I still haven't seen any long hair in this game yet.

They've probably been working on it.
I do know that really long hair is difficult to do because of animation and clipping issues. Personally, I have a feeling I'll be happy with the options we're given. I'd be happy with just a pony-tail or braid, to be honest, or a cool up-do.

Long hair is usually added in afterwards with mods. The devs aren't going to give hairstyles that are going to cause clipping issues and certainly aren't going to waste processing memory power to add in conformable hair.
When added afterwards with mods, people understand that the hair will clip through armor and such. Not everyone buying a vanilla game would accept that.

Long hair is a pain to animate properly. Especially without or only little errors. You won't see (official - not modded) long hair in a game like Sims either, usually. :\
Also, on a side note:
Ever tried close combat with long hair?
Or even 'just' whielding a staff as a mage?
Trust me. I've had my share of live action role plays with various weapons depending on which role I'd help out with. It. gets. in. the. way. If you are good / lucky / don't have to move around too much, you might manage to go by an hour without your hair getting snagged one war or another.
I think shoulder long and slightly longer hair should be included thought. It has been before :3

I have to agree.Compared to being limited to short hair (or a bun or ponytail), I don't care about clipping or movement. As long as it's there.
I don't agree with the statements about it being difficult to animate. I don't care about the physics or whatever of the hair. In older gen games developers didn't care about the physics either and I don't see why it is so important now. Just stick the hair to the back, done. I just believe BioWare makes to big of an issue out of clipping and animation of hair whereas they already have enough clipping going on with a lot of other stuff, so why draw the line with long hair?

That's fine with me.
My character will be the only one with beautiful blonde long hair. ![]()

I don't mind short hair at all since I always keep mine short and DA characters.

It's totally understandable that they may not be including long hair styles because of the clipping nightmare that goes along with it.
Besides, it's not practical. Who's going to go into battle wearing long flowing locks? This isn't Final Fantasy. Thank the Maker.

While I love the long-flowing-hair look, I actually really appreciate the realism of short hair here: long hair gets in yo face. While in combat, that could be a pretty horrible hazard (especially with fireballs flying around). Aveline at least had both a headband and a ponytail going on, but I still don't understand how Leliana dealt with that haircut -- too short to tie it back, but long enough to get all up in your eyes. That don't make a lick of sense, girl: put it in a bun or braid it or something.

I've been wondering about this too. I've noticed there's a lot of long hair in the multiplayer card art but I'm not sure how reflective that is to the in-game models. In the trailer we can see an elven mage, which means it should be either the Keeper or Arcane Warrior. They both have long hair in their card art:

But the elven mage in the trailer clearly has really short hair:

Maybe it's a temp model or something, though. While I'd like to have some longish options I'm okay with the length seen in the Gamescom demo, and as long as there are some nice up-dos I'll be happy.

Can't an elf get a haircut?!
I'm kidding.

Really? Because the oversized weapons remind me of final fantay (or any other jrpg). But yeah, fighting with a sword that is almost as big as the character is surely more realistic than fighting with long hair.

To be honest I get why years ago it couldnt be done. But as of now it seems a mystery to me as to why they cant do it. (I'm not a game designer so what the hell do I know right?) It's not like they would have to model individual strands. I think I could probably live with clipping issues.

The only kind of long hair we're likely to see will be tied back or braided.
