What if we're the Elder One?

^Now I will say that the Dalish guy in the trailer is more than likely a Dreamer, though I think he's one of the Elder One's top agents. He was slinging around some serious magic, enough to knock Morrigan and the Inquisitor on their asses. And that water spell almost looked like he was summoning something.

wait red lyrium... the primval thaig, what if its a senitent form of lyrium? We know red is anti-magic but what if its more?

I like where you are going with that. what is red lyrium? i mean it can turn the templar's into bizarre creatures, so it must have some magical attributes though, but it seems to be spreading like an infection, maybe red lyrium is from the fade itself and when the veil gets really thin, the red lyrium comes over.

@Kieran:  Chances are, I'm totally way off base... but why would it be boring?  There's no right or wrong answer, just curious.

Personally - I'd like it to be an ancient somniari to reveal that the leaders of ancient Arlathan were callous and cruel beings that enslaved anyone that they could (and make it a point to show that they didn't "become" that way - but were always like it).  I think it would be a much needed twist to the elves.  And that Tevinter threw them down in a rebellion.

My vote? That giantic and grotesque thing from the end of the last trailer. It has to be it, we never saw anything like that in the series before.

Oh yeah, Red lyrium is without a doubt something that is semi sentient. A lot of the Veil tears that we have seen have red lyrium creeping all over the place. I wonder if red lyrium can either help thin the Veil or it grows quickly in response to a thinned Veil, gaining sustenance from the energies leaking out from the Fade.

Is red lyrium "anti-magic" or does red lyrium "feast off magic"?  Not necessarily the same thing.  It would explain - as many have suggested - why it grows and responds to heavily magical areas.

But - I honestly would prefer red lyrium to actually be a "natural" quality of lyrium to - as Eluvianus Rex suggested - respond to oversaturation of mana and preserve the material world.

If exposure to blue lyrium has caused dwarves to loose magic - what would exposure to red lyrium do I wonder.

I must have dwarven mages.

Oh i wasn't being critical, i am not so interested in ancient dreamers, they just dont seem that threatening, i mean i would love to see a possessed dreamer, like if Fen'Harel possessed Felassan or something. but its just my opinion that i would be bored with his character.

Again, i'm not criticizing your theory, i have said some pretty hair brain theories so im not one to judge, just in my opinion of my own feelings i hope its something else.

maybe its literally the true power where magi get magic but in non-magi it does that

I couldn't find a pic from the trailer but didn't it look like this place where the elf was using magic to summon something from the water?

As I've stated before, I like to think that the High Dragon that live in out world are smart enough to recognize that this threat affects them as well.

Would be crazy if you get to command dragons in the final battle, but what if you kill to many of them? Your inquisition weakens.

I very much doubt that theory. I prefer a totally separate entity.

I'm trying not to obsess over that one line from one of the devs that the best villains are ones you can relate to.  I really hope it's not the inquisitor, and don't think it is, because otherwise, why would he be telling Inq that he was a mistake?  Really creepy.

i consider my first love a mistake lmfao. But really though it could that the inq was supposed to die but came back or he was a experiment that went wrong

Very true but many of our theories are taking some leaps. including my own, im just saying we should all remember we have no real proof of anything, all we know for sure is the elder one caused the breach, the elf and the undead dragon could be two separate vilians that could be completely unrelated to eachother.

Here's my take on things:

(1) The Elder One is some form of ascended human or elf who transformed themselves into a higher-order being by use of magic related to the Old Gods. Maybe he's an Old God child like Morrigan's boy if you did the ritual in DAO.

(2) The Elder One and Flemeth are of the same kind. He is the one Flemeth refers to when she says she wanted to remain observed, as her answer to Hawke's question why she chose a piece of jewelry to travel. I conclude that they are opponents.

(3) The Elder One's origin is a mystery so far, but his will be a story we can relate to one way or the other when we find out. Whether he was always "evil" or became that way through some event, and whatever he is how, it all started at a human level, possibly very long ago.

here's my crazy out there weird thought :

Imshael is a spirit of choice , or so he says...So what if Imshael is the one who gives the Inq the green hand ...what a choice to give to someone, will you lead them or let them fall?

no idea who the elder one is...i hope it's not cory or another tevinter magister. Ancient Elven dreamer or very old demon/spirit seem most likely.

@Ieldra:  I'm curious - what would you think about what I wrote about "The Herald of Andraste"?

As one of those who is against religious connotations to your Inquisitor - would "Andraste the Dreamer" who alters reality "just enough" to give the Inquisitor a chance of beating The Elder One be an apt explanation?  Making the Inquisitor "Herald of Andraste the Mage Dreamer" instead of "Herald of Andraste the Prophet".

Of course - who knows if this has any basis in game fact - I'm just more curious to know if this would have worked for those who are against religious reference for their character.

That would be acceptable, though I generally prefer not to be anyone's herald. I'd rather act in my own name. I'm fine with duties and obligations and I'll do my best for those I'm responsible for (at least with my main Inquisitor), but I resent anything that smells of subservience, and I'm wary of any power I've been given by someone rather than having acquired it on my own. I'll deal with that within the story though and hope the game lets me roleplay that.

And BTW, I like your suggestion about the Elder One being a remnant of "Arlathan the Evil Empire". I would *really* like such a twist to the history of the elves, and TME already suggests that the old elven empire was just as oppressive to its minorities as Orlais is.
