I would like to think indocitrnation theory is / was the plan all along -  but I feel the additional ending download killed that.

As such I still went / think Destroy is the best.

Synthesis - forcing my choice upon everything in the galaxy, genetically altering the galaxy is just a crazy violation of everyone and everything.

Control - no-one should have the capacity or that kind of power. What's to say some new crazy TIM shows up and takes Control from me? Best intentions or not, bad amount of power to wield.

So that leaves destroy...or more in particular, shooting spawn of reaper in the head until BioWare released the download to make that lead to an ending.

That's one bit I could never quite understand. The revelation that TIM might have been indoctrinated as far back as the FCW then raises the question of why TIM was allowed to actively oppose the Reapers in Mass Effect 2. The Lazarus Project is allowed to be followed through to completion, Shepard partially foils the abduction of Horizon's colonists thanks to Cerberus intel, TIM reveals the location of the Derelict Reaper and the IFF to Shepard, and then after retrieving the IFF Shepard jumps through the Omega IV relay and potentially blows the Collector base to smithereens. It just seems that for a thrall TIM had an awfully free hand to undermine various Reaper plots.

that is why the Indoctrination Theory still has water.

Shepard: Wait a minute, it's all coming back to me now...

[flashback]

Vigil: Saren is the most visible pawn, but I doubt he was the first...

Shepard: [smacks forehead]

IT exists because of all the plot holes and ass pulls in the story and the abrupt end to the story. So when when IT became an unmentionable, it was replaced with Bad Writing Theory.

This thread... There's something familiar about it.  It's like I've been here before, but it feels... different.

*You're indoctrinated!*

Indoctrination theories are like herpes. If you got 'em, might as well spread 'em around.

For some reason, he looks like a pedo. That hair helps enhance his pedo look.

So is this where we say that Shepard is really Patient N7?

Or N7 was the designation of the clone batch Shepard was born in aboard the ark ship, going through years worth of simulations to train for when it's time to actually fight the reapers, which have already been ravaging the galaxy for centuries. Maker, it burns.

Sovereign recognizes your value. You've... impressed it.

screen-shot-2012-03-16-at-8-08-10-pm.png

I AM SOVEREIGN, AND THIS STATION IS MINE.

The Citadel is my home.

The Citadel is part of me.

I control the Reapers. They are my solution.

Sovereign.

Meaning - Supreme Ruler.

'Geth' ship. Fully synthetic. I don't notice any mention of genetic goo falling onto the Citadel after ME1's events.

From beginning to end...

Like many others, I believe that IT is just wishful thinking.

However, some time ago, while reading about the IT, I had an idea. In my opinion, it would have been awesome, if the creators had made IT happen. Imagine if the reapers tried to indoctrinate Shepard and more importantly, the player the whole time (ME3 or entire trilogy). They would have started to sell the control/synthesis solution to Shepard from the beginning of ME3 or when they realised that Shepard is capable of destroying them. It would have had to be subtle, but convincing enough to make the player choose control/synthesis in the end, only to realise it was the wrong solution (during the final cutscene) and he had been indoctrinated.

If the player realised that they were bull*****ing him/her (by talking to various characters or getting alternative information elsewhere), (s)he would have chosen destroy and it would have been, in reality, the only choice to get rid of the problem.

I think that Bio should give the players more ways to fail in general, so that would have worked for me.

With Sovereign dead I guess there's only one thing left to do then.

Saren Arterius has been recovered. We can rebuild him.....

It does make me wonder though if Shep is indeed indoctrinated then why would he/she ever pick destroy?

Excellent point there Kenshen!

If Shep was indoctrinated he would probably be forced to do the Bann Teagan every time he tried to take step towards that tube.

Yes, but not the same version of IT that everyone else does. I have my own interpretation. Problem is, people think there's only one interpretation for IT.

Which goes something like this:

Ending is a dream/hallucination. Shepard picks destroy, resists indoctrination, wakes up on Earth. Reapers still there, game isn't over yet.

From a business standpoint, even if this were included in the original game, Shepard is dead in the other endings. They would not create content that only those who picked destroy, and had a high enough EMS to receive the ending. Which leads me to believe that what actually happened is not like I wrote in the above paragraph (the official IT interpretation).

What better way to end a game like this (to let the players decide what's best) than force some interpretation and go "Okay, this is how it ends. This is the canon ending. This is what really happened".
