story suffers due to the focus on the MP aspect of it the game. It's cool to have an fps-mmo, but that aspect sort of undercut the story.
Can be hard to tell sarcasim and being serious on the internet.I'm guessing PurpGuy was being facetious. He did mention his 10 minutes of playtime as the qualifying factor. If not...

Never understood why people are so quick to compare it to Halo. Other than the fact that both were created by Bungie, and due to that fact the gunplay is predictably similar. But that's where the similarities pretty much end imo.
For an FPS, Halo had a fleshed out and well told story (for the most part). Destiny's narrative would be considered atrocious in any genre, in any medium of entertainment. Definitely the most shallow gaming experience I've had in a long time.
