Ahhh. So Elder ELDER One. The dawn of creation sort of Elder.

Well, there's a few reasons you call something special, like a God, "Old" or "Elder".

The first is if it relates to practices no longer in practice, or Gods that were once worshiped but are no longer, which are therefore old in that sense.

The second option is that the God is actually very ancient. Often both of these are true at once, but not necessarily.

By calling himself the Elder One, he's either saying that he used to be worshiped but that worship stopped at some point... Or that he's very old to the point where it's a defining trait.

Maybe some people use "old" and "elder" to make people think of Lovecraftian concepts, but Lovecraft knew what he was saying when he used those worlds and to emulate him without understanding is just wrong and incompetent.

If the Elder One hasn't been previously worshiped, then his title is probably defined by his age as one of his most significant qualities.

well the chantry says thedas was created with the veil. first the fade then the planet and with the planet came the veil to keep them separate so it could be there was never a time without the veil.

However given that dwarves weren't created by the Maker, it's very likely that the Chantry isn't right on the world creation account. It is possible that the two were one and the same before.

It only took Shepard's finger on the Kill switch for the Catalyst to Explain the Reapers.

Yeah, but look how that turned out. Almost everyone agrees that the reapers were much more interesting when their origin and goals were actually unknown.

Maybe the elder one is the old god baby. He went into the eluvian with morrigan, and we know from the masked empire that through the eluvian is a city all unto itself where time seems to have no meaning. What if whatever Morrigan was attempting failed and the child, grown rapidly inside the eluvian city is now an untainted old god seeking to bring about the destruction of things to bring the old gods to glory.

Probably completely incorrect, but a not so bad theory.

That theory will never happen as the old god baby is an optional choice and not everyone chose that option.

Hrm... That bit about the Dwarves is very odd, but World of Thedas is also kind of strange and has contradicted things that were said elsewhere. It has a timeline that puts the Old Gods in the Black City when they first started talking to the Tevinters, and that just doesn't sound right. It later says that the Tevinters once believed their Old Gods dwelled in the Golden City, even though they still wanted it invaded? Besides, that still contradicts what David Gaider said in that post about the origins of the belief in the Maker... Still, he did directly state that the Dwarves believe they were created by the Stone and didn't care if anything created the Stone itself.

Ah well. I digress.

Speaking of Reapers...

Which ending are you going to choose after you defeat the Elder One?

Blue Lyrium explosion? Red Lyrium explosion? Green Fade explosion?

What level of brutality should the The Elder One show off? Puppy kicking evil? Or capture your LI and make you choose them over some other important thing and by choosing the LI things get much harder for the Inquisition and hundreds if not thousands innocences die. And your LI gets survival guilt.

in exyreme cases id like for him to utterly decimate the inquisition, put half the party including the LI temporary out of commision and impale the inq's magical hand. But id settle for a "save your lover or have the elder one escape

Unless it's true. We have the perfect arrangement of Red, Blue, and Green magic energies for it.

Obviously the endings will be about creating/awakening a God, and deciding what sort of God it will be by attuning power to the appropriate power colour or something. The Elder One is a being who wanted this new God to be himself, but we'll be able to stop him and make it something different.

So, we either get Blue God, Red God, or Green God! All with different attitudes and effects on the world. Red Lyrium God would likely be Anti-Magic, Blue Lyrium God Pro-Magic, and Green Fade God would be the Elder One triumphant and a demon apocalypse of some sort!

Maybe we could even have RGB God if we do a compromise. Or maybe I'm pulling this all out of my ass at a moments fancy.

Weren't Flemeth's husbands/ex-boyfriends perfectly normal people?

Well, he already murdered a peace meeting. I think he'll manage to shove us into shitty situations just fine, and generally Demon Apocalypse everything.

Wizard of Oz hiding behind a curtain in the Emerald City at the end of the Yellow Brick Road.

Flemeth is one of the Wicked Witches, and Morrigan may also be one. Or she might be a good witch, "Andraste" or Green Fade Lady is the specific Good Witch who gives us free shoes/magic hands that let us go home.

Interpret that however you might like.

Why doesn't The Elder One smoke the Inquisition right out the gate? What keeps him from nuking Skyhold?

Obviously he's not actually omnipotent. There are limits on what he's either capable of or willing to do.

For all we know he wants the Inquisitor to live.

So he deems us useful for the time being before we have outlived our usefulness?

Possibly. But I mostly think he's just incapable of making things explode on a whim. There's probably more to it than that.

So it is safe to say blowing up the Peace conference took a lot of effort on his part?

I think that would be safe to say. Either that or he had agents placed within to do it for him.

i would assume tearing the viel left him overtaxed and needed rest. Like if you lift 250lb weight but didnt do it right
