Yeah unless it turns out corypheus is the main bad (which would be lame) i can't see why a tainted creature would just work with a untainted.

Also i'm kinda under the mindset that maybe the Formless One is the Elder One. so maybe the only reason he is called the Formless One is because on thedas he has no form and that's what we are seeing.

How does one shapeshift? Wasn't said that you need to study a creature's soul? Since alot of people keep talking about corypheus,  would it be possible the zombie dragon we see is his attempt at shifting into a dragon?

If you look closely the dragon does have have a weird blighted look. Also others pointed out how it has black metal merged to it. Hopefully he doesn't have the soul of Dumat.

If a Blighted creature is helping the EO then I just can't see Flemeth being behind this. Morrigan is helping the inquisitor and no matter how much she's advanced it was Flemeth that raised her to be the way she is.

Alright after a quick check through the wiki, the thread, and general demonology here's what ive compiled

The formless one is one of the forbidden ones, and is the leader. He along with his fellows taught mortals blood magic(the general application the other spells are mortal made). Now this being always craved more power but with 3 "siblings" thats difficult so for millenium he built up power. His first plan to gain more power was the golden city that failed and had the drawback of severly depowering him. 1100 years later after recovering and losing 2 of his siblings due to the warden and hawke and ishmael being MIA he made his plan to obtain godhood he convinces the rogue tevinter faction;the venatori into helping him gain more power so he can rip the veil, making his ascension easier.

Now how he does this is by mana burn.(if you played magic the gathering pre 2009 its basically a stockpile of mana(power-source) thats not used that deal x damage for its not use) now this acculation of fade energy coupled with centuries of death weakened the veil with enough force to devastate the world ,creating the breach and multiple tears.

Discuss my friends

I always thought it was related to ease of Willpower n the Fade. Somehow Morrigan and Flemeth find it just as easy in the real world.

Then again, all magic is about willing things into being. This is just some other version of it. All hedge mages come up with weird ways of flexing their wills. The reason we don't see a lot of it is because most mages are schooled to hone their spells in the Circle tradition, with recognizable/standard magics. With all of that schooling, they've closed their minds to what else is possible.

It looks like an untainted old god to me but like the rest of this thread its pure speculation...

true makes me wonder if hedge magi if they live long enough are stronger than circle magi just cause of their unpredictablity and generally unique style

They probably could grow to be, but then others would be confused and one trick ponies.. like they stumbled on one strange power accidentally and never did more than that. Like Cole.

Yeah, kinda like the Mad Hermit. Even Morrigan commented that he must've been a powerful mage in his youth

possibly but hawke is a possble variant of hedge magi imo (the way he does circle styled spell cone of cold, firestorm and his uncanny luck) just never gained his "trick" food for thought

Well his Dad was a Circle mage, and taught Hawke and Bethany pretty extensively it seems. They're not like true Hedge mages, with bizarre abilities. But they kind of had the best of both worlds. Good schooling, but freedom.. and they  seem more powerful than usual, even using standard magic.

edit: Morrigan really had the best of both worlds. She's a hedge mage, but Flemeth taught her everything else well too.

Hmm I wonder do you think the qunari inquisitor might be a hedge mage? Well considering how they changed the magic skills that might be the case with characters like solas with him being a rift mage.

I think the only way they could do it justice if it was a game with no classes and you got to build your own spell combinations. Like some Ultima games.

never played it but i guess its like blood magic....

Wait what if the elder one's a hedge magi, bear with me now

Hedge magi gain random skills right? What if he gained a more extreme version of cole's but not blood magic based. He has the the power of making himself pure entropy(his gas form) and the power of shapeshifting with the right parameters. Now imagine his power one day just backfires and he becomes a spirit of x emotion/aspect slowly forgetting he's a mage but now thinks he's a demon determined to attain godhood for whatever reason possibly due his mortal side showing.

What if the Elder One is Bann Conobar, Flemeth's Husband?  Who Flemth imprisoned in the the Fade after he murdered Osen and is now returning.  And Flemeth is working in the background against him.

You're thinking of elgar'nan he is the god of Vengence and is the All-father of the Elven Pantheon. the Sun is his father and he struck the sun down when it scorched the earth.

I just don't think they are going to use something they have already used. I.E the Old Gods, even if its a Untainted one i just don't think we will see one this game, maybe one down the line, but i just can't see it in Inquisition.

That would be a nice side quest. Going to his ruined castle and seeing/fighting his abomination/ wraith.

As for the elven gods making an appearance? Why not? If old gods can break free from their prisons. Then why couldn't one of their gods try? Though I don't think we'll ever know who that green lady is.

That and I really need to stop thinking elven gods = benevolent.

well if one is exposed to a morally grey religion with a mediocre god... and with the elven gods where they have clear moral paths its easy to assume benelvelance

I wouldn't say the elven gods had any clear moral paths. They're mostly concerned with stewardship and teaching how to harness the earth. God of crafts, Goddess of the Hearth, Goddess of the Hunt. They taught primitive people how to make rope, build fires, hunt appropriately, etc.. They never were all seeing/all powerful beings who controlled every aspect of behavior.
