We have seen them both, Despair is the one with a lot teeth (it was in one of the trailers) and Fear is the one with the dreadlocks.
Oh yeah that skinny one who we've seen at every tear. but what about that 4 armed skinny guy. im curious what he is.

If the Elder One existed before the Veil and had a distinct persona at that time, then it can't be a Greater Pride or Arrogance demon because they are attributes that demons absorbed from mortals. The very fact that it is called the Elder One suggests that it is a much more complex entity than the demons we have encountered thus far. However, it could appear to onlookers to be arrogance personified rather than simply arrogant but that is not quite the same thing as saying it is an Arrogance demon.
In Masked Empire Ishmael seemed far more complex than a mere demon, which is presumably why he had a name. The Elder One is a further step beyond that. Presumably the sort of creature that mortals might well view as a god.

Greed? Hate? Glutton?

Yes and it has to be something Imshael didn't see coming. since when felassan told him this big chaos is coming he had no idea. So the elder one could probably classified like one of the forbidden one's but i really doubt he is one since we have already killed 2 and seen the other in a book.
Could be as some people the first nightmare or demon to have come into existence. And simply watched the mortal realm and felt it was the right time to strike upon the Dawn of the Dragon age and began plotting.
Because it does involve some minor spoilers from the novel Last Flight or rather it been mentioned in the last flight thread this will be in Spoiler tags.

It could have absorbed the arrogance after mortals were created. Demons were all spirits once, weren't they?
Or could be that The Elder One was once a spirit and like the devil rebelled against the Creators, Maker or what have you and became a demon. And like the Devil dragged a good chunk of spirits down with him becoming demons. Then he was locked away in the Black City leaving the demons to do what they haven been doing since. And then Tevintir entered the Black City, freeing The Elder One..but he isn't the cause for the taint. Perhaps the Taint was a security measure used to ensure The Elder One couldn't escape. And when the mages took the taint into themselves and back to the Mortal plane, Allowed to Elder One to go free. And has spent that time regaining his strength and upon the start of the Dragon Age began his plotting.

According to the Chantry, although the spirits themselves don't recall those things.

The Elder might have been lining up the pieces for his plotting long before that, like getting ride of the Griffons and get the Dales to fall etc.

While I wouldn't be surprised, I think that is stretching his reach just a bit too far.

Yeah i agree. i don't think he has caused almost every problem in the world.

I just think took out the things that might have been a threat to him, like the Dales example the elves was focused on rebuilding their culture and a long time ago elf had some really strong magic spells and such if the dales had continued like they did, they had might recreated some of that, it could have been a problem for him so he indirectly took them out by using both sides to cause the downfall or it simply happened and he took the opportunity to get rid of them when the war happened.
Same with the Griffons.

I don't think everything is connected though. i think some villains are being villains without the help of the elder one.

Well, Justice mentioned that whole thing too.
Demons and Spirits dedicate themselves to certain emotions. Theoretically they must have been unemotional Spirits beforehand.
Closet id believe the elder one has manipulated events is maybe the current civil wars and MT war but its a strech
I really hope that he's a badass villain that just want to dance on the ashes of Thedas........... and of course take over

Mmm I hope the Elder One has a good death, perhaps a tad bit ironic but it should be a serious and fairly somber affair.
After this was the clash between the PC and the antagonist, it should have gravity and weight, his destruction should be something...memorable.
I am reminded of the former Totenkop Captain dying via a silver tooth filling taken from a concentration camp prisoner.
._. Ironic and memorable.
3seems like he's getting off easy
Which one?
