You know back in basic the firing range instructor for our class gave us a gem to chew over while we were getting worked into shape.

"Only an idiot provokes an enemy they cannot hope to defeat."

I am reminded of this every time i think back to Anders.

While I doubt the game will get into it, I am going to be interested in the history of the war and how it progressed. Who supported the mages, the Templars, and how much damage was done to both sides.

Sadly, since the Templars can join the Inquisition, it seems there's no option to grind them to dust (or the reverse).

Oh well.

"Good" here means they are neither red Templars nor a member of the faction that follows Lambert. Something like Cassandra and Cullen's case.

Yes, there's a female Templar that works for the Inquisition.

I wonder if Bioware realizes the most extremist warhawks in the Templar-Mage War aren't in the Red Templars or Blood Mages but on the forums.

Where did he say that?

There's a screenshot of the timeline editor (that they make cutscenes with).  In it, Cullen is breaking up a fight between Angry Templar and Angry Mage.  In the exchange he says that "We" are not templars any more.  That suggests to me that not only Cullen, but many (or all) templars that join the Inquisition may have to officially renounce their templar associations in favor of loyalty to the Inquisitor.

And the only good mage is one who is locked away in a circle somewhere or in a grave.

There's a plan, we knock down the fourth wall, and get them all together in a room - mages, templars, people who like to argue about them in the forums. 25 minutes later the mages and templars have banded together in the face of a far greater threat to peace than the worst abomination or most homicidal templar.

I get the feeling I'm the most extremist warhawk of them all, I love magic.

No such thing as a "Good" Templar.

Uh, she defected from the order.

She'd be as much a "traitor" as Lambert.

Hopefully, Evangeline was at the peace summit.

Let's see...Evangeline, Cullen. Ser Thrask, Otto (a blind templar) and those who did not abuse their power. I'm pretty sure I want to recruit both good and sane mages and good templars into the Inquisition.

If you look in the Enemy of Thedas trailer, some of the inquisition troops are using Templar shields, so they might make up the majority of the inquisition troops, I mean i don't know how else the inquisition could get troops out of the blue.

I would theorise they may be the remainder templars from Kirkwall who listened to Cullen and stood down before Hawke, and then followed Cullen to the Inquisition.

Of course, that's sort of the irony Asunder alludes to. Templars are meant to be Pro-Mage rather than Anti-Mage and vice versa. Templars exist as the protectors of mages from both the public at large as well as demonic possession. Somewhere along the line, that got twisted to being about Templars being mage's jailers when it was really they were meant to be allies.

In a sick-sick sort of way, Tevinter is more in line with the way they were intended.

But in Tevinter they have forgotten that magic is meant to be used ethically too. Templars might have a job to keep mages from turning evil but that should be the job of everyone who is friends with someone in power.

At heart, the ideal Templar relationship is Alistair and Mage Warden or Mage Warden and Templar Carver.

The Tank and the Mage against all the world's evil, watching each other's backs and keeping the other from going too far.

In all honesty that's probably where most of the Anti Lambent templars would be from in my opinion. and since Cassandra recruited Cullen when he was still acting Commander in kirkwall he would still have a good few hundred alive from the incident under his command.

Yep locked away with autonomy. Things would have been so much different if Lambert was not overzealous as he was when he decided to disband the college of enchanters for proposing an idea which was pure tyranny. But I have seen you agree with tyranny many times so I suppose it doesn't matter.

And if he did, Cole will be subjected to the justice of the Inquisition.

This is very ironic.

I feel really awful but killing Anders because I'm 100% a Pro-Mage Terrorist Magneto.

I just don't roll with blowing up churches.

Killing him does not change the fact that its already done, same as Loghain. He is willing to redeem himself and he fights to save the mages. That's enough for me to spare him, but he is as guilty as ever and he better don't do such a thing again. Inquisition will show us how he turns out (I hope). Sparing Loghain was the right idea as we see him being good in Awakening.

When mage lovers say stuff like this, it only encourages my belief that Templars have the right of it.

Considering what Anders did, and most people only shake their finger at him. Yes, "interesting" to say the least.

So who's to say the Chantry has every "right" to leash the mages, and when someone retaliates it fingers shaking. Anders had every "right" to do it as he is by far the most tormented mage by chantry and its rules. Hate and oppress someone like that and they will explode in your face, quite literally in Anders' case. Cause and effect.

Also Magneto.
