Will post specs below. Play games on a Gateway laptop. It has windows 7 home premium. Have been able to play DAO, DA2, an all Mass Effects. However, DA2 didnt work well and the graphics were horrible.

Mass Effect 3 had a shadowing issue an was sluggish. DAO, on higher quality(graphics) and texture was sluggish (same for Mass Effect 1 & 2). For the upcoming DAI, plan on upgrading laptop or getting a new one but dont know what upgrades or laptop to get within budget (at most spend $600). Any help or advice? Should I just get a ps4? How much will upgrades cost? How do I install upgrades?

Processor: Intel® Celeron® CPU B820 @ 1.70 GHz 1.70 GHz

Memory (RAM): 3.00 GB

System type: 64-bit Operating System

Graphics: Intel ® HD Graphics

Considering that your laptop has integrated graphics rather than a dedicated graphics card, you are probably going to have graphics issues since its my understanding that DA:I will be more graphically intensive since they switched to the Frostbite Engine. Celeron processors are designed around budget computing rather than powerful computing so that may be a bit of a choke point in your system as well (though probably not as much of one as the integrated graphics). Also, having only 3GB of RAM means you aren't really taking advantage of the 64-bit OS's addressing capabilities.

While you could likely place denser RAM in the slots on your laptop, I would kind of bet that you would run into some sort of 3 GB barrier issue due to the addressing of other hardware. You probably can't install a dedicated graphics card since I suspect no space considerations were made when the laptop was designed since it uses integrated graphics. Upgrading the processor on a laptop isn't really practical either (since you would probably need a new motherboard with a socket that is compatible with a more powerful processor).

You may want to look around on Newegg and other sites to see what type of power you can get out of a laptop that is on sale in that price range. I build my own towers for gaming and just use laptops for very limited purposes so I don't really know what is out there these days. If you can't find something that is in the recommended system requirements range for DA:I (I wouldn't base your choice off the minimum requirements since that would give you limited performance and will make your laptop obsolete much sooner) you probably will want to go with the PS4.

You could easily get a desktop PC that would play the game within your budget. I suspect a laptop as well, but I'm not a laptop.

Price is no reason at all to go with a console, except perhaps later in a console cycle.

I doubt you'd be able to upgrade that particular laptop adequately, however.

You could build a decent desktop (or buy one) that will run it. As others have said i highly doubt that that laptop will be able to run it with that integrated graphics card. While we don't have the official system requirements for inquisition yet a good benchmark would be look at battlefield 4 as they are both built on the same engine.

I'm sure you can run it on Low - Medium.

I'm going to... all I want is the story.

If your budget is $600, I strongly recommend buying a PS4 / Xbone. Being a PC player, I know that you cannot do justice to your desktop in just $600. So, if you just want to play games, buy the console. Way cheaper and much easier.

That's not true at all. An adequate gaming PC can absolutely be had for $600.

Here's some things people don't understand about building a good PC.   It doesn't have to be expensive.   2 year old hardware is still going to come together and outperform the 'next gen' consoles.    You don't need the top-of-the-line, just released hardware.

Get an i5 processor/mobo combo.   Pretty cheap.   Get an older video card with 4gb of vram.   A cheap hard drive, 8gb RAM....    You can use an HDTV as a monitor(PC monitors are probably the most expensive thing.    I use a 50" 1080p HDTV as my monitor and I would never go back to using a regular PC monitor again.

For $600-$800 bucks, you can EASILY buy the components to assemble a PC that will outperform the Xbone or PS4.

If you put in the extra money now though, for things like a LARGE case with lots of fans, nice sturdy PSU unit, it will make upgrading in the future much easier and cheaper too.
