I still haven't seen any long hair in this game yet.

Oh well, you can get your cloak and robe caught up with pretty much the same results ^^.
Essentially attacking someone by hair is a form of cheapshot. It wouldn't really work in a fair fight the same way it won't work grabbing someone's clothing (pain isn't a factor, I prefer having pain from someone pulling my hair than a punch to the nose or example ^^). Also I can think of deadlier cheapshots ^^.
The most impractical and penalizing part of having long hair is obscuring your vision (especially if it's windy ^^), but a ponytail (or excessive sweating
) solves these problems.
True. That's why Edna Mode always said "No Capes!"
But hell, if I was fighting for my life, I wouldn't be fighting fair. I'd be using every cheap shot I could think of in order to survive. Pulling hair, pulling clothes, hitting below the belt, biting, scratching, you name it. I don't know if you've seen it but that was what I liked about the fight between Black Widow and possessed!Hawkeye in The Avengers - that was a no holds barred fight, featuring both hair pulling and biting. Basically, fighting fair is for training and exhibition bouts. In life or death combat, no holds barred.
Well, at least that's how my Inquisitors tend to think. ![]()

Alright so all characters must be bald and wearing full plate. ![]()
Anything else and it's just not functional. ![]()
I say it's time we take the character combat safety to it final extreme. What else can we make compulsory for characters based on combat functionality? There's got to be more.

I thought that's a fair fight. The unfair one is when you die before you see the other guy ^^

I'm just excited for the modders to release custom mods for immaculately coiffed Inquisitors who look like they must spend 1 hour every morning styling their hair with hairspray and a curling iron. Then people will say how much nicer it looks than the default styles, why couldn't BioWare have made hair like that, this intricate, maintenance heavy hair style has finally made the game more immersive for them. ![]()
I have to laugh whenever I see a red-carpet hairstyle on someone's DA/ME/Skyrim/whatever character, and people are complimenting them on how much more realistic it is.
Different strokes I guess.
Personally, I'd love to see some simple shoulder length styles, which is usually short enough to avoid most clipping anyway. But longer than that? Nah.

But since people brought up modding... There better be somebody who mods all of the spiders out of the game. In DA:O, there was a mod that turned them into bears, and in DA2 there was one that turned them into mabari. I'm hoping for something similar.

I could care less about realism. The real world is ugly enough. I just don't want to stare at hairstyles and outfits I seriously dislike for hours and days on end on my personal avatar. ![]()
I love compromise and working with others so we can all enjoy ourselves. If people want their ultra super gritty and dirty super real outfits and hairstyles I'm all for it, as long as I'm not being forced into their ideal as a result. Share and share alike. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one that learned that lesson when I was little.
Partly this is the only game I can afford for likely a year so is all I'll have, and I'm stuck on PS3 so... yeah kinda depressed. I'm stuck with the dumbed down graphics version of a gritty game wherein everything but the clothing options and avatar appearance are everything I want.
So I'm going to be stuck trying to get over not being happy in my personal avatar yet again... something I should be used to considering it's my real life nightmare as well...

Also, on a side note:
Ever tried close combat with long hair?
So... what's the scenario here? Worries about combat pragmatism, doesn't wear a helmet?

Will there be black hair other than a fade is a better question
This. You know there's going to at least be ponytails, buns, and shoulder length options, but are we going to be stuck with only one or two realistic black hairstyles? Vivienne purportedly being shaved bald under that headdress doesn't leave me much hope for black, female inquisitors.

What the brown hair in origins wasn't black enough for you?
Me either... 3 shades of red, 3 shades of blond (Considering the strawberry blond for both), two browns (letting the auburn count for brown and red), and white hair. No actual black hair, just a dark brown.

I'd also like to have long hair options, and wouldn't mind some clipping. It's not like I expect this game to have zero clipping otherwise or would care if it didn't. Let me make that choice for myself. I'm a big boy.

I personally don't care for the issue and am glad they are devoting their time elsewhere then figuring out how to make long hair work properly. I'm sure many people won't believe this but there are more important things then hair.

There are a lot of people missing the point, so it bears repeating. You don't have to make long hair work. Just put it in the game.
You say that, but I've seen the whinefests on this forum about "helmet hair" and about pretty much anywhere that clipping appears.
Suffice it to say, not everyone shares your opinion on the matter.

Yes. I think something should work before its put in the game and that the developers are the best judge of that.
I think we'll see long hair eventually, though not perhaps to waist length levels or anything like that. I'm fine with updos, though I do think it would be neat in certain cutscenes (like, bedroom scenes) to see the hair down.

Even if it looks absolutely horrible due to clipping?

And spears, don't forget the spears.
I was thinking how viable it would be to add the rest of the hair on the clothing. For example, picking long hair for your character could turn up in ponytail or some other style, but when we use casual wear, or armor that allows for it, to add the rest of the hair.
I'm not very familiar with the process of animation, but I wonder if this is a good idea.

The spears would be cool and definitely deserve their due, but my ability to fully immerse in my avatar wins out for me, even over such a noble and selfless goal, as looking out for the weapon that single handedly defines man's rise from lowly ape to the top of the food chain.
Not sure how well that'd work but I'm desperate will give anything a shot.

Yes. I'd like a Bioware poster to come in here and let us know why this can/can't be done.
Hair clipping is an issue and it makes the game look less polished, but honestly, if they released some DLC pack full of hairstyles that were long and caused clipping... would anyone care? So long as people know they're going to clip and choose the hairstyle anyways, then I think they'd be happy.
I can only hope they give some characters long hair when it makes sense (Lady of the Forest comes to mind) because I saw a horrible piece of Concept Art where Celene had short boy's hair. Utterly HORRIBLE for an empress; that is the one time I will hate short hair.
