Who is he? What is he? From what we know now, can we potentially decipher what his ultimate goal is? And just why is he doing it?

Well from what I read on the Wiki page. He is described as beyond arrogant and absolutely relentless as well as operating on a whole other level no one else can reach. Seems were are either dealing with either a demon or some guy with delusions of Godhood. OrI 'm totally wrong and he is far worse than a demon.

The last note from the Band of Three mentions the Forgotten One, singular, and not the plural we usually see. It may be nothing, but the Elder One and this Forgotten One could be connected.

the formless one or forgotten one by his main name (formless is a way for me to rember him part joke and forgetfullness) is a anchient demon similar to gaxkang and xexbex(disire demon from tahrone's quest) and ismael is also a powerful spirit of choice (as he claims) but popular theory is that he's also a forgotten one

Ahh..so if this is true, then the goal would to naturally be to be known and remembered?

After watching trailers, assume its a dragon.

 I thought that as well, but I'm guessing what we saw was just a pet of his and he was voicing over it.

more likly a pet cause dragon may be apex predators in mortal realm and highly intelligent but so incapable of speech

From the trailer we can "bond" with a dragon. So if the pc is the antithesis to this... elder one, then yes it is possible but i dislike making speculations fact on end. Interesting thought though

Well you said yourself Dragons are Highly intelligent, and maybe this threat also affects them as well and they are aware of that?

It might be we don't know everything about how Demons work in the Fade. After all, we're meeting several new demons this time.

My theory?

I think he's what inhabits the Golden City which was always Black according to Corphyeus.

 

He's what people THOUGHT was the Maker.

I don't think it's actually the Maker or whatever Andraste worshiped.

I think it's the thing which lives in the Black City, though.

Which we know is real because we see it in the Fade.
