I start this off by admitting I know next to nothing about modding.  Even with games like Skyrim that makes modding "easy" I still have found ways to mess up.  I have found that what little modding is done in ME3 goes well beyond my knowledge base.  All I want to do is add Ashley's hair to the choices so I can use it on my Shep.  However on how to do this is not explained very well at all if at all.

So I have found 2 different mods that I think do the same thing.  First one I would rather pass on since it requires me to always hit a numpad key to toggle the look.  The other has me change a file with ME3Explorer (or something named like that).  That part the directions was clear.  My problem is it then tells me to use Gibbed save editor to change some files but the instructions don't tell me how to do this at all.  I only have ever used Gibbed to add credits or change romance choices to avoid playing through the other games again.  I looked at every tab yesterday and couldn't figure out how to change these files or how to even find them.  Does anyone know of a FAQ on how to mod ME3 for dummies or maybe a walkthrough on how to use Gibbed for more than I have used it for?

I am at work so I don't know the name of the mod I found atm but the site for the mod did send me here

Any help would be great for this mod dummy

Make your changes in ME3 Explorer first (from memory, the Ashley hair mod, you need to use Meshplorer and import the new mesh onto the ProJessica mesh?) - don't forget to run the TOCbinUpdater on your game's PCConsoleTOC file (it'll be in your BIOGame folder.

Then open up Gibbed, and load the save you want to apply the new hairstyle to.

From there, go to the RAW tab, and under 3. Squad click on 'player'. In the right-hand pane, click on 'Appearance', and then click on Head Morph. Next to 'Hair Mesh', paste in BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_PROJessica.HMF_HIR_PROJessica_MDL. Then go down to Texture Parameters and click it. A little box should appear to the right, click this. In there you need to look for Hair_Diff. Click on it, and in the right pane, for value, paste in BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Global.HAIR_Long_Diff. Do the same for Hair_Mask. Paste in the same text. Once done, press ok. Then save, and save to career. Overwrite the save file that you're editing, and then you're done.

Start game, and if you've done it right, the new hair style should be in place when you load up the save.

Wow thank you Callisto I never would have figured that out.  I do have a few questions.  1.  Now that I have done this for the save I am using can I still import different head morphs and still have Ash's hair? 2. will this all save and I can restart a new game using this save as the import, ie finish a playthu and start another game and still have Ash's hair? Now if you could help me fix my ME2 face in ME3 I would have to petition you have you knighted!  Still thank you so much.

1. It would depend on what hair you have on the headmorph. If it's one that uses the ProJessica mesh then you're fine (although you might want to check the two texture parameter values to see if they need changing again), and Ash's hair will show up. If the headmorph uses a different mesh then you'd need to import the headmorph first, and then change the hair mesh - change the hair mesh to the ProJessica one mentioned above, and also change the two values in the texture parameters as mentioned above. Save, and done.

2. I'm not 100% sure on that one. Pretty sure when I've imported a NG+ before, you're still required to select your Shepard's appearance - even though, you're importing an existing Shepard. Seeing as none of the custom Shepard hairstyles use the ProJessica mesh, I would imagine that you'll need to redo Gibbed at the first opportunity. What you're best doing is exporting your existing Shepard's headmorph, and then as soon as you can, import this back into your new game. Someone helpfully informed me just a few days ago that if you press Alt + F4 when the 'saving game' flashes up during the initial intro movie at the start of the game, it creates a save that be used in Gibbed. Do this, and then import the headmorph into the save, and then save it. Go back into ME, and load your game from that save, and then it should as you if you want to restart the mission. Click yes, and the game will start the intro movie again, but this time, your headmorph will be used right from the start, so all of the cutscenes will have your Shepard, rather than the custom one that you'd ordinarily have set up.

Sadly, re ME2>ME3, I haven't gotten into that myself yet. ;)

Modding is such fun, and it doesn't take long to pick up. There are lots, and lots of talented people around that have made fantastic mods. There are plenty of tutorials around to help. If it's using mods, rather than making them, that you're looking to do, then basically Gibbed and ME3 Explorer will be what you need.

Have fun! :)

Load your me3 save and me2 save and it'll create a new save, it's what I use to keep the 1>2>3 face going, like so:
