The problem with that is that it doesn't really explain who Felassan was working for, and if it were Corypheus then why was everyone able to predict events before he was released?
Why all the prophecies acting like this was a plan that had been in motion for some time? Cory would have just woken up, and hadn't been able to do more than influence people to try and free him.
That works on the assumption Corypheus was as crazy or out of it as he seemed to be, if he had awareness from the weakening of the prison he may have set that all up ahead of time.
It may have all been part of a plan that Corypheus had made before doing anything, basically we really don't "know" anything about Corypheus, what he was saying was true, his perspective, or just made up.
What his plan or plans were, whether or not Hawke won because he was better or Corypheus simply let him because it served his needs for people to think he was dead.
The events of the DLC w/Corypheus are as up in the air as just about everything else is in dragonage.

After finishing Masked Empire, I'm totally rooting for the Elder One.

Maybe he did, while he slept he wandered the fade and interacted with people, slowly making his moves, while his tainted body did it's thing, by calling to grey wardens and such.
But when he woke he was confused after centuries of sleep that happens if you have slept for so long, but as the fight with Hawke went on he remembered his plans and made his escape.

Still, none of this seems to explain what connection the Elder One has been Red Lyrium and the Primeval Thaig, and there does seem to be some connection...

Part of the issue here is that we have no real idea what red lyrium is or exactly what it does, short of granting insanity and anime boss powers. Perhaps its vastly increased power allowed the Elder One to breach the Veil? Perhaps it's actually totally unrelated to the overall plot, but simply exists as a new, disruptive element in the world. Is it related to demons? darkspawn? the black city? something completely different? We have no idea, and I hope we find out.
Because I haven't been keeping up with this thread, what's the current consensus on who the Elder One might be? An Old God? Corypheus/Another Magister? Some Uber Demon? Blinky?

I think red templar are seen as "Corrupted" (well at least I saw a bonus damage against "corrupted" creature on some videos)
Possible red lyrium is corrupted blue lyrium.
I tend to think red lyrium has something to do with blood.
Since lyrium and blood are the only fuel for big magic stuff , maybe someone had ,once upon a time , a "bright " idea and mixed the two to get a super battery for magic.
And things got out of hand .
Blue lyrium sings (probably like the Old Gods ) spirits and dwarves can hear it , blood magic is the only way to mind control .
So maybe this lyrium got a mind control effect .

Why choose one option when you can take all of the above?
Now, if I needed to make a properly dramatic theory for this all, that would take me a moment to put it all together.

The identity of the Elder One is certainly the Million dollar questions.
I have some hypothesis but can't be certain until the game is out.

ahh dont tease us share my friend lol
well most are just crazy ideas but..
1) Elder One is something far more powerful and more ancient from a Time before the Golden City was created and the Maker appeared
2) The Elder One is the True cause of the Golden City falling into Corruption and he was secretly imprisoned in the Golden City. He manipulated the Tevintor Magistors into the Golden City promising them the place and corrupted both the Magistors and turned the Golden City into the Black City after the Magistors freed him from his prison inside the Golden City. He has remained in the Black City ever since waiting, planning, and gathering his strength.
3) The Elder One could be a Tevintor Magistor either being one of the Magistors that brought the Blight to the world or is a Magistor not recorded in history because he/she never returned with the Magistors that brought the Blight and remained in the Black City where he discovered a Ancient Secret.
4) A Old God either one of the known, forgotten by history, or not recorded in history that is trapped or sealed away into the Fade.
5) A Ancient Demon.
but as of now my hypothesis leans more towards number 2 being that the Elder One is the True cause behing the corruption of the Magistors and the Golden City.

Maybe something from beyond the fade? As in not a demon, not abomination or human. Justice in awakening talked about such a place, I've always wondered what might be in there.

Though if #2 is the right hypothesis I pray for the ability to enter the Golden/Black City as a fully developed expansion pack if DA3 is good enough to earn a Expansion pack while having the ability to rebuilt lost towns and cities from the Main game. Along with new World Map added being the Fade where the Inquisition will meet some interesting characters, new companions, and learn more about life in the Fade as the Inquisition push forward to the Black City to put a end to the threat for good.
Of course the Inquisitor will still be required to help settle matters in Thedas, push back the new enemies, and help with reconstruction of lost towns and cities. Basically a lot of work due to the world now rebuilding itself after events of DAI.
