We don't actually know that the Elder one has anything to do about the golden city and the Magister.

I never said we did, frankly.

I really doubt he has caused every problem in thedas.

Not necessarily, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had something to do with at least some of them. We are talking about someone who knows how to open a Breach, something unprecedented. We've only heard of stuff of that magnitude happening in a very ancient past: the time when the Veil didn't exist, the destruction of Arlathan (thrown into the Fade?), and the magisters being cast out of the Golden/Black City.

I am also willing to bet on the final battle taking place in the Fade, and if so, why not the Black City? Moreover, how many people do we know of who would be called the Elder One? We know he is not someone we have met before, so that leaves out Flemeth, Corypheus, Urthemiel, Gaxkang, and Xebenkeck (or however it was spelled). We know it's not Imshael, and demons in general seem to lack the capacity to do something like this. Old Gods are just so lazy and boring I would be incredibly disappointed.

So, based on TME, a dreamer from Arlathan (who may also be what people have come to know as Fen'Harel and/or the Maker) seems the best and most likely explanation to me.

stupid people are impressed by flashy lights and loud noises(assuming the breach makes sounds)

That genuinely made me laugh.

But its more destructive then just trying to impress people, because it doesn't seem like this demon horde are trying to oppress towns folk, they just seem to killing them(not the best way to get converts quickly) it seems like its more because he can, like yes he can be a god, but he already has this cult and has been manipulating things, but opening the veil? is that to make things more chaotic?

And if it is to make things more chaotic. is it just so the armies can even be more destroyed so his invasion(of demons) has an easier time? but we haven't really seen him occupying cities or towns or people. they just kill and hang out in that area.

So in my opinion i think he is just doing this because he can.

Maybe he is trying to destroy the Veil and return the world to how it initially was. It does fit Sandal's prophecy.

This could be for any number of reasons. Like, yes, godhood. Dreamers can manipulate the Fade, remember? If there was no Veil and the real world was like the Fade...

And the Elder One is almost certainly a dreamer, even if not from Arlathan. The only other option is Tevinter, though, and that's i) unlikely and ii) predictable.

Imshael clearly says he had no idea about the Breach in TME. He could be lying, of course, but why?

Thats what i mean, and that makes layers of its own, if he really is just opening the breach because he has a god complex and he can, it might really be fen'harel. just in my opinion. of course.

A guy who reportedly laughed hysterically after betraying his family and his new friends all at once? I can see what you mean.

Fen'harel has been known to be very good at turning people against each other, orchestrating events so he gets the best outcome, messing with mortal because he can. and is very full of himself, at least how some of the stories depict him.

So really what reason is there to open up the Veil when your cult already is able to get in with kings? whats the point of anything that's going on? is it just so a guy can get people to worship him? I think its just because he has a god complex and he can, i mean he is openly mocking you for your belief.

Fen'Harel has never had a point for anything he has done, he does things because he can.

Edit: better example. if you were a creature with so much power, with an ego the size of the sun, and all the power in the world, wouldn't you just destroy a continent because it would make you hysterical? Kings would kill someone slowly for entertainment.

I'm just saying we should think a bit out of the box about why he might be doing this.

Very interesting perspective. I just wanted to add that, if the Elder One is Fen'Harel, I don't think he is a god in the literal sense. Myths have a way of distorting reality. Remember how to the phrase "I'm not a god" Felassan answered "Let the stories decide that" or something along those lines? Well, I think that's quite enlightening.

But he was just a puppet for Thanos. The Elder One's Arrogance makes him the clear Big Bad of the Game. There can be lesser Bag guys who Answer to the Elder One, but I doubt they would dare question anything the Elder One wanted to do.

I'm not saying Ronan IS the big bad of Guardians.  I am saying I for some reason envisions the Elder One LOOKING like Ronan for some reason.

Ahh..okay I see what your saying. I guess if The Elder One has a mortal form he uses instead of his terrifying leviathan form, I can see that.

I stumbled across this little tidbit during my DAO re-play through.  Probably not much to it, but it does seem like it mirrors whats been talked about in DAI.......... coincidentally the book was written by the Senior Enchanter of Ostwick (where the human noble will be from)

"Strongest of all demons are those of pride.  These are the most feared creatures to loose upon the world: Masters of magic and in possession of vast intellect, they are the true schemers.  It is they who seek most strongly to possess mages, and will bring other demons across the Vein in numbers to achieve their own ends--although what that might be has never been discovered.  A greater pride demon, brought across the Veil, would threaten the entire world."

- From The Maker's First Children, by Bader, Senior Enchanter of Ostwick, 8:12 Blessed

I do hope the Elder One is a "bigger bad" than a pride demon (either one of the old gods, an eleven god, or an entirely different entity) - but just thought this was interesting to note -

Well our early theories were a greater pride demon... let go back if it is a aspect of pride it would explain his god complex. But i ask what is greater than pride. If one believes in catholism pride is one of there worst sins... so what is greater than one pride
