I am sure this has been brought up many, many times over the last 2 years, but the search function on the site is pretty broken and every link o Google that links to the Social Network site redirects to the main site.

Is there still, after 2 years, no Character or Savegame Editor for Mass Effect? I find that somewhat mindboggling. Last I heard, "Critical Mass", the achievement editor, was going to be developed into a savegame editor, but I've been unable to actually track down any further info on it.

Anyone kept track of this sorta thing?

There's barely a need for such a thing imo, especially for PC, since with a adding a single line to a .ini file you can open up the console and through commands can completely mod everything to your liking (though it won't effect choices).

I've been getting entirely mixed information on whether you can rename an ME1 Shepard for ME2, but if you cant even a simple automated hex edit to let you rename your character would be nice.

Consider me interested as well, although yes I believe firethorn is correct and that no one has completed anything past the achievement editor.

Handheld wishes to know why you would want to rename your shepard from the first game its supposed to be the same shepard and not shepard in disguise.  (Handheld made a funny hahaha)

Well, the biggest reason being that I played ME1 on the 360 as it was a 360 exclusive when it came out, but purchased ME2 for the PC as I prefer my PC given the option. So I went and tracked down saved games for ME1 that made the same decisions I had from my 360 playthroughs, as I didnt want to lose the hundreds of hours invested in the first game. It might be cosmetic, but I want to swap the names back to my Shepards'.

The console has some notable restrictions. For example, you cannot freely add any talent, nor can you remove them. The console just doesn't cut it when you want to go at your character with a screwdriver and a monkey wrench.

Using the console, you also have to play through an entire run to generate anything useful for ME2.

Not that it's a bad thing to do, but... I've already done 10 full runs on the 360. I just want to be able to hit the ground running when the game launches, and I don't really have the drive to replay the game another two times just to recreate just part of what I already did on the 360 :/

I contacted Ubermouser, who were working on turning the Critical Mass achievement editor into a full savegame editor, and he said that unfortunately, it's not coming.

His ability to do that hinged on his ability to decrypt / decompress the savegame files. He was unable to do so, as he was unable to crack the encryption (which looked like LZW, but either Bioware or another company made some modifications).

Baaaaaaw.
I don't know what makes me the most sad. The fact that Bioware put some kind of überprotection on the savegames, or the fact that Bioware supplied a weaksauce console. :crying:

Given the fact it has very easy cheat commands simply using the console, no one probably ever bothered with it.

What is it with this forum and people not reading the threads?

It's almost magical.

What annoys me the most is that some talents doesn't seem to be addable with the GiveBonusTalent command. Such as Assault Training, Fitness, and the armor talents. I went through the numbers and found a few unlisted talents that can be added (mostly specialization talents, such as Nemesis, Bastion, etc) but even though I went through over 150000 numbers, there are some that don't seem to be addable through that command.

I don't suppose anyone have found a way around that?

Uhh, I read your post and responded thusly. Since my post was in response to yours, the relevance of the rest of the thread was absolutely  zero.

When you post in a thread, it is generally assumed that you partake in a discussion. In this case, there is at least one post that is highly relevant to your response. It's not like it's a huge thread - it's not even multiple pages.

Sgt Reed officially likes Handheld.

K, that's enough talking like that for me. :P

Referring to yourself in third person is a telltale sign of mental illness. You know that, right? :P
