Let's just say that the book talks about how the structure of the Fade is more chaotic the closer you get to the Black City.
The same Black City that is supposedly equidistant from every other point in the Fade, and therefore impossible to get any closer to under ordinary circumstances.
This implies that these are extraordinary circumstances in which it is possible to get closer to the Black City.
Are there actually pictures of the Black City itself close up or within it?
i didnt buy it lol cant til the 18th of november lolWell, make doooo....PM
It's not evil for the sake of being evil. its a ideological difference. There is no way a god would have the same mind set of a mortal, same way i wouldn't have the same mind set of someone who was born in a different culture and raised to think those things are right.
Fen'Harel, Dumat, Formless One, Maybe even Corypheus mindset would so different than our own that right and wrong wouldn't matter in the conversation.
Fen'Harel didn't think he was doing wrong when he shot the slow arrow and let the town die but still killed the great beast.
We don't know Dumat was trying to be evil when he taught the Magisters that Mortals can be fuel for magic.
Only demons are reflections of thedas, these gods wouldn't be, so how can you expect them to think like you? When you go on vacation to a very distant culture do you expect it to have your feelings on morality? Law? It is a different culture created differently than our own, and therefore would turn out different.
What a god might think is a wonderful well thought out joke could be a dead kid to us.
Evil and Good is boring, Like Skyrim, fun game, main story was garbage because all you were was the HERO and all you had to do was kill the EVIL VILLAIN, who didn't even pretend like he wasn't evil even though he is a dragon and in reality his mind set of the world would be incredibly different from our own, like if there was a very intelligent cat. (btw imo Fallout series much better games with a much better morality system and people who were actually interesting. I would recommend it to everyone.)

There are pictures of the Black City at various distances, but I don't think any were inside.
Going back to an older idea. I recently played DA2 and watched Meredith going rather crazy and Paranoid about all Mages. Then I looked at Loghain's paranoia towards Orlais. I like to think the Elder One fed on both their fears and paranoias, and Red Lyrium is simply a physical manifestation of this fear. While Loghian got a small dose from The Elder One through dreams while he slept, Mereideth got an Extreme dose via a physical Manifestation of the Elder One's power in the Form of Red Lyrium, hence the powers and then turning into a husk upon death.

that was one of my favorite theories.
I mean it is quite weird how Loghain screams and yells, demanding war and that he has to kill his King. even what he says to the landsmeet about how we are Orlesian dogs and he wouldn't let them walk back into his country, even though our character or the Bann's have had no contact with orlesians. But after the outcome, he becomes mellow and even as a companion, he didn't have that same fire or paranoia, Hell he was sent to the Orlesian warden's even.
Dark side of maker corrupted by Tevinter magisters sleeping for a long time and awaken by someone, even Tevinter Magisters which could try to capture Golden - now - Black city in fade. Also maybe Corypheus or some others of the first Tevinter magisters could be in play...

To me that's an indication that the Black City isn't likely to be a place the Inquisitor gets to visit. It was mentioned that the Black City is equidistant to all points of the Fade, yet the artbook depicts it at various distances - well Bioware hasn't been very strict with the facts laid out by DA's lore, and this could just be one of them.
I'm not convinced the Black City will feature for real in DAI, though of course I could be wrong.

I see that as either us knocking away the Elder One's Influence by beating up Loghain in the Duel. Since it wasn't an extreme dose like what Meredeth revived. Or The Elder One simply pulled his influence away seeing how Loghian served his purpose in dividing the nation. He probably thought it wouldn't matter at this point if Ferelden united.
Sorry that this is kind of off topic. But does anyone know in the lore how the old gods ended up buried way under Thedas?

The Chantry says it was The Maker. Punishing them for tricking the world to worship them....But I don't know about any other points of view..

Some of us believe the Old Gods are the Forgotten Ones, and it was the God Fen'Harel who locked them away.
The Creators home and prison was a Eternal City within the fade.
While the Forgotten One's were locked away in "The Abyss" some of us think that is a literal meaning for deep within the ground. and the Old Gods are trapped in prisons underground. so that's what some of us think.

Yeah. maybe he can't exactly control us or influence us while people are awake and that's why he needs red lyrium since its a direct connection to the fade and so he can directly influence people.

So basically the Creators are the Taint and the Forgotten Ones are the Old Dragon Gods and the Darkspawn are actually a continuation of the war between the two, with the Taint attempting to destroy its age-old opponents.

we've talked about that. but we haven't exactly agreed on it. but it wouldn't be that much of a stretch that Elgar'Nan the All-Father and God of Vengeance became enraged and his anger turned the city black and he sent the taint to punish the people. He let his anger get the best of him before, almost killing the sun

I guess the issue is that these are all stories that contain vague fragments of the truth, if any at all (I'm assume they contain some because this is a deliberately constructed fictional setting, not a real-world one, and thus the possibility that myths contain elements of truth is almost 100% probable). Assuming it's true that Blood Magic was taught to the Magisters by Dumat (this would kind of make sense, since Reaver skills are forms of Blood Magic and that comes from ingesting dragon blood) and Avernus's research implies that the Taint is alien to blood magic, some kind of antithetical dualism between both would make sense.
Actually, that could explain how the elves were originally immortal, since darkspawn are preserved purely through the taint and have no need to consume food or water, it's possible the ancient elves' immortality was actually taint-based, or based on whatever it was that became the taint.

The only problem with the story about Dumat giving the Magisters Blood magic isn't the only legend.
One says' the Forbidden One's taught the first Magus Blood Magic.
And some Thedasian historians think Magister learned it from the Elves while they were conquering the Elven empire.
But lets say Dumat gave blood magic. why did he give it to the Magisters? the Elves had a much greater grasps of magic, and a lot more dreamers that could be used. But he gave it to the Humans who in turn destroyed the elves. But here is where my theory comes in, the Forgotten Ones were said to hurt the people{Elves) we don't know why but they would. so i think Dumat gave Blood Magic to the Magister as a weapon to destroy the people that have forgotten them, and to destroy the worship of the Creators.
But this is where Lore and Legend gets tricky. This Codex entry says the Forgotten Ones and the Creators were locked away at the time Arlathans fell.

I haven't thought about that. i haven't paid attention to their immortality but maybe it was a gift to the people. so this time he turned that gift into a curse, creating immortal cursed beings
I personally believe ancient elves practiced blood magic. Perhaps they didn't become as creative with it as Tevinters.
I always believe those dalish tattoo are what remained of the time when elves were immortal. They resemble magical runes to me and they are called "blood markings"
Also binding a spirit (consensually ala zathrian) can result in immortality
thought the same thing legit XDI personally believe ancient elves practiced blood magic. Perhaps they didn't become as creative with it as Tevinters.

Wow haha that moment when Endorphins are released due to to sufficent amounts
of Mind being blown. Damn, that's crazy, I dig this theory.
thought the same thing legit XD
A spirit/demons connects to the fade. Spirits and demons are immortal.
Blood Magic connects to the fade We've seen Blood mage's find ways to become immortal like.
Taint is from the fade. We know of some Darkspawn who are Immortal.

No, memory is the key.
The fade just seems to be able to grant immortality.
Also 3400 post, so that's awesome.
