There better be some sort of cliffhanger ending with a freed Old God or colossal dragon or something. Just Cory isn't enough. I'll be completely content with Coypheus as the game's primary antagonist assuming there's some resultant impact, a la a freed Old God. It would be incredibly anticlimactic and underwhelming for the entire game to be about killing some villain we've already dealt with in a DLC, because he's got a god complex (like that's never been done before). There needs to be some follow-up to his actions.

The entire game is about fixing unresolved issues of DA2, why is The Elder One being singled out? We already dealt with mages and Templars too.

The issues have nothing to do with it. It's the re-use of an underwhelming character, and the apparent motivation of wanting to become god of the "new world" is about as horribly cliche, bland, and uncreative as you can get. If the game ends with us killing Cory, and then..? It would feel like a dead end plot. If his actions in this game at least result in the release of an Old God or something along those lines, it will create a feeling of weight in his actions beyond, "Boo hoo, we're all alone and the Maker and Daddy Dumat don't exist, I'm gonna take over the world! *Ego* *God complex* *etc, etc."

DAO was about fighting an orcish horde and saving the nation from a dragon. Cliche isn't much to object to with the franchise.

I hardly see how him awakening an ancient evil at the end will improve that situation, either.

Ancient evils are right up there with becoming god on the trope-o-meter.

I'm going dark.  I get the game in T-minus 2 1/2 hours.  Going to be playing, but just wanted to say this has been a great thread.  I've enjoyed all the theories and discussions.  Its helped with the wait.  Hope you all enjoy the game when you get it.  And maybe I'll see you on after we play so we can discuss our thoughts on the plot and possible theories for the next game

People were right that Fen'Harel was behind everything, considering that's who Solas is. Seems Flemeth may also be one of the elven gods.

 

In other news, Corypheus mentions having walked the halls of the Golden City. I hope to hear more about what's supposed to live there soon.

I wouldnt say it was Fen'Harel that was behind everything but Mythal...It seems Fen'Harel was only awakened recently since he couldnt stop Cory from taking the orb

Well...He said he was too weak to unlock it. I guess its still a bit of a grey area to whether Cory came looking for it and forcefully took it or whether Solas went out and gave it to Cory. I was suprised that Cory doesnt say anything to Solas when they met in person.

 

Im just still wondering whether Flemeth/Mythal gave her life essence/soul to Solas and permanently died

Solas was not the Fen'Harel i expected but i guess it was the legend, same with flemeth being mythal, But there at the end did Flemeth transfer over into him, Give him her power or what?

 

And what do you guy's think they were unlocking? it looked like an eluvian and Morrigan showed us when Kieran ran away that the Eluvians can go anywhere.

 

One more thing. Did anyone notice what iron bull said when you ask him about his race? He talks about the kossith and how that's what they were called before they needed the Qun and how they had to leave their homeland, and after you kill your first dragon he says that they need the Qun otherwise they become like beasts. So i think the Qunari were forced out of their homeland and are more of refugees than they are straight up conquerors. so maybe that Qunari war will have a twist of a Kossith war machine bringing down their neck.
