Yeah, I meant the city itself. And again, it was a long time ago. They magisters may not have actually done it, or not on their own.

Also, we have a precedent for throwing an entire physical location into the Fade, with people still in it. It wasn't that hard.

It was only the spiritual reflection of Blackmarsh that was thrown and locked into the Fade. The city itself remained in the real world, as is evidenced by the ruins.

I know what the verse says. But Arlathan was in a forest outside of Tevinter, nowhere near where DAI takes place. So, again, I'm saying that I don't think that this floating island thing is indeed Arlathan.

well it was more in Antiva, but that's semantics. but we also see Morrigan come out of an Eluvian so we really don't know where they might be

thats not what i asked. the concept art is literally called arlathans. now does it look like any other world or universe? no? then shouldn't we just use occams razor?

Take into account that:

  1. A different world doesn't have to look different from the "real" world, especially if we're visiting a piece of it that used to be part of the latter.
  2. That cannot be Arlathan AND be in Thedas. If Arlathan is still in Thedas, then it is very, very deep underground.

Not quite. The Blackmarsh was only done in spirit, not physical body. The realm of the Baroness was patterned after its real world counterpart, but it wasn't the actual town that was taken to the Fade, just the souls of the people who tried to kill her.

It was only the spiritual reflection of Blackmarsh that was thrown and locked into the Fade. The city itself remained in the real world, as is evidenced by the ruins.

Point granted, but the theory is still there. The magisters also succeed on a much larger scale. Now, it was really expensive for them, and it went badly (for reasons we know little about) but we do know the elves of Arlathan could do things not even the magisters could dream of.

It may very well be that the other part of the myth is right: the magisters were kicked out of the Fade by someone who knew a lot more about it.

hmm but that elf in the EoT trailers the elf was summoning something in a jungle like area so it may be arlathan

Well, for me that means that either that's not Arlathan, or Arlathan is most certainly not underground.

Actually it can completely be arlathan since the art is called arlathan and we see an elf summoning something that seems to be in the same place. and we only have legend of tevinter magister causing the ground to open up and swallow arlathans, which can be exaggerated. and in no case has anytime some has stepped into a different world have they described it as seeming like the real world unless under the control of a demon, not in the eluvians or the fade.

Okay, I'm not sure I get you. You don't think Arlathan was sunk, but you don't think it's in a different world either. Where do you think it is, exactly?

Sunlight, on the other hand, is hard to come by. As are, by extension, plants. Especially tropical plants.

Just sayin'.

perhaps sheilded from plain sight and given the illusion that it sunk

As a quick recap, the only options I see are:

  1. Arlathan is underground, just as the leyend says. Impossible if the concept art is indeed Arlathan.
  2. Arlathan was moved to some other world, somehow. It could be the Fade or somewhere beyond the Eluvians.
  3. Arlathan sunk, but underwater, and was concealed somehow. That would explain the city emerging from a lake in the concept art.

I think its just in the plain world. i think it was destroyed. i just dont think any more special then that. elf elfy knife ears knew where a door was into arlathans or a part of the Elvhanen empire. and wants something from it and so he brings the door way out from underwater. not everything needs to be over complicated. it can just be a simple ruin in a simple place that people over look.

There is no proof of number 2. number 1 and number 3 are the only logical answer that we can go on with the facts. number 2 is speculation, while at least 1 and 3 are hearsay

Also not all of it has to be underwater. and lakes can appear over thousands of years. there didn't have to be a lake there when arlathan sank into the ground.

I subscribe to the storytelling school of the romantic, the grandiose, the fairy tale-like. No offense, but I would be greatly disappointed by an explanation so "simple" regarding something of this caliber  :D

Well, I stopped expecting the series to be realistic about the time I learned about the guys who went to Heaven and got cast out and turned into monsters. Knowing all of that was actually true confirmed it for me

Details. I think that's covered by my recap

And yeah, you're right, I don't have any solid proof. It's mostly a gut feeling based on the info we have and on something I think would be really interesting from a storytelling perspective.
