I know this is being discussed all over the forums at the moment, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is deleted by moderators simply sick of the topic.

A lot of people are upset about the PC UI and having only "8 abilities", when in reality there are 32 for a squad which is quite a lot to work with and will promote party cohesion.

I had an idea, which is probably 6 months too late to implement, but in the screenshot of the PC UI, as seen below, there is a huge empty space on the right hand side of the screen. Would it at all be possible to "toggle" our companions abilities to appear vertically there?

This way, visually, you would be able to see the huge amount of abilities available to the party at any one time, and if people did/didn't like it they could simply "toggle" them being there on and off. To make it simpler, clicking one of these abilities would simply auto swap you to that character so you could cast the spell/ability from their perspective.

Just a thought I had, id enjoy hearing what you guys had to think.

I don't want to see everyone else's abilities on my character's screen.

I just want access to all of my abilities. One does not replace the other.

Well given what they have said and what we have seen, it looks like you probably will have access to all your abilities. With a huge addition of passives and upgrades you will most likely end up with only 8 active abilities.

I don't wan't things obstructing my view of the beautiful world that Bioware created. I actually may play with a Dualshock 4 controller on my PC simply because I enjoy non-distracting UIs.

???

don't DA Uis usually have a toggle where you can turn it off? I remember losing the UI by accident.

I find that extremely hard to believe. There's no reason to place an arbitrary limit on it if that limit is meaningless. They're limiting it to 8 because there's more than 8, and they want you to choose your 8.

Yeah V. Though who knows if it will still be there. It might have been an artifact of the engine.

That's why I suggested it be an optional function, you could turn it off and on depending what what you were after.

There will be definitely be more than 8 abilities available, but lets look at it. We have been told that its a soft level cap like DA2 but lets assume completionist gets you around 25 again (same as origins and DA2). You get 1 point each time you level (and a bonus if your human) so thats 8 abilities and 2 upgrades on each of those abilities. This is ignoring character passives we also know are in the game. So what I'm saying is that unless your deliberately building as many abilities as possible the limit probably wont be an issue.

Do you feel there will be two upgrades for every ability? I personally find that hard to believe, I would moreso expect 1. Though we don't know for sure.

I think we should still be allowed to use the non-upgraded version even after we've bought the upgrade.

Like in DA2, the upgraded Fireball was larger, so it was actually harder to use while avoiding Friendly Fire.  That meant that by upgrading Fireball we lost access to a more precise attack.  And that's silly.

So upgrades should not reduce the total number of abilities to which we have access.

It seems to depend on the tree, the inferno tree for instance

We know that squares are active and circles passive. From this it looks like maxing out the tree would take 13 points and give you 5 abilities. So your right, you might run into issues with overflow late game. The 2 specialization trees we can see have a greater passive/active ratio through

I haven't looked at any of the trees and I don't intend to before release (so as to know as little as possible--what matters most are the gameplay mechanics, not the specific spells/talents). However, the whole purpose of the limit is to make you choose, so it doesn't make sense for you to NOT have to choose.
