idk why people want old gods. Strictly a warden thing imo. To tespond to your idea, a creature born of tge fade with creativity.... my idea on that is that he was once mortal and when they passed their soul went to the fade to x destination(justice says that all mortals cross the fade when they die bit does not know where they go. Now if this soul spent x time in this place and slowly turned into a spirit, not seeing the maker(keeping BW's need to keep the maker ambiguous) somehow retained its memories and emotions became corrupted. Now logic says when gaining "immortality" in a place of dreams and unknown knowledge you can be come omnipotent(often confused with godhood). With this this being can spend millienium trying to escape and "enlighten" the mortals and try to rule them by showing off his power by controlling demons and their ilk aswell as creating a new realm where both his fade and mortal subjects inhabit the same world

I mean i don't believe that theory. i still have my money on Fen'Harel. but it is a curious thing.

What would a demon or spirit who just suddenly have creativity. Imagine what would happen to the fade.

well it would in theory lessen the demonic horde. They only possess to exp the mortal realm but if this spirit in my version creates areas that mimic the mortal realm and people the spirits could safly exp mortal pleasures and vices. But eventually this seemed boring to him and decieded to have the real thing.
Like if a teen watches a "adult" film they'd want to do the same with their girlfriend/boyfriend.

We know people can get trapped in the fade. we learn that during the harrowing. so i guess it could be possible someone becomes a spirit while in there.

And if its Dumat why now? if he has been in the fade for 1100 years why hasn't he tried to escape before hand?

Maybe he was weakened after being affected by the taint or maybe he has been trying to find out who tricked the magisters so they got tainted and got him tainted in return.

Alright but where was he hiding? the fade? how did he get there from being on Thedas? and is Dumat the only one who got away? if they all got away what happened to Urthemriel if you perform the Dark Ritual?

We know the Archdemons spoke to the Wardens in dreams so are Old Gods in a sense Dreamers since we know stories of Dreamers speaking to people within their dreams.

But as we know it Old Gods are strictly on Thedas. And here's a question if the Old Gods can travel the fade as we believe the Elder One can, than why did they never go to the City themselves? Maybe you have to be physically in the fade like the Magister's to go to the golden city.

Now to my crazy elf theory

Maybe if the Old Gods are the Forgotten One's they actually couldn't enter the fade for one reason or another, so they sent the magisters to do it for them.

We know Fen'Harel in legend sent the Gods where they couldn't fight. The creators in heaven and the Forgotten One's in the Abyss.

Maybe Fen'Harel was seen as both a creator and a Forgotten One because he could travel back and forth through the Veil. We know for fact The Mask of Fen'Harel can create tears in the Veil. Maybe he can too.

Maybe hiding in human form among the mortals similar to Felmeth and maybe being tainted has cripple their powers somewhat and I get the feeling Urthemriel if you do the dark ritual will simple return to real world and become his old self again.

I get the feeling the old gods were the very first Dragons (and that grants them special powers) and maybe what the male dragons once look like a long time ago, before evolution changed them.

Maybe there is something in city a weapon they made long ago during the war and they kept it there where mortals wouldn't be able to get to it, but then things changed my guess Fen'Harel was the real one who taught the blood magic to the old magisters and lead them to the city in order to take away the defense the old gods had put up to keep the weapon and who ever went inside the city trapped, expect them, but it had a terrible side affect on mortals and changed the original purpose of it.

My guess underground getting into the fade is harder because of the lyrium or it simple because they got trapped in a magical dreamless sleep so they couldn't wake from and that caused them to be powerless.

I get the feeling Fen'Harel has caused problems in Thedas for very long time and just for fun. Maybe he likes creating chaos like the Joker.

also you see this in tv shows a lot where something that seems like regular dialogue keeps popping up and its all hints for the final.

So thats why i think Fen'Harel is going to pop up in a game. They have spoken about him so much.

Agreed, it would also be nice to talk to an uncorrupt old god to find out if they are so evil as the Chantry says they are or they more then that.

For a moment lets say if you become a archedemon, you no longer have any connections to Old Gods.

Do you think the Old Gods are aware? or maybe staying silent in fear of the taint finding them? or doesn't even care about Human's and Elves and are just now singing exclusively to Darkspawn.

Or maybe they are just in a coma, with no perception of the world.

What would it be like if one woke up untainted. what powers come from the Taint and which do they naturally have?

I think they lose themselves similar to when humans, elves and other races being corrupted by the taint and they probably can't remember who they are any more. No idea if they care about other races in DA, but they seem to not want to be forgotten (assuming they are the forgotten ones) and I get the feeling it's not actually them who are singing the red lyrium sings too so maybe it's something else that sings to the Darkspawn.

I think they sealed in a sleep and dreamless sleep or it else it seems odd they can't escaped into the fade by their own power.

No idea on that one, but it would be a sight to be seen.

I like the think of the Elder One as the analog for Lucifer.  One of the Maker's first creations eventually corrupted by pride (creating the first pride demon, hence why they are at the top of the demon hierarcy) And bent on the destruction and eventual rule of the mortal realm.  I also like to think that he was the one who told the Tevinter Mages how to enter the golden city, thereby corrupting it, taking the first step that ends with a full breach of the fade.  Think of it as Dragon Age's equivelant of the book of revelations in the christian bible.

Well, with all of this talk of Fen'Harel, I don't doubt that he'll be involved somehow.

But you can't just say "Fen'Harel" is what the Elder One is, because we don't really know what a Fen'Harel is.

We know he's tricky and clever, and quite capable of longterm planning. He usually takes both sides in any conflict which he is allowed to...

And who knows? Maybe the Elder One is just one persona he's thrown together, and he's also posing as Andraste and helping the Inquisitor along all at the same time.

Now, if I may get into some potential spoilers...

I think I might need to watch Dragon Age: Redemption, because I heard the Saarebas actually tries talking to Fen'Harel as if he's there when he opens a portal into the Fade.

Also, in the Masked Empire, the Elven Dreamer Felassan tries to tell something that someone, who was currently acting on various lessons she learned from stories of Fen'Harel, reminded him of something that was cut off when something happened to him. However, I sort of felt while reading that sentence that he was going to say that she reminded him of the guy he was speaking to. And who else would she remind him of but Fen'Harel himself?

So yeah, I think Fen'Harel is going to be involved quite heavily. Whatever the **** a Fen'Harel actually is.

Actually i have many times given why i think Fen'Harel is the Elder One. i just don't feel like writing it out again.

This is page 76. probably on at least 9 of the pages i point out things that give reason that it might be Fen'Harel. I have just wrote those reasons down so much i didn't want to rewrite something that people have already seen.

I mean i know for sure Monkey remembers our discussion on "creepy elf ****"

Agreed

So, you have any thoughts on what a "Fen'Harel" is?

People aren't even certain what Old Gods are, except that they seem to be male High Dragons more intelligent than a Mabari and can cast spells of some sort.

Grey Wardens have killed a bunch of these, and all we really know is that they can't possess things that already have souls. Or at least they can't do so readily.

Also, Tainted ones are called Archdemons, despite possibly having nothing to do with actual Demons. Not to mention we don't even know what a Flemeth is, as Morrigan has said she's, "no blood mage, no abomination. She's not even truly human!"

So. What does that even mean?

EDIT:

I'll probably go back to refresh my memory on that, but right now "Fen'Harel" is just a name with a set of possibly true legends to it.

I'm generally more interested in the "What" than the "Who". I know who Fen'Harel is, just as I know who Flemeth or the Old Gods are.

What I really want to know is what they are.

Well here's the thing. we probably aren't going to get some grand origin of the creators or the maker.

The old gods will probably get something dark, like "we came from soot and ash, burning with the rage of the sun wanting nothing but destruction blah blah blah"

But reason i think its Fen'Harel, is because we have seen stories where he put two people against each other so he can get the upper hand. and a story showing that he doesn't care when he completes the task, just that its completed.

We know he can work both sides like he did the Creators and the Forgotten Ones.

We know he had a mask (which could have been named after him or was actually his mask) which could tear holes in the fade.

Then we have felassan who gives so many stories to Briala about Fen'Harel and she finally follow Fen'Harel's plan of using two sides against each other, so of course Briala would remind Felassan of Fen'Harel. "She reminds me of..." i think its "you" and i think that you is Fen'Harel.

Again this is a much more summed up version of the theories i have refined in this thread.

Better question. did the Old Gods talk Tevinter into destroying the Elven empire because they worshiped the creators? or they forgot them?
