There was the one in the main quest of Origins, but his fight was optional

Oh yeah, that guy. Huh. Completely forgot about him.

Does show how important he was though. A little speedbump to step over before we can get back to saving the world from the darkspawn.

Elder One is officially Lord Voldemort.

It's so obvious.

Thought popped in my head while eating a pie

All religions of thedas have a bit of truth each has a evil or neutral diety (fenharael, maker and the stone) maybe the elder one has nurtured these beliefs to some extent. While each faith has evolved in its own way but each fed the elder one's existence(almost like D&D gods who draw life from worship) now imagine this in reverse and instead of diaproving the maker or other gods maybe the elder one is our equalvelent of the devil

No more pie for me its pretty outlandish

Well we have connected enough between the elven faith and the chantry's belief that im pretty sure there is truth in it now. but i still think the elder one has had nothing to do with dwarves since they dont dream.

now they dont but what of the primval dwarves we lnow nothing about them so a somewhat reasonable thought would be they did at one point(conjecture i know hahaha)

I just think since we can base most of the chantry's faith and elven faith on things from the fade. i just think the dwarves faith in the ancestors and stone, are nothing. so the only thing we should look at is their legends, which we haven't heard anything of except stories of paragons.

very true... still pondering that the elder one is the devil of thedas (currently) if you wish to think of it judeo-christen like. I must have over analyzed our theories to come to this conclusion but DA is full of hyperbole and analogues

I'd expect the Elder one to be struck down by a seemingly random act that can be interpreted as the intervention of a Divine being.

He dismissed the existence of the Maker and then possibly gets killed by him.

Aka random lightning bolt or something.

The maker, if he exist, doesn't seem to care what happens in the DA world.

After all he killed everyone that didn't believe in him then the Dalish, Dwarfs and such wouldn't be able live in DA.

I really suspect that this is Morrigan's child.  Archdemon and the soul of an Ancient God.  That combo just screams "Future bad guy"

I'm a believer of wise old Paarthurnax

"What is better? To be born good or over come one's own evil nature?"

I like to think that OGB can be an optional companion in the future.

the kid is optional choice in DA:O, so I wouldn't count on it.

And what about all the people who didn't romance her or didn't do the dark ritual? how would a baby who wasn't conceived be this Elder one? also the child would be around 9 years old.

We don't actually know if Old Gods are evil, or even what they are at all. They might just be an extinct breed of dragons that is neither divine nor sentient, and those seven that survived were used in a spell not unlike the one that kept the bald elven keeper (I'm terrible with names today) alive for so long.

Personally i think the old gods are the Forgotten ones. so i don't think the baby would be evil or not.

After watching trailers, assume its a dragon.

Since DA:O with the old gods and in the books which, i got the chance to finally read all while in the hospital with no tv, Ever old god, in ever blight was a dragon. In the books its the same and ever reference i recall from the books the Elder One is hinted to also be a dragon, but we will have to wait until Nov 18. I guess.

So the big bad is Pride from Fullmetal Alchemist? That would mean the Elder One is not an elder at all.

And you also think the taint was a just punishment from the Maker, I suppose?

No. since i believe the eternal city and the golden city are the same place. and thats makes me question what did fen'harel actually imprison. i don't believe the maker is true as the chantry says. and i am a pro-chantry player so i'm not biased. i believe the taint is something more.

The taint is almost like a possession on its own and the magisters are like abominations but different. but it becomes a whole new species after a few generation. so no i don't think the magisters turned the city black and no i dont think the makers punished thedas.

Just because my opinion is different doesn't mean its cookie cutter. And i base my feelings about the forgotten ones and the old gods off of the legends. not by appearance

Cryp. did say the city was already black by the time they had arrived, which indicates that magisters didn't turn the city black, but something else did.

Which is first hand account and is more reliable than hearsay. yes he its probably a little crazy. but he obviously knew who he was. where he came from. and enough account of history to tell you that he and the other magister tainted dumat by going to his prison. so his memory wasn't lost.

Indeed he just seemed a bit confused which is understandably, he had just slept for hundreds of years.

Around 1300 years if I recall correctly. since he was around during the First Blight. And if the City was already tainted, It does ad to some possibility that the Black City was the Elder One's Prisons. The taint I think, was a security measure used to Keep the Elder One from escaping and once they opened the Black City, the Magisters took the taint into themselves, allowing The Elder One escaped and went dormant, gathering his strength for his coming...Then again I'm mostly promoting my theory here, so I could be totally wrong...

So than i guess we can just agree that it is fact the city was black when they arrived.

But how did it turn black? was it always black? And if the Eternal city and Golden city are the same was it black when Fan'Harel sealed whatever inside? or did he seal anything? i still think the cities are the same, since they both are cities in the fade which both faiths believe their gods live. but what is legend?
