Oh i think when we talk in this forum we are mostly unbiased.  We aren't talking who is right so much as what is causing things during the war.

all right lets discuss; lets say x mage is a dreamer yes. Da2 says they are rare. But thats a vague numerical value at best. Now in the da comix a tevinter is a dreamer that uses great dragon blood to augment his "krueger" powers. Now if a dreamer can replicate this ritual but with more "practical" resources he could have done what the magisters of old did but ising his dreamer powers he attained his psuedo godhood, and delusions and possibly becoming a abomination in the process

But is he an "elder one" if he is so new?

And how many people read the comics and know of great dragons?

I think dreamers are going to be a big aspect of this story. but i don't think they are going to make a Mage the big bad. just becasue they want to again keep things ambiguous and if they show this evil mage it will again give fire to the people who think all mage's are evil.

Just like you think if the Elder One is a Elven god it would cause even more hate for elves just imagine if the Elder One is a Mage? I think dreamers are going to be important to the plot. just not that important.

And again i think we are really paying too much attention to that line.

We have heard MANY villains in many different mediums say "In here I'm you're god!" or "If you're gonna worship anyone worship me." i really think we are looking too deep into that small bit of a conversation we have no context of.

It could easily just be a mind game to try to psychologically **** with the inquisitor.

"Look at all I've done! destroyed your world. Killed your friends and family. If you beg for your life i might let you live." that's what it seems like to me. someone who is full of himself, and is incredibly power. but not intentionally being like. "I AM THE NEW GOD OF THE WORLD."

Very true my friend

I just don't think his motivations are to be worshiped. to conquer maybe. we know he wants to destroy the world of thedas. the Venatori even know that. but how could he be worshiped as a god if all the mortals are dead?

So i don't think that is his end goal at all. like he might enjoy it when people do it. like the same way we enjoy praise but its not our end goal.

Maybe removing the veil doesn't destroy the world as we think, maybe it just recreate the world to what it was before the veil and everyone had magic (Like Sandals prophecy says).

Hmm then perhaps we should move away from what he is for now and discuss his possible goals and motivation

Maybe the Maker and the Old God is one and he has just been messing with the world for the last thousand years maybe?  :P

Why would the Maker say that he doesn't exist?

I think it will be a violent transition. i don't think unmagical things can exist in a world of magic.or why would the elder one let the demons through and use them to kill people if he is just planning on removing the veil all together?

The ends justify the means. that could work

He needs the violence so the veil becomes thin is another reason he might be doing it.

But why does he need Orlais to be ready for his arrival? why is he arriving at all?

Not really. Not against a seemingly unconquerable foe.

If the veil get removed the demons and spirits can come in, it's like opening a door.

maybe there is a magical item in Orlais he needs in order to remove the Veil completely and in order to be worshiped he needs to be there physically that he can actively point out he is real and the maker isn't.

We don't know he wants to be worshiped. that's a big assumption. we are assuming he is looking to be a god because of one line with no context from a trailer and a cult he was manipulating.

That's not proof he is looking to be worshiped. Like i said to monkey. we have seen many villains say I'm your god. even though they aren't gods or are trying to be intimidating.

I think we are paying too much attention to one little thing.

Wouldn't be the first time an evil force manipulated a religion in fiction.

Yes but again do we have any proof he wants to be a god? You can say he dismisses the maker because he thinks himself above the maker. and i can say he is trying to destroy the inquisitors faith to weaken him

You can say he believes himself a god who demands to be worshiped and i can say he is boasting his power and attempting to intimidate

You can say he is using a fantical Cult of believers to make people worship him and i can say that the leader of the cult doesn't even think he is a god and the Elder One is most likely just using them as agents of chaos.

We both have snippets of evidence but no facts dismissing or confirming either,

We have no proof he is looking to godhood. its an assumption we are making, just like the assumption people made because Flemeth could turn into a dragon so she must be an Old God.

Did Dragon Andraste want to be a god or did it just enjoy being worshiped?

all true. After 80 pages of speculation i found that we have spent most of our time analyzing the elder one in a "literal" sense aswell from possible cultural origins. But we havent talked about what sort of magic he uses or what defines him aside from arrogance and "intended godhood". What we have is possibly bioware's best villian. The games theme is of faith so is it possible that he seeks to erode this universally. To polarize fans even more

It seems with all his dialogue and what we've heard from devs, he is trying to break the spirit of everyone, to kick them when they are down.

sounds like my girlfriend lol but really jokes aside. Why would he do this sure its a wanton display of power but reason? What is his Raison d'être,
